“For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.”Matthew 6:13 (NAS)For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

This week we are wrapping up our study of the Lord’s Prayer. We’ve been learning how Jesus not only taught us to pray but used that prayer to reveal to us great truths about the nature of God that affect us every day. This week we’re learning why Jesus ends the prayer with a focus on eternity, and how God’s power and glory bring His “forever” Kingdom into our lives, starting right now.

Share Your StoryWhat’s something in your life that you would want to last forever?

Where do you see God’s eternal Kingdom in your life?

How can your community and group help you experience the Kingdom of God?

Where have you seen God’s power and glory at work in your community?

Give each person an opportunity to share prayer requests.

Find Your Story in God’s StoryIf you feel God is nudging you to go deeper, take some time between now and our next discussion to dig into His Word. Explore the Bible passages related to this session’s theme on your own, jotting your reflections in a journal or in this study guide. Want to go deeper? Select a few verses and try paraphrasing them: writing them in your own words. If you like, share them with the group the next time you meet.

Where do you see God’s eternal Kingdom, power, and glory at work in your life right now?

What are the realities of Heaven that we should set our sights on?

By contrast, what are the things of earth that we shouldn’t focus on (vv. 5-11)?

What are some of the gifts from God that show up in your life when you “put on your new nature” and focus on God’s eternal Kingdom?

What impact could you have on the people around you — your coworkers, neighbors, family and so on — when God’s power is revealed through your life?

What needs to happen for us to enter the Kingdom of God?

Jesus tells us people who aren’t born again can’t directly experience the Kingdom of God, but those same people do directly encounter other Christians. What parts of the Kingdom of God would you hope are evident through your life?

As a “representative of the Lord Jesus” (Col. 3:17), how can you invite others to enter into the Kingdom of God?

How can you invite others into conversation about eternal things?

READ MATTHEW 6:19-21

NorthlandChurch.net/TheKingdomPrayerAfterward have someone read the discussion questions in the “Hear God’s Story” section and start the conversation.

Read the passages together, and then discuss the following questions.

What happens to treasures on earth? What happens to treasures stored in the Kingdom of Heaven?

What do you think a treasure in heaven would be? How do you store those treasures?

Verse 21 says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Why do you think your heart follows your treasure, instead of the other way around?

What happens to a heart that has followed worldly treasures?

Most of us have experienced a loss of earth “treasures” before, whether in material possessions, relationships or status. What’s a time when you’ve lost something significant? How did it affect you?

What are some ways you can build into forever instead of choosing to invest in “for now” things?
