Q How can the assembly help the catechumens?

A In many ways! Through their friendly, welcoming de-meanor toward catechumens, by learning their names, greeting them and engaging them in conversation, assem-bly members reassure them that they have a place in the community. Most of the rites of initiation take place at Sunday Mass. By its attention and participation in these rites, the assembly expresses the community’s care and encouragement for the catechumens. What’s more, at every liturgy, catechu-mens look to the assembly members as models, following their example and reflecting on the meaning of the rituals as they watch the assembly’s responses. Welcoming the catechumens into parish activities not only makes them feel included, it also provides them glimpses of the life of disciples. Becoming a sponsor for a catechumen is yet another way assembly members could be helpful. Finally, the faithful can pray for the catechumens throughout the week. For more information about the process of Christian Initiation at IHM, contact Drew Denton in the parish office.

“The kingdoms of this world at times are sustained by arro-gance, rivalries and oppres-sion; the reign of Christ is a 'kingdom of justice, love and

peace.' For a Christian, speak-ing of power and strength

means referring to the power of the Cross, and the strength of Jesus' love: a love which re-

mains steadfast and complete, even when faced with rejection,

and it is shown as the fulfill-ment of a life expended in the total surrender of oneself for

the benefit of humanity.” – Angelus Address of Pope

Francis, Solemnity of Christ the King, November 22, 2015
