Unit 12: “Space: Our Solar System”

General Aim from Unit:

Learning outcome Purpose: Format Activities & instruments

1. To gather information about previous knowledge related to present tenses, going to and future simple tense; grammatical structures.

Diagnostic Co-evaluation.

Students will be asked to answer a diagnostic test in order to gather information about previous knowledge related to the use of present tenses, going to, future simple tense and grammatical structures.

1. Students will answer the test.

2. Students will correct the diagnostic test with the KEY the teacher will provide projected on the board.

3. T will gather the test in order to get the data (scores).

4. T will provide the scores and he/she will analize the most common mistakes with the class.

* The score the students get on this test will be classified in Sobresaliente/ Logrado/ No Logrado.

to apply to an agency to travel to space.

-2. Students are able to write an application letter to get a spot in the next space expedition to Mars.

Students will be asked to do the formative test in order to gather information about the learning process in progress and how it is taking place. This evaluation will be mainly focused on students’ creativity when writing an application letter, and also their ability to describe themselves both academically and personally.

The marks will be given back to students two weeks later and they will have the chance to compare their letters with their classmates.

The teacher will refer to the most common mistakes made by the students and he/she will also show an example of his/her own letter of application to Mars.

Students will be asked to create a personal chart about them, describing physical characteristics and a personal description. The format to be used will be hetero and co-evaluation.

The procedure used for assessing the students’ charts will be a checklist.

The marks will be given back to the students the following class.

The teacher will provide feedback to students about their most common mistakes.

1. To identify main structures related to the content of the unit, verb tenses analyzed in previous classes.

2. Apply concepts learnt in order to write a letter of application for a position in a space agency.

Summative Hetero-evaluation.

Students will be asked to do the Summative test in order to gather information about the learning process as a product. The product is related to the use of present tenses, going to, future simple tense and grammatical structures and vocabulary taught in classes related to space travelling. The format to be used will be hetero-evaluation.

The marks will be given back to students the following class. Students will have the opportunity to check their answers with the key, which will be provided by the teacher (projected on the board).

The teacher will provide explanations for most common mistakes registered in the Summative test.
