I hope you have enjoyed a good break with your families. I was interested to hear lots of stories on what various families did over the break as I visited the classrooms. It sounds like there was lots of travelling, cleaning and generally lot of fun. The cleaning aspect was the same for me. My wife had a very nice list ready for me, I think I would have completed 70% of it. The rest of the time was spent in the garden and catching up with friends for a drink (of coke!!!) Like every other term, this term promises to be a very busy one. Term Four is probably our busiest term on our calendar and one that will go by very quickly. I thank you in advance, for your support, patience and understanding in various activities and events throughout the term. The children will be very busy with their normal class programs, end of year assessments and preparing for the Christmas concert. It also marks a special time for our Year 6 class as they will be finishing their time at Mary’s Mount and prepare to move onto high school. Some main dates to keep in mind are: AGM -17 Nov, Art Show- 20 Nov, Carols Night - 4 Dec. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT On the last Friday of term three our staff attended a Professional Development day on Explicit Direct Instruction, this will be a new strategy that we will be introducing into our classrooms next year. Staff have, this year, visited a variety of schools and seen this strategy in action and some teachers have already started to experiment in their classes. The day was held at Good Shepherd, Lockridge. CANTEEN Can I please ask all our parents and grandparents within our school community to consider helping out in the canteen. ART CLASSES As mentioned in our last newsletter, Mrs Hull-Deane is on LSL. In Mrs Hull-Deane’s absence we had organized for Mrs Linda Charles to carry out the Art program, however, over the holidays I received a call from Linda to say that she has had some health issues and had been directed by her doctor to rest. Therefore, I would like to thank Mrs Michelle Retel for agreeing to take up this role for weeks 1-4. Welcome, Michelle! I would also like to wish Linda a speedy recovery. FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents

Welcome back to you all.

The rest of the time was spent in the garden and catching up with friends for a drink (of coke!!!)

Like every other term, this term promises to be a very busy one.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

On the last Friday of term three our staff attended a Professional Development day on Explicit Direct Instruction, this will be a new strategy that we will be introducing into our classrooms next year. Staff have, this year, visited a variety of schools and seen this strategy in action and some teachers have already started to experiment in their classes. The day was held at Good Shepherd, Lockridge.

CANTEEN

Can I please ask all our parents and grandparents within our school community to consider helping out in the canteen. The number of volunteers is low and last term we had to close down the canteen because of this. Please think about this and seriously consider helping out if you can.

ART CLASSES

As mentioned in our last newsletter, Mrs Hull-Deane is on LSL.

BUSY BEE

A reminder that on Saturday 31 October we have our Busy Bee here in the school grounds.

LONG SERVICE LEAVE

Please be aware that Mrs Jane Taylor will be out of the office next week as part of her LSL. Mrs Gabby Hoffmann will be in the office to replace Jane.

FAREWELL

It is with great sadness that we farewell Mrs. Debbie Cockman from our staff at the end of this year. Debbie has been at Mary’s Mount for 17 years and has given outstanding service to our school and community. On behalf of the school community I would like to thank Debbie for her service to Mary’s Mount and to also wish her a happy and healthy retirement with her husband, Steve. THANK YOU - P&F The school community thanks the P&F for the great purchase of two outdoor seating tables. The students love them. It will give the students a place to sit quietly with their friends during lunch, play board games or will also assist teachers when classes are working outdoors. It will also give our parents some more seating areas while they wait for their children.

CONGRATULATIONS

A big congratulations to Lily Boisvert for being awarded a film makers award for the film ‘One Time too Many’. The CauseFilm Festival is run in Sydney, NSW. It is an annual festival where filmmakers and charitable organisations can share their messages with the public through the art of film. The aim of the festival is to support charities, good causes and at the same time give filmmakers the opportunity to assist in promoting the charity or cause that they support. Lily chose the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, to support their anti bullying campaign.

The good news with all of this is that Lily recently was awarded “Best Film Junior Award” and received her award in the post last week! Lily was also the youngest entry in the awards.

On behalf of our school community I would like to congratulate Lily on her award. Well done, Lily!

THANK YOU!

We have once again received a kind donation from Dawson’s Forrestfield who have donated $50 worth of plants for the School Veggie Patch. Dawson’s provide this donation to us every term. From this we receive a variety of seedlings such as: tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, basil (both green and purple), cucumber, lettuce, spring onions and carrots . Many thanks to Dawson’s for their continued support of our veggie patch. It is very much appreciated by all. I would also like to thank Denise Goodall and Finette Macolino for the great work they continue to do in the garden area. CONDOLENCES

I would like to offer our school community’s condolences to Shirley Shaw on the passing of her brother. The funeral was held today, hence the canteen being closed for the day.

Sincerely Yours, Sandro Coniglio

True Leadership: Jesus said, “The Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem.” Jesus gives us a different model of leadership. Rather than seeking power, influence and wealth, he calls us to lead through humble service.

Almighty God,

You sent your son to serve.

Give us joy in serving others.

Amen

Family Time—The Servant Game

At your next family meal, no one is allowed to ask for anything or get it for themselves. Each person is to think about the needs of others and offer it to them!

Did You Know?

St John of Capistrano was the son of a German Knight who became a Franciscan. He was famous for preaching. At the age of 70, the Pope requested that he lead an army of 70,000 to defend Vienna against the Turks. He won a stunning victory at Belgrade.

First Eucharist

It was great to see many Year 4 students at Mass over the weekend receiving their First Eucharist certificate. What made it extra special was that many of them came in their beautiful dresses and dapper suites!

Father Suresh will hold on to the certificates for the next few weekends and hand them out to children as they attend.

Social Justice—Mini Fete

Attached to this week’s Newsletter is our flyer for our upcoming Annual Mini Fete. Our Mini Fete is the major fundraiser our students organise and run. It allows our students to be directly involved in raising money to help those that are less fortunate than ourselves.

Last term we received a call for help from the Sister’s of St Joseph of the Apparition to support their school hostel in Thailand. This hostel provides food, education and a place to stay for many young children. All funds raised from our Mini Fete will go directly to this hostel.

Please take the time to read our Mini Fete flyer and support your class stall by donating the assigned items. We look forward to another successful Mine Fete!

Wishing you a blessed fortnight.

Mark 10:35-45

James and John asked Jesus, “When

you sit on your throne in your

Kingdom, let us sit on your right and left.” Jesus replied,

“Do you know what you are asking? Can you drink the cup

of suffering that I must drink?” “We can,” they answered.

Jesus said, “You will drink the cup I must drink, but I

cannot give you a place. It is God who will give these

places to those he has prepared.”
