Dear Parishioners,
It is the greatest of privileges to celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ this weekend at all of the Masses. This Feast, like the one we celebrated last week, the Most Holy Trinity, is one of the keystones of our faith. Jesus, on the night before His giving of His whole self for us, gives us His Body and Blood for nourishment and sustenance. He does not give us a symbol. He does not leave a memory. He actually leaves His flesh and blood for us to consume so that He can always be with us and in us. If you do not believe the bread and wine actually become the Body and Blood, soul and divinity of Christ, you should not receive Communion! This is a core belief for us as Catholics, and it separates us from others who just celebrate the Last Supper now and then or monthly because they view it as a symbol. Jesus loves us so much that He wants to continually give Himself to us. This caused scandal even in His own day. Some of the leaders gathered around Him and said, “This saying is hard; who can accept it?” Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, He said to them, “Does this shock you?” (John 6:60-61)
It should shock us! What we receive is God Himself, and He makes Himself vulnerable to us each and every day ― every time we celebrate Mass. It should give us pause, therefore, when we treat Mass so casually or don’t even want to come daily or even weekly. God is here, and we say, “No, thank you.” Adding to that flippant or casual attitude are all who leave Mass early. You have just received the Body and Blood of Christ, and you have to run out the door to get to your car?! St. Philip Neri once sent altar servers with lit candles after a person who was leaving early because he knew they were living tabernacles at that point but did not realize it. Please take some time in a prayer of thanksgiving for the great gift of the Eucharist. Staying until the end of Mass adds no more than five minutes. What else is that important?
As we celebrate this Feast, let us root out all casual, disrespectful, and lukewarm attitudes towards the Church and the Eucharist. Let us reaffirm our belief that the second person of the Holy Trinity, the Creator of the world, God Himself, longs to dwell in us!

Although the Eucharist appears to be simple bread and wine, it is actually the “source and summit” of the Christian life. Presence: The Mystery of the Eucharist
explores the truth and beauty of Christ’s real presence in the Eucharist, from its origins in Sacred Scripture to its profound role in the life of the Church and her members. It is the crescendo of the entire story of salvation. You can view Presence on FORMED at bit.ly/watch-presence. (To set up your free FORMED account, visit www.shgparish.org/formed.)
Sacramental
Padre Jerry Francik

COVID-19 Updates
Mass Guideline Reminders
• We can sit in every pew at our Masses.
• The wearing of masks is no longer mandated on the Sacred Heart campus. Masks are still very strongly encouraged for those who are not fully vaccinated.
• We must maintain 3 feet of social distancing between households in the church.
• We have a “COVID Cautious” Section for weekend Masses. Anyone who sits in this section must wear a mask at all times. This is a great option if you have children, are immunocompromised, or are just not ready to take off your mask yet! There are signs in the Main Church to help you find your way to this seating section.
Lifting the General Dispensation
from the Obligation to Attend Mass: Statement of the Bishops of the Province
of Baltimore and the Archdiocese of Baltimore
June 2, 2021
www.archbalt.org/dispensation-joint-statement
We, the Catholic Bishops of the Province of Baltimore and the Archdiocese of Washington, give thanks to Almighty God for the progress our country has made in curbing the coronavirus pandemic. The average number of new cases of COVID-19 continues to decline due to the observance of safety protocols and the increase of the availability of the vaccine. At this time, many places in our region are enjoying a return to some sense of normalcy.
Therefore, we are lifting the dispensation of the Sunday and Holy Days Mass obligation in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, the Archdiocese of Washington, and the Dioceses of Arlington, Richmond, Wheeling-Charleston, and Wilmington and reinstating that obligation beginning on Saturday, June 26, 2021
and Sunday, June 27, 2021. We welcome and encourage the Faithful to return to full in-person participation of the Sunday Eucharist, the source and summit of our Catholic faith (cf. Code of Canon Law, canon 1246-1247 and Catechism of the Catholic Church, n. 2180).
This obligation does not apply to those who are ill; those who have reason to believe that they were recently exposed to the coronavirus, another serious or contagious illness; those who are confined to their home, a hospital, or nursing facility; or those with serious underlying health conditions. One should consult his or her local pastor if questions arise about the obligation to attend Mass (Canon 1245 and the Catechism of the Catholic Church n. 2181).
Safety protocols and other liturgical directives in each diocese remain in effect until modified or revoked by the respective Diocesan Bishop.
Let us continue to be united in prayer for one another and for an end to the global pandemic.

Boy Scout Troup 706 Boy Scout Troop 706 has been sponsored by Sacred Heart for over 50 years! Currently we are a group of 30 boys (ranging in age from 12 ‒ 18) who meet every Thursday evening to learn skills in leadership, camping, and many other topics. We are a “boy run” troop, so the boys decide the topics that we will be learning. Most recently we have discussed engineering, fishing, and cycling. Through demonstration and hands-on activities, we get to learn these skills and have fun. We also go camping one weekend every month. Our latest camping trip included a bike ride on the NCR trail that ranged from 18-42 miles, depending on skill level. We learned bike safety along with bike maintenance. Other trips have included skiing, kayaking, and backpacking.
This summer the troop will be camping for a week at Broad Creek Memorial Scout Reservation where we will be sleeping in tents, working on merit badges, and having a great time! A group of older scouts will be attending Florida High Adventure Sea Base, a high adventure scout trip where they will be experiencing a variety of ocean adventures. If any boy in grades 6-12 is interested in participating with the Boy Scouts, please contact Jackie Seal at [email protected] or 443-985-6418.

USCCB Call to Action: Proposed Elimination of the Hyde Amendment In his Fiscal Year 2022 budget, President Biden proposes to eliminate the Hyde Amendment and some related pro-life provisions. Calling for elimination of Hyde in a president’s budget is unprecedented. Without it, billions of taxpayer dollars could be used to pay for abortion in the United States and throughout the world. Don’t let our government make you pay for the taking of innocent human life. Please contact the President and express your strong disagreement with his decision to force taxpayers to fund abortion on demand. At the same time, tell Congress to keep the Hyde Amendment and related policies and to oppose any bill that expands taxpayer funding of abortion. Take action at www.votervoice.net/USCCB/Campaigns/83763/Respond.
