• MAX-lab is a swedish national laboratory that operates accelerators producingx-rays of very high intensity and quality

• Presently operational MAX-II and MAX-III storage rings• 1000 scientists per year

In July 2010 MAX-lab became part of the MAX IV Laboratory that includes theMAX IV project.

MAX IV is a new project which will be the brightest x-ray source in the worldwhen opening to users in 2016.

MAX IV consists of two storage rings (1.5GeV and 3 Gev)

MAX-lab + MAX IV = MAX IV Laboratory

Finnish contribution to the existing MAX –laboratory:

• Collaboration started in the birth of MAX-I laboratory• 1992 Finnish Beamline (BL51) funded by AF,

Universities of Oulu, Turku and Tampere Technical,• VTT collaboration to undulator design started through Finnish consortium• 1997 Finnish beamline transferred to new MAX- II ring and upgraded

- among the most productive beamlines- offering access for all services provided by MAX-lab

• 2009 FINEST (Finnish-Estonian) branchline at beamline I3, MAX-III• Contribution to CW Ti-Saphire Laser and related infra (50%)

• Continued exchange collaboration providing international perspective for FinnishPhd students and Post.Docs. and research input for the MAX-laboratory andFinnish Universities
