The Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time November 3, 2019

The Lord is full of mercy and compassion, slow to anger and of great kindness. He has come to search out and save what was lost. Let us be more concerned with doing the Lord’s work than with idle speculation

about when He will come again.

Heresies Then and Now: A Look at Ancient Heresies and Their Current

Implementations (2nd Term) This is the second of a 2-part course on heresies in the

Church. It continues in the examination of ancient heresies or

false beliefs that the early church had to confront (with the

exception of the final class on “The Sinless Will” which has

ancient roots, but was primarily manifested in the Middle

Ages). The goal of this course is to be informative about

ancient false teachings along with the modern tendencies to

keep them alive and flourishing. The classes will be held at

10:30 Tuesday mornings in the Parish Center.

Inside the St. Mary Library… Book Review: Edmund Campion by Evelyn Waugh

Arguably the greatest novelist of the 20th century, the

Catholic convert Evelyn Waugh turns his sights here to a narrative-driven biography of the Anglican academic-turned-Jesuit priest Edmund Campion, who after escaping to the Continent from persecution under the Elizabethan regime, returned on a virtual suicide mission to Great Britain to succor the remaining Catholic inhabitants. Waugh brings Campion’s piety and heroism to life, as he tells a gripping story about a dark time in the United Kingdom.
