The Bible is God’s revelation and it presents

all that we need to know about God at all times

in all places and all cultures. God knows how

to communicate and make himself

known. These readings are providential for

our time and era living among disease, riots,

lootings, death, killing, quarantine, economic

trials, and constant restrictions. There is no

evil that prevents God from loving or from us

being invited into the love of God. No matter what the circum-

stances of life might bring, God will always be faithful and ever

trustworthy. God remains constant and is always ready to aid and

assist us in our need. God’s love will never fail. God’s love is

always perfect and ever true!

Saint Paul reminds us to remain confident and cultivate that

awesome virtue of hope! No matter how much evil might enter into

our lives and our world, God’s grace is always bigger, mightier, and

more abundant. God will always be there to repair what has been

damaged. The key is to acknowledge what God has done and is able

to do. Left to ourselves, we can mess things up, but when we turn to

God and admit our great need for God, he can restore with that

unmerited gift of grace. That grace comes to us in the Scriptures, in

the sacraments and in our gathering as the church.

We need not be overwhelmed by the events of our times, but we do

need that constant relationship with God. In the midst of challenge,

God’s promise offers all that we need.

God bless you,

Father Michael Kaluza

Mary Queen of Peace

is thankful for the

everyday while he’s been

at our parish!

The Seven Sisters is a call to strengthen the Church by ensuring that a

Holy Hour is prayed each day of the week for the sole intention of a

specific priest or bishop—a “holy wasting” (cf. Mt. 26:10) or

lavishing o prayer for his deeper conformity to Christ.

End of Year Report 2019-2020

End of Year Report

Mary Queen of Peace Catholic School

From the Office of the Principal June 11, 2020

Dear MQP Families, Parishioners, and Friends,

What a year it has been! In August, our teachers, staff and students had the joy of moving into the new Parish Life Center. There are two beautiful preschool classrooms that are at full capacity, along with a large gathering space that our students and teachers often gather in for all-school assemblies, programs, and the Spelling Bee.

We are growing! Thank you for your word-of-mouth marketing. Enrollment for 2020-2021 is up 23% from last year at this time. We certainly did not anticipate ending the 2019-2020 school year with distance learning. MQP teachers and staff will continue to pray for each and every one of you over the summer months until we are back in the school building this fall. We have so much to be proud of and grateful for at our amazing parish school.

Peace, Mrs. Hamill

Curriculum and Instruction - Distance Learning Mary Queen of Peace Catholic School did not miss a step when we had to move to distance learning. Being ahead of many school districts with planning and preparation, teachers immediately worked together to create a distance learning plan in collaboration with the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis and ISD 728. Teachers, staff and the principal, Mrs. Hamill, worked around the clock to implement Seesaw and Zoom to ensure a smooth transition for all students, who all have very different situations. We surveyed parents in a timely manner to receive feedback of what was working well, and to determine the greatest areas for improvement, to make any necessary changes. Our teachers integrated Zoom in all grade levels, preschool-5th grade, keeping students connected to them and to each other. Lessons and activities were completed under the watchful eye of the teacher through Seesaw and Zoom. We would like to commend our families for also working around the clock to create a strong home and school partnership during this unprecedented time of COVID-19. We are delighted to share that we have been blessed to purchase new science and math curriculum for 2020-2021. Our teachers and staff will be working over the summer on professional development to create meaningful, hands-on differentiat-ed instructional lessons to meet the needs of all student learners. The Foss Science Curriculum and Math Expressions by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt have been carefully selected by the curriculum and instruction committee. Due to COVID-19, the NWEA Spring Test was put on hold. Our teachers and staff continued to work on professional development remotely with Tierney Brothers to identify and analyze areas of growth, and opportunities for student learning.

MQP and MNSAA Each year, schools that are part of the Minnesota Non-Public School Accrediting Association (MNSAA) are required to submit reports on the progress they made on their School Strategic Plan (SSP). This report provides MNSAA with the information needed to help us maintain our accreditation status and to keep us moving forward in our schools. Although this summary is a snapshot, I hope that the tremendous progress made this year and the efforts that we are putting in to create an excellent school for your children and parish families are evident. Our religious goals are sent to the Archdiocese in addition to them receiving a copy of our MNSAA report.

Financial Outlook

MQP Income MQP Expenses

As we complete our budget year on

June 30th, we are grateful for families

enrolling for the 2020-2021 school

year. The current enrollment in

2019-2020 was 46 students in K-5 and

44 preschool children. We are blessed

that our fundraising efforts helped us

to reach our financial goals, and

grateful for generous donors. The

subsidy this year has significantly

decreased due to an increase in

enrollment, tuition revenue, and the

fundraising initiatives. Thank you for

your generosity! In addition to the

fundraising efforts, MQP received

generous grants from The Aim Higher

Foundation, Catholic Community

Foundation, Two Eagles Foundation,

Schulze Family Foundation, and

Catholic Schools Center of Excellence

to support scholarships, marketing

and enrollment, academic excellence,

and our preschool program. The finan-

cial reporting below was taken from

the April 30, 2020 financial state-

ments. The income/expense does not

include the restricted accounts and

grant revenue this year to provide a

better understanding of the general

operations for 2019-2020.

New Playground We are pleased to share that we will complete the playground project this summer due to the Give to the Max funding in Novem-ber 2019. The playground project has been a fund-a-need for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years. This summer we will add new swings, equipment, and a balance beam for the preschool playground. A special thank you to the parish buildings and grounds committee for removing the old swing set.

Tuition and fees are a large part of our budget. Donations and general contributions that are made to the budget are being collected. Fundraising includes the School Marathon, Catholic Schools Raffle, MQP Gala, and other smaller fundraising events. Our parish generously supports our school through the parish investment of 35% of the Sunday offerings. We thank you for supporting our fundraising efforts and for your volunteer hours!

Operating expenses are for the building costs of the lights, heat, and custodian. The school program adds all the expenses from the salaries and benefits, textbooks, supplies, workbooks, technology, and all other classroom materials.

Administration is a grouping of costs for salaries, benefits, copiers and supplies, marketing, legal fees, background checks, etc.

Fundraising includes the costs for each of our fundraising events. We will evaluate the events with the School Advisory Council to see where we may need adjustments. SAC will provide recommendations at the monthly meetings. Parent feedback is always welcome and encouraged.

Education & Extra-Curricular Activities Last summer, Mrs. Johnsen was selected to participate in a six week summer course to become Orton-Gillingham certified. Student reading levels and academic engagement have increased from the fall to the spring during distance learning. A special thank you to Mrs. Krueger for leading such a beautiful Christmas Program! Our students also had the opportunity to participate in after school Choir, Chess Club, Buddy Boxes, and German. Ms. Drivas is retiring this year. MQP has been blessed and fortunate to have her dedication, hard work and love for our school for the last 18 years. We are grateful for Ms. Drivas and we are going to miss her very much. We are not officially saying good-bye, since we hope she will be coming back to visit us next fall. We wish her the very best in her retirement!

Ms. Kempinger will be working this summer to implement a student council for our 5th graders. We are extremely grateful for a generous grant from the Schulze Family Foundation to cover the entire expense for our 4th and 5th graders to attend Wolf Ridge Environmental Camp in October 2020. We are excited about the upcoming activities for the fall.

Technology is Important! Our students have the oppor-tunity to have 1:1 technology devices (iPads or Chromebooks) to integrate technology into the curriculum. We purchased an IXL license for all students to provide enrichment and additional supplemental curricu-lum in math and language arts. IXL is a standards-based person-alized learning platform to meet the needs of diverse learners.

In addition to IXL, PebbleGo, Seesaw, and Studies Weekly subscriptions have been purchased to integrate technol-ogy as a supplement to the primary curriculum and instruction.

Mission

Mary Queen of Peace

provides a Catholic educa-

tion rooted in the teachings

of Christ. Our school is an

inclusive community of

faith, warmth and friendli-

ness, guided by the core

values of respect, responsi-

bility and compassion,

which govern the conduct

of the members of our

community. We are a living

mission of the parish of

Mary Queen of Peace. We

value strong academic

achievement and work to

instill the five attitudes for

life-long success (St.

Thomas Aquinas):

• Discipline through

responsibility • Motivation through

ownership • Adaptability to an

ever-changing world • Curiosity to seek

knowledge • Ambition in service to

others

We Believe…

Celebration of Our Faith All parish and school staff come together to create a meaningful time of prayer and reflection for an awareness of our own unique talents, perspectives, and genuine love of our Catholic faith. Although many of our daily and weekly activities are just a small reflection of who we are as a Catholic school, it is important to share the information with our community. We pray before meetings, in the daily announcements, and have a weekly dedication to two families in our community. We also participate in many service projects, such as Feed My Starving Children and monthly CROSS food collections.

#MQPproud

Christ is the reason for our

school, the unseen but ever

present teacher in our

classrooms, the model of our

faculty, and the inspiration of

our students.

Safety & Security Due to COVID-19, our annual safety plan was modified and adapted to ensure best practices for our school. MQP has been working in collaboration and consultation with the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis to create a required safety play for the reopening of Mass and the school building. Safety is our priority. Parents have asked to know more about our practice drills and safety procedures. We are happy to report we participate in the mandated safety drills each year, including fire, tornado, lockdown, and bus safety drills. Each year, we also complete an evaluation for our parish kitchen and food service license.

Volunteers MQP is beyond blessed to have so many wonderful volunteers who are dedicat-ed, committed and love our school. A very special thank you Mr. and Mrs. Lucas who volunteer each week to support teachers and students. Mrs. Lucas manages our library database and her time each week in the library. Dr. Partoll and Mr. Hanauska have also given unconditional time and talent to teach German Club. Mrs. Stogsdill has so generously given her time to help in the school office. We are so grateful for the many volunteers, parishioners, alumni and friends who continue to support MQP. We would not do all that we do without your support.
