IntroductionThe wealth of knowledge a person gains throughout his or her lifetime is impossible to measure, and it will certainly vary from person to person. However, regardless of the scope of knowledge, the foundation for all learning remains constant. All that we know and think throughout our lifetimes is based upon fundamentals, and these fundamentals are the basic skills upon which all learning develops. Mastering First Grade Skills is a book that reinforces a variety of fundamentals:

This book was written with the wide range of student skills and ability levels of first grade students in mind. Both teachers and parents can benefit from the variety of pages provided in this book. Parents and children can use the book as an introduction to new material or to reinforce familiar skills. Similarly, a teacher can select pages that provide additional practice for concepts taught in the classroom. When tied to classroom instruction, pages from this book offer homework reinforcement. The worksheets provided in this book are ideal for use at home as well as in the classroom.

Research shows us that skill mastery comes with exposure and drill. To be internalized, concepts must be reviewed until they become second nature. Parents can supplement the classroom experience by exposing children to necessary skills whenever possible, and teachers will find that these pages perfectly complement their classroom curriculum. An answer key beginning on page 230 provides teachers, parents, and children with a quick method of checking responses to completed work sheets.

Basic skills are utilized every day in untold ways. Make the practice of them part of your childrens routine. Fundamentals gained now will benefit them throughout their lives.
