The Economic Policy Management (EPM)-Ghana Programme is a regional capacity building programme aimed at offering

graduate-level training in Economic Policy Man-agement (EPM). SPONSORS The Masters Degree Programme in Economic Policy Management is sponsored by the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) and the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Programme (JJ/WBGSP) PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES The primary objective of the programme is to offer graduate-level training in Economic Policy Man-agement (EPM) for middle-level policy managers from African countries and emerging market econ-omies. Given the development and reform chal-lenges facing developing countries, economic poli-cy practitioners require more than a sound ground-ing in economic theory and analytical techniques. They need management skills and team-based experience with case-oriented policy applications to enhance their effectiveness. Moreover, they must be able to draw on a wider pool or policy experience and best practices both within and outside their own regions to develop sustainable policy frameworks, and implementation of plans for economic management.

The EPMP aims to train mid-career policy practitioners to be well-rounded economic policy advisors, who will contribute to the economic management capacity of their home organisations, including government minis-tries, central banks, parastatal bodies, and non-governmental organisations. Specifically, the programme objective is: To provide high level training, focusing on both the theoretical and practical aspects of economic policy management; and to train policy advisors in macroeco-nomic management for developing countries. The EPM Programme consists of a 12-month course work and research project offered by the Department of Economics in collaboration with University of Ghana Business School. It draws on practi-tioners from the public and private sectors domestically, regionally and internationally and on faculty resources from the region and elsewhere to serve as guest speakers and resource persons for selected modules in the programme.
