Making the Wedges1. Sew together 4 strips 2" x wof of both 6475-Red and 6476-Red (white fabric with small red flowers). Offset the

strips by 1-1/2" in each row as shown in Diagram 1. This will enable you to get the maximum number of wedgesfrom each strip set. Press seams toward the dark red fabric. Make two strip sets. Each set will yield 12 wedges.Our pattern uses 20 wedges.

2. Print and cut out the two parts of the wedge template. Tape together along indicated lines to make full sizeWedge Template. Transfer this to template material . . .

Making the Wedges (continued):3. Diagram 3 shows the two different arrangements of the color placement in the

wedges. Label them Wedge 1 (with the white print at the widest top) andWedge 2 (with the red print at the widest top). You will need 10 of each colorplacement wedge.

4. Select three of Wedge 1 and two of Wedge 2 and sew together as shown inDiagram 4. Press seams open. Make 2 of these quarter circles, beginning andending with a Wedge 1.

5. Select three of Wedge 2 and two of Wedge 1 and sew together as shown inDiagram 5. Press seams open. Make 2 of these quarter circles, beginning andending with a Wedge 2.

Making the Blocks:1. Cut four 7" x 22" strips of the interfacing and pin to RIGHT side of a

5-wedge quarter circle. Sew 1/4" seam, following the curved edge ofthe top of the wedges, gently curving around the angles where thewedges meet, creating a smooth curve. Repeat for remaining 3 wedgeunits. See Diagram 6.

2. Turn interfacing around to wrong side of wedge unit and press fromfront of fabric. Top edges of the wedge unit are turned under. Do nottrim away interfacing from behind wedge yet.

3. Cut four squares of white fabric 17-1/2" x 17-1/2". Align each of the5-wedge quarter circles to the straight edges of the squares as shown.Pin securely. Using invisible poly thread, machine zigzag stitch 1/4circle to background square. (If you prefer, you may use any otherstitch, hand or machine.) Repeat for all 4 quarter blocks.

Making the Blocks (continued):4. Cut 4 squares 9-1/2" x 9-1/2" of the large scale

print (6473-Red). Fold in half, wrong sidestogether (Diagram 7). Place in corners of eachblock as shown in Diagram 8. Machine baste 1/8"from raw edge. Fold edge of triangle back in thecenter to create a curve; pin and stitch 1/8" awayfrom folded edge of triangle (Diagram 9). Repeatfor remaining three 17-1/2" blocks.

5. Trim away both the interfacing and the whitefabric from behind the curved wedge units toreduce bulk.

6. Sew the four 1/4 blocks together to make thelarge central block. Press seams open.

7. Transfer markings of the circle template to freezerpaper and cut out. Cut a 3-1/2" square of large-scale print (6473-Ruby) and a 3-1/2" square ofinterfacing. On the wrong side of the red printfabric, iron the circle template. Pin right side ofred fabric to interfacing; sew along the outside ofthe freezer paper; trim 1/4" away from seam. Clipinto the interfacing, turn the circle right side outand press well. Center and place the circle overthe open space where the four 1/4 blocks cometogether. Pin well. Sew with a small zigzag stitchto finish the block. Turn block over and trimaway the interfacing. (See Diagram 10)

8. Block now measures 34-1/2" x 34-1/2".

Adding the Borders & Finishing:1. Cut four strips 2-1/2" x wof from 6474-red for

the inner borders. Measure and trim two strips to 34-1/2" long and sew to quilt top and bottom.Measure and trim remaining two strips to 38-1/2"long and sew to quilt sides. Press seams.

2. Cut four strips 7-1/2" x 38-1/2" from 6473-Ruby. Sew two to quiltsides. Press seams. Cut four squares 7-1/2" x 7-1/2" from 6473-Red(same print as large corner triangles). Sew one to each of the shortends of the remaining two 7-1/2" borders. Sew to quilt sides.

3. Layer quilt top, batting and backing. Quilt as desired.

4. Cut six strips 2-1/4" x wof 6476-Red for binding. Sew into longstrip; press wrong sides together, and use to bind quilt.
