THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT A voice of one crying out in the desert:
“Prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight his paths.
Every valley shall be filled
and every mountain and hill shall be made low.
The winding roads shall be made straight,
and the rough ways made smooth,
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
Today the Gospel of Luke references the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah is a prophet in the true sense of the word—he
is called by God to announce something important and to call people to conversion and change. John the
Baptist is the same: he is the last and the greatest of the Old Testament prophets. John never became a
follower of Jesus, he was never a disciple, rather he pointed people toward the truth—Jesus.
In a sense, we are all called to the same life and ministry as John the Baptist—we are to announce the coming
of the Kingdom of God and point people toward Jesus the Christ. Yet, there is one major difference. As
baptized members of Christ’s Body, the Church, we are not simply prophets pointing people toward something
we ourselves do not possess. To the contrary, we are called to announce with authority what we have
experienced and what we know. When we speak to others about Jesus we are talking about someone we
know. Through the Sacrament of Baptism we come to share our basic identity with Christ the Son of God.
God transforms us and adopts us as his children, we become the true brothers and sisters of the Lord.
This Advent can be a time when we reflect on our identity as Christians—who we really are. We are not
prophets in the Old Testament sense of the word, we are heralds of Christ who has entered our lives and
transformed us.
toda montaña y colina, rebajada;

50TH ANNIVERSARY DIRECTORY
As part of the commemoration of our 50th Anniversary, we are going
to produce a pictorial directory of our Church family. This directory
will be a beautiful, hardbound book that will have pictures of the
past as well as portraits of our parishioners today. Sign-up after
Mass to schedule a photography session. These sessions will be
scheduled between January 31 & February 23 in room 11 of the
Parish Life Center. All you need to do is list your name, the number
of family members who will appear in the photo, and phone
numbers. Shortly thereafter, you will receive a call to schedule the
time for your photo session.
This year we are using a new firm, Color Craft Studios. After your
photo session, they will allow you to select photos for your family
without pressure to purchase. Each family who is photographed will
receive the hardbound directory and one photo at no charge.
Volunteers will be available to answer questions after any Mass.
DIRECTORIO PARA NUESTRO 50 (QUINCUAGÉSIMO)
ANIVERSARIO
misa.
