Maxwell® 16 SystemAutomated Purification of Nucleic Acids for Clinical Labs
Maxwell® 16 Nucleic Acid Purification
Maxwell® 16 SystemPersonal Automation™ for the Clinical Lab
Better workflow through automationThe Maxwell® 16 System makes nucleic acid purification fast and simple. It allows you to extract DNA from up to 16 samples in 30 to 40 minutes. Automating your nucleic acid extractions decreases hands-on bench time spent manually extracting and reduce pipetting errors and repetitive motion injuries. The Maxwell 16 System speeds front-end processing, enabling you to add molecular tests without adding personnel. It’s personal automation that works for you–so you can process more samples in less time.
Three simple steps for DNA extraction:1. Add buffy coat or blood samples to a Maxwell reagent cartridge
2. Place the reagent cartridge into the Maxwell instrument
3. Press start. You will have purified DNA for downstream applications in minutes.
Better methods mean no detectable cross contamination
The robust system design avoids common problems associated with other automated purification systems, such as clogged tips and partial reagent transfers. Most importantly, there is no detectable cross contamination between samples—no splashing, no aerosols and no drips from pipette tips.
Figure 1. No detectable cross contamination. DNA was extracted from 300µl of blood from 8 female (F) and 8 male (M) donors in alternating cartridges of the Maxwell Instrument. Samples were processed by PCR using the Y Chromosome AZF Analysis kit (Multiplex E) (Cat. #MD1631). There is no detectable male DNA in the female sample wells. Lanes: –, negative PCR control; FC, female DNA control; MC male DNA control; and L, 50bp DNA Step Ladder (Cat.# G5421).
Better reagents and applications supportThe Maxwell 16 System is labeled with the CE IVD mark in Europe and is compliant as a General Purpose Medical Device in the United States. The Maxwell 16 instrument is proven in a variety of applications, including DNA purification from human blood and buffy coat. Better set-up and operationThe Maxwell 16 System provides everything you need for purification, including pre-filled reagent cartridges, specialized disposable plastics and easy-to-understand instructions. No separate computers or specialized training are required. And, the instrument is compact so it can fit into virtually any lab. You get reproducible yields at the push of a button from every operator and from every sample, every day.
Figure 2. Pre-filled reagent cartridges and automated processing replace hands-on, labor-intensive manual methods, saving time and steps.
Better performance for consistent high yieldThe Maxwell 16 System uses a paramagnetic-particle handling system that processes samples using Maxwell reagent kits, providing consistent yield and purity. It automatically extracts DNA cleanly and consistently, giving you optimal samples for downstream applications. The Maxwell 16 System provides high yield that allows you to run multiple PCR, SSP, SBT or other reactions and still have sufficient DNA available for re-test or archiving. You no longer have to worry whether additional sample will be available.
