The Disciple’s(Lord’s) Prayer:

Part 5 of 10:God’s Will

Matthew 6:9-13

Recap from Last Week:

1. Kingdom

2. God’s Kingdom

3. God’s Kingdom Come

Matthew 6:9-139 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come,

your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts,

as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.’

1. Will: Matthew 6:1010 your kingdom come,

your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

The will is the

ability to choose, think, and act

voluntarily.

2. God’s Will

Matthew 6:1010 your kingdom come,

your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

God’s will is

His ability to

choose, think, and act

voluntarily as God.

2.1 God’s Will vs Human Will: Mark 8:32-3332 He spoke plainly about this, and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.33 But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”

2.2 God’s Will Can Be Known:

Romans 12:22 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

(1) God’s will can be tested and approved through the

renewal of our minds.

(2) God’s will is always in line with the principles

outlined in His word.

2.3 God’s Will is Good, Pleasing & Perfect:

Romans 12:22 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

(1) Good- The purposes of His will is always

good in His eyes and for us.

(2) Pleasing- The purposes of His will is

pleasing unto Him and for us.

(3) Perfect- The purposes of His will is perfect in His perspective.

3. God’s Will Done: Matthew 6:1010 your kingdom come,

your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 26:39, 42 & 4439 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” 42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.

God’s Will

Like Jesus we:

1) Pray for His will to be done as

Like Jesus we:

2) We open our lives to do His will

Summary:

1. Will

2. God’s Will

3. God’s Will Done
