Dear Parishioners,
At a recent homily at the tomb of St. John Paul II, Polish Cardinal Konrad Krajewski who is in
charge of the charitable office at the Vatican spoke of the coronavirus hitting Italy really hard
and in other places around the world.
The cardinal reflected on how this unfortunate world situation has gotten many people starting
to care for every life. So often, the cardinal remarked, people have centered on the “culture of death” including
euthanasia, abortion and others. “We have become lovers of life,” says Cardinal Krajewski, “looking for vaccines,
taking precautions to guarantee that we can save lives. God loves live. He does not want the death of the sinner,
he wants for the sinner to convert.” In light of the restrictions placed upon Italy because of coronavirus the cardinal had this to say. “We limit our
freedom-you cannot leave cities, all meetings are suspended, people don’t go to work. Why? Because we want to
live.” Lent, according to His Eminence, is about the same thing: choosing life over death and he offers three medicines
that allow us to choose the “resurrection” instead of death: the first medicine is silent deeds of mercy always
focused on other people. The second medicine is prayer- looking at God and asking him, Jesus, do you love me?
Take care of me. And the third medicine against death according to Cardinal Krajewski is fasting, such as making
small savings each day and giving it to charity. The cardinal concluded his homily telling the people of once being called by Pope Francis who gave him a box
that had been sent by a woman from Milan. Inside there were $11,000 in bills of 10 and 20 euros. She saved the
money by turning off the lights when she wasn’t in a room, gave up the second dish at dinner, had no dessert, and
put all the money away, to then send to the Pope. When Cardinal Krajewski told Pope Francis that
there were thousands there, Francis looked at him and said, “You don’t understand anything . . . there
are millions here. This is Lent.”

Our Lady of the Snows R.C. Church Presents
“Padre Pio Miracle Man”
Padre Pio, an Italian friar and mystic exhibited the stigmata for most of his life, generating much interest and controversy. This movie captures the Capuchin friar's intense faith and devotion, and deep spiritual concern for others, as well as his great compassion for the sick and suffering. It reveals the amazing details and events in Padre Pio's life as a boy and throughout his 50 years as a monk, dramatizing the frequent attacks of the Devil on him, as well as the persecution he suffered at the hands of people, including those in the church. Now venerated as a Saint in the Catholic Church. He was beatified (1999) and Canonized (2002) by Pope John Paul II. Starring Italian actor Sergio Castellitto, and directed by Carlo Carlei, this is an outstanding feature film on the amazing life of this great saint.
