Enterprise Controlling – Profit center accounting

The postings in profit center accounting are all driven by master data. It is very critical to understand the master data and its profit center links. When profit center accounting is active like in BSNL, all cost centers are assigned to a profit center through master data. Thus any posting to cost centers are also posted to respective profit center.

All materials in each plant are assigned to profit center. This ensures the key figure like inventory is derived based on this material master data. The key figure like AR is derived based on the revenue posting in each of the sale order related posting to profit centers.

Hence it is very important that these master data is well understood not only by the user responsible for maintaining the master data but also by end users who access profit center information for making business decision. One step more when they come across some data errors in profit center accounting problem they should be able to detect the source of error.

Overview:

Business Process Procedure OverviewMostly organization introduces or deletes profit centers during the planning for the new fiscal year or organization restructuring. A profit center is an organizational unit in SAP that represents a clearly delimited location where costs, revenue and key balance sheet figures can be analyzed. Before you create profit centers, you define a hierarchical profit center structure (Standard hierarchy). In BSNL line of business are represented by Profit centre.

Tips and Tricks

If you need to change or modify standard hierarchy during the exercise of creating new profit center it can be done. The navigational aspect of maintaining the standard hierarchy is similar to accessing create / change cost center group. Ensure you use the right transaction / menu path for standard hierarchy.

Tips & Tricks

Profit centre created will be inactive and needs to be activated before using the same. Click on button when creating the profit centre master and save after that. In case you forgot to activate the same, open the profit centre master in change mode (KE52) and activate the same.

Profit center group – Create Profit center group

Overview:

Business Process Procedure OverviewYou can use profit center groups in the information system, for example. You can use the profit center group structure to define the row structure of your reports. Totals are calculated in the report for each node. The standard hierarchy nodes are also part of the profit center groups.

You can also use profit center groups whenever you want to process several profit centers in one transaction. The usage is similar to other master data groups in controlling module

Tips and Tricks

The standard hierarchy nodes are also profit center groups. This grouping would be useful in most of the business needs. Only in case of special requirements you may have to create profit center groups.
