MASSES FOR THE WEEK
TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
My Dear Parishioners, Today’s First Reading and Gospel gives all of us, especially married couples, all those preparing for marriage, and those who might enter marriage one day, much to reflect upon. The Pharisees use the question of marriage and divorce in another attempt to test and trap Jesus. Jesus turns their question into a teaching that allows all of us to reflect on the real purpose of marriage. Jesus responds by referring to the Book of Genesis, when he says: From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, no human being must separate. Marriage was instituted by God to contribute good to the world. The unity of wife and husband becoming one flesh gives us a glimpse of the unity within the Holy Trinity, the perfect love and unity of three Divine persons in one God. It is also a reflection of the love God has for us. Since God created him man and woman, their mutual love becomes an image of the absolute and unfailing love with which God loves man (CCC 1604). The good news of the Gospel is that Jesus Christ has come into the world to reconcile us to God and to one another. By coming to restore the original order of creation disturbed by sin, he himself gives the strength and grace to live marriage in the new dimension of the Reign of God. It is by following Christ, renouncing themselves, and taking up their crosses that spouses will be able to receive the original meaning of marriage and live it with the help of Christ. This grace of Christian marriage is a fruit of Christ’s cross, the source of all Christian life (CCC 1615). As the people of God, we should not be swayed by how society or others think of marriage, and rediscover how our faith understands marriage. Marriage is a vocation, a calling to life and love between husband and wife. It means following the way of selfless love that Jesus embraced on the Cross. Every marriage that comes before the Lord, gives the couple the vision to see Christ’s love poured out for us in his Body and Blood. This is where a couple at their wedding can begin to give themselves to each other the way Christ gives Himself for us. God Bless, Msgr. Maresca

Focus: Christ became one with us in the flesh for our salvation.
We are made for one another and for
relationships. Christ became one with us in flesh and shared all our human experiences
so we might realize that true love is possible only when we are united with him.
RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION
Just a reminder when coming up to
receive Holy Communion, and after
receiving Jesus, one should be
thinking of the wonderful privilege as a
Catholic to receive Jesus,
that special time we have with our Lord and
Savior.
It is not a time to allow oneself to be
distracted by looking all around, waving,
shaking hands or kissing the person on the
end of the pew. The Roman Missal states
that, “one should prepare by
praying quietly, so that one may fruitfully
receive the Body and Blood of Christ”.
