Religious Education Whole School Mass

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our whole school Mass on Monday morning. Our next whole school Mass will be celebrated on Friday 2nd September at 7:30am. We hope to see you there!

First Holy Communion Over the past month, children from Mater Christi Catholic Primary School have been preparing to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. This is a very special time for children as they celebrate the second stage of their initiation into the Catholic Church. This preparation involves the home, school and parish. It is this three-fold partnership that will enable children to learn, deepen and enrich their faith and grow in a love for the body and blood of Christ.

Last weekend we celebrated our second group of students receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist. It was a very special occasion for the children and their families. Best Wishes Courtney Dunsire Assistant Principal

First Holy Communion This weekend is the last of three very big weekends where our Year Four students make their First Holy Communion. The Masses so far have been very special and I’m sure this weekend will be no different. The students really look the part and have been very well prepared by their teachers and I’m sure this weekend will be no exception. Please keep all our of Year Four students in your prayers during this special time in their lives. Performing Arts Festival This week was a big week for some of our Performing Arts students and teachers with Senior Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Junior Choir and Choral Singing all performing at various venues across Perth. As usual they represented our school with pride and performed to the best of their ability. I would like to congratulate them and Miss Ross for their efforts.

Congratulations Well done to Isabella Campeotto in 5A for finishing first in the 2016 West Australian 9Yr Girls State Irish Dance Championships over the weekend. This is a great achievement and we are certainly very proud of you Isabella. Have a great weekend Mark Ryan Acting Principal

Drive Through Drop Off During our last holiday break, you will have noticed that the brick pavement around the Drive-Through area was extended alongside the Canteen. This now allows for increased space for children to safely exit the car during morning drop-off periods. We continue to encourage parents to utilise the entire space provided in Drive-Through by commencing the drop-off point adjacent to the red fire hydrant, just as we do with afternoon pick-up. All cars within the ‘U’ space (from the fire hydrant to the 4C classroom window) are able to deliver their children and move through for the next sequence of cars to do the same. In maximising this space we are able to prevent long queues and ensure a steady flow of traffic. Drive Through Reminder Please note that left turning into drive through from Yangebup Road is not permitted and holds up the flow of traffic entering from Dunraven Drive. If you are utilising drive through to collect your child/ren please join the queue from the right and be courteous to drivers accessing Montessori and Divine Mercy College. Thank you We thank you for your participation. Nicole Cloutt Acting Assistant Principal- Admin

AUSTRALIA: STORY COUNTRY

Storytelling is an ancient art form that goes right back to the days when humankind told stories while huddled around a campfire. Nowadays we have many fancy digital ways to tell stories, but they are still a combination of words and often sounds and images. A good story can entertain us, teach us a lesson, or even change the way we look at the world.

Storytelling is one way of conveying a story. A focus on storytelling is an excellent way to ensure children develop fundamental communication skills. They include speaking audibly and coherently to an audience, using one’s body and face to communicate, and preparing/practising a story before delivery. Story is hugely important in our society, is used by adults in a range of professions (e.g. advertising, sales, teaching, psychology, welfare) and is the basis of many educational and entertainment activities.

Stories come from all over the world. Children, I encourage you to immerse yourself in a range of stories and to read them, to listen to them, to watch them and then continue to share them with the people around you. During book week there will be plenty of book displays throughout the library. Look out for the award winning books, new books to our library and lots of great Australian stories.

Dates to remember: Monday 29 August: Book Week Dress up day. Parade at 9am in the Mater Christi Community Centre.

Look forward to seeing you all dressed up!

Child Protection Week (Mater Christi Parish)

Whilst the Safeguarding Project is working hard throughout the Perth Catholic Archdiocese, we all must play our part to protect children and keep them safe. During Child Protection Week in September, the Safeguarding Office in partnership with the Protective Behaviour WA will be hosting a series of Protective Behaviour Workshops. Our Parish is lucky enough to be one of the parishes to host a workshop. One way in which parents can assist in increasing their child’s safety is by teaching them the protective behaviours program. These workshops, have been designed to teach parents and carers how to increase the personal safety of their children. Whilst there are many ways of talking to children about their personal safety, it is important that we do not scare them or leave them feeling unsafe, afraid or disempowered. Our workshop will be held on Thursday the 8th of September from 7pm-9pm. It is for parents only, no children. We strongly recommend that you attend. If you cannot attend this night, please consider going to a workshop at another location. Registration forms can be found in the foyer of church. To register, you must complete the form and return it to the Safeguarding office by Thursday 1st September. Thank you From your Parish Safeguarding officers
