Dear Parishioners,
I am very sad to tell you that we have to take down the large, old oak tree next to the Little Church and the rectory. Our tree experts, who have taken care of this tree for years, have told us that it is dying, and two branches are currently threatening the Little Church and the rectory. My guess is that this tree might be as old as the Little Church! What a shame to lose a majestic piece of nature and history on our property. We are going to replace the tree to maintain the beauty of the property and for the good of the environment. We might also try to preserve some of the wood for future projects or fundraisers if it is worth preserving. In the meantime, one of our parishioners will also beautify that area around the Blessed Mother statue as his Eagle Scout project. We thank Joey Nuzzo for his great project and the Knights of Columbus who are donating the beautiful stone bench so people have a place to pause and pray.

COVID-19 Guideline Updates: Mass Is Looking Like Mass Again!
• We can now sit in every pew at our Masses.
• Permission was granted for congregational singing and the presentation of the gifts.
• With Governor Hogan’s recent announcement lifting the indoor mask requirement, the wearing of masks is no longer mandated on the Sacred Heart campus. Masks are still very strongly encouraged for those who are not fully vaccinated.
• We must maintain 3 feet of social distancing between households in the church and inside our other buildings.
• Beginning May 22, we will add a “COVID Cautious” Section to the Main Church for weekend Masses. Anyone who sits in this section must wear a mask at all times. This is a great option if you have children, are immunocompromised, or are just not ready to take off your mask yet! There will be signs in the Main Church to help you find your way to this seating section.

Sacramental

Ordination of Seminarian Maurice Afor
(Our Pastoral Year intern in 2019-2020) Maurice Afor was ordained to the Diaconate at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen on May 15! He joins us at Sacred Heart this weekend (May 22/23) and will do his first preaching as a deacon at some of our Masses.
Congratulations to the Sacred Heart Confirmation Class
Our Sacred Heart Confirmation Class of 2021 received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Saturday, May 22 after a very challenging and unusual year of preparation. Join us in congratulating these young men and women who chose to establish a deeper relationship with God and become closer to Jesus Christ! Please continue to keep them in your prayers. Let us pray:
Come, Holy Spirit, and send your light upon these youth. Fill them with wisdom, understanding, and the willpower that they need to be upright sisters and brothers — Your beloved children. Guide them. Lead them. This prayer we offer to You, Spirit of wisdom and understanding. Amen.

Parish Outreach and Social Justice
Unemployed? Underemployed? Don’t know where to start? We can help! Finding a job is difficult and time-consuming. A new Sacred Heart ministry assists those seeking a new or better job. Our ministry is named after St. Cajetan, a little-known saint who is the patron saint of the unemployed. We offer assistance to job seekers by identifying job search techniques; providing help in writing resumes; offering interviewing tips with dress and
etiquette advice; and offering practice sessions for interviewing. Our goal is to help you prepare yourself for the hiring process and to be successful in identifying and getting the job you want! To learn more, email [email protected] or call the Parish Office.
Immediate Outreach Need
One of our parish families suffered a devastating fire that completely destroyed their home. All five members made it out safely. They have taken temporary shelter, and there is a need for gift cards to local grocery stores, gas stations, and retail stores (Walmart, Target, etc.). No amount is too small. Anything donated in excess of their needs will go to our parish outreach fund. Donations can be put in the collection baskets at Mass this weekend (marked “Outreach”) or dropped at the Parish Center. Thank you to those who have responded so generously thus far!
Mother’s Day Outreach Thank You The Respect Life Committee thanks you for your support on Mother’s Day weekend by purchasing carnations. We sent all proceeds to the Center for Pregnancy Concerns:
We extend a big Thank You to the Sacred Heart Respect Life Committee, Fr. Jerry, and all parishioners who contributed to the Mother’s Day carnation sale. Your donation of over $1,200 helps us fulfill our mission to protect the physical, emotional, and spiritual lives of women and their unborn children. Our new center next to Planned Parenthood in Baltimore city has been busy serving women and their children with free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and abortion pill reversal. Our two resource centers provide education and material assistance to new moms. Sacred Heart has always been generous to us and we are so thankful! God bless you for all that you do for the least of his people.

Laudato si’ Year for the Catholic Church This is the final weekend of the “Laudato si’ Year”!
We come together to take charge of this home which has been entrusted to us, knowing that all the good which exists here will be taken up into the heavenly feast. In union with all creatures, we journey through this land seeking God, for “if the world has a beginning and if it has been created, we must inquire who gave it this beginning, and who was its Creator”. Let us sing as we go. May our struggles and our concern for this planet never take away the joy of our hope. (LS #244)
• We have come to the end of Laudato si’ Year. • How have these weekly reflections touched your heart? • Is there any way they changed your perspective? • In his encyclical, Pope Francis reminds us to stay hopeful! Practice hope this week.

Prayer and Worship
Rosary Walk “Rejoice always.
Pray without ceasing.” ‒ 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17
The Legion of Mary and the Respect Life Committee invite you to join them in participating in a Rosary Walk on Saturday, June 5. We will meet on the front steps of the Little Church at 10:00 AM and then pray a Rosary together — processing behind a beautiful statue of Our Lady of Fatima while walking around the neighborhoods surrounding our church. We pray all will respect the sacred gift of life from conception to natural death and for peace in our world. If you are unable to join us in person, please consider uniting with us in prayer by praying a Rosary from home.
Happy Pentecost Sunday from
“Life in The Spirit” Charismatic Prayer Group By the power of The Holy Spirit we have the light of knowledge of the glory of God that [shines] in the face of Christ crucified and risen; He will return. Our mission as Christians is to spread The Good News of The Kingdom by that same Holy Spirit until He returns. The Spirit helps us not to run from this unfaithful world, but rather to be attentive to the Word of God. At times there may be an argument or a complaint, but that awaits and prepares us for the intervention of the Savior, the Lord of history. (Paraphrased from CCC 2583-84.)
Pray the Rosary at Sacred Heart
We invite you to pray the Rosary with us on weekdays at 8:15 AM in the Little Church. If you can’t make it on weekdays, consider joining us for the Rosary at 8:30 AM on Saturdays after the 8:00 AM Mass.
Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal
The Novena to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal continues for nine consecutive Tuesday evenings at 7:00 PM in the Little Church. It will conclude with the novena prayers
and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on Tuesday, June 29. All are welcome to participate!
May Crowning Reminder Join us around the statue of Mary by the Little Church as we pray the Rosary and crown our Blessed Mother on Sunday, May 23 after the 11:30 AM Mass. All are welcome!
Join Us in Praying at the Holy Hour for Life
“You knit me in my mother’s womb.” ‒ Psalm 139:13 The Respect Life Committee invites you to join us for the Holy Hour for Life during Eucharistic Adoration on First Friday, June 4 from 4:00 ‒ 5:00 PM in the Main Church. Come join us in person as we adore our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, listen to songs of praise, listen to teens and children read prayers and scripture verses, and pray all will respect the sanctity of life from conception to natural death. We will also livestream the Holy Hour for Life. Please join us in person or from home. Thank you for your steadfast prayers for respect for the sacred gift of life.

you’d like to buy a CD, they are available for $5. Please stop by the Parish Center and see Sister Cecilia to purchase one or contact her at 410-833-8515 or [email protected]. You’ll be “rocking” to the music wherever you go! ~ Sister Cecilia
Community Prayer
USCCB Novena for Life
On May 31, the Church celebrates the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast commemorates the Blessed Mother’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth and the encounter of Jesus and St. John the Baptist while in the wombs of their mothers. Join us in praying “A Novena for Life” from May 22-30. Sign up to receive the daily prayers at respectlife.org/visitation.
Sisters of Saint Joseph Invitation The Sisters of Saint Joseph will have a Gathering for Peace on Sunday, May 23 from 2:00 ‒ 3:00 PM on the grounds of St. Joseph’s Villa in Pennsylvania. Please join our community in praying wherever you are as an individual, family, or neighborhood to pray for an end to Racism, Gun Violence, and Human Trafficking. May we also hold in prayer all
Immigrants, Climate Control, Police Reform, and Human Dignity and Kindness.
Pray for Every Child to Find a Loving Adoptive Family The family is the “domestic church,” the basic building block of society. Nearly 4,000 children and youth are in foster care in Maryland, and nearly 500 children are waiting for an adoptive family. These foster kids need the love and support of a family to nurture them to their full potential. Please pray for them during Foster Care Awareness Month.
Are you grieving the loss of a loved one?
Please join us at our next gathering on Sunday, June 6.
