The National Philatelic Exhibitions of Washington, D.C., Incorporated, or NAPEX, welcomes you to our annual stamp show. We are a non- profit-educational-voluntary organization dedicated to promoting philately in the National Capital Region.

This year we are proud to host the First Day Ceremony of the 1997-98 Federal Duck Stamp, the first time that a Duck Stamp has had its First Day Ceremony at a National Stamp Show.

This is our third year at the McLean Hilton Hotel at Tysons Comer, Virginia, and we are booked here for a long time to come! Next year we will return to our traditional show dates of the first weekend after observed Memorial Day.

This program outlines all the - - activities we packed into this year's show. We trust that you will find it a useful reference and a keepsake of the show.

We want to welcome the societies holding annual conventions with us this year, The Perfins Club and the Brazil Philatelic Association.

The NAPEX committee is indebted to and thanks our participating dealers, advertisers, Bob Dumaine, volunteers, hotel guests, and attendees, without whom this show would not be possible.

Stephen Luster President, NAPEX, Inc.

Brazil Philatelic Association APS Affiliate 32

Founded in 1968, we are a growing organization with 125 worldwide members. We publish the quarterly Bull's Eyes journal. The journal's name reflects Brazil's first postage issue in 1843 of 30,60, and 90 reis stamps. Each stamp value had a circular design looking like bull's eyes. Each journal features a 150-lot auction, a question-and-answer column, a summary of recent auction results, new issues information, and a wide variety of research articles. Our library has over 100 issues of the Bull's Eyes. For this weekend's annual convention, the association plans include a Friday dinner and a membership meeting with program. The Association invites you to stop by Table E and leam more about Brazilian collecting. We have free literature and members available to evaluate your Brazilian material. Membership dues are $15 a year, write Kurt Ottenheimer, 462 West Walnut Street, Long Beach, NY 11561. We also invite you to view at NAPEX 97 the fine examples of Brazilian collections on exhibit.

The Perfins Club,Inc. I APS Affiliate 57

Founded in 1943, we are an organization of philatelists, devoted to the collection and study of Perforated Initials and Insignia in postage stamps. The club has about 900 collectors who have compiled a massive amount of information about U.S. and foreign perfins. Pelfins are easy to get, fun to collect, and present many different ways to specialize. The club has recorded over 6,000 patterns of U.S. perfins with about 40,000 known !

worldwide. The area is largely unexplored and examples generally ! I inexpensive. Collections can be by type pattern, postage issue, company

covers, or topics. Topics include banks, schools, and auto, rail, or insurance companies. The Pe'fins Bulletin keeps members informed and in touch with

I - each other 10 times a year. The club offers illustrated catalogs for U.S. I I,

perfins and several for other countries. The World Perfin Catalog covers the remaining countries which have few perfins. Other services include a directory, auctions, slide programs, speakers bureau, special awards, library and our annual convention. Membership dues are $15 for 1997-8 plus a one-time $1 mailing fee. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hageahey of Egg Harbor Township, NJ are at Table B. They are dressed in period costumes. Their demonstration includes the operation of a colonial era, hand-operated printing press. They will demonstrate this printing press used, during the revolutionary period, by printing single pages. These "broadsides" are free to those in line (young visitors move to the eont of any line). The Napex wildlife theme is featured on this broadside. Other printing products are on display.
