The University of Agriculture, Faisalabad has ini�ated a program 'UAF PhD Research Program' under the �tle ‘Research Fellows’ exclusively for PhD scholars at UAF on compe��ve basis. In response to ‘Call for Proposals’, applica�ons received �ll March 31, 2016 were short listed by the respec�ve Facul�es. In the 1st week of May, 2016, a Review Commi�ee will evaluate the research proposal recommend for the award of Research Grant up to Rs. 100000 and s�pend @Rs. 10000/p.m to the poten�al students upto two years. The short listed candidates are advised to be ready for final round expected in 1st week of May, 2016.

UAF Research Fellowships

To meet the current challenges of researchers working in local universi�es/DAIs of Pakistan and to promote R&D with facilita�on, U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security (USPCAS-AFS) at University of Agriculture, Faisalabad has ini�ated a research grant program under which crea�ve researchers are awarded research grants. In this context USPCAS-AFS invited concept papers on the following themes to finance research proposals:

Prof. Dr. Masudul Alam Choudhury, pioneer in the field of Epistemological Ques�ons of Islamic Economics and Finance, Money in Islam, published by Routledge, 1997. Visi�ng Professor, Social Economy Center OISE, University of Toronto, Canada. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Humanomics: Interna�onal Journal of Systems & Ethics currently in its 32nd year of publica�on. He is author of over 100 refereed papers and over 30 books published by highly-rated publishing outlets. Dr. Chaudhry was in UAF under Visi�ng Scholar Program of HEC for approximately one month, and he delivered series of lectures on fundamentals of Islamic Economics and input output modeling. Five Interna�onal seminars and three interna�onal workshops were organized by the Ins�tute of Agricultural and Resource Economics. He ac�vely par�cipated in seminars and conferences and policy dialogues. An interna�onal seminar was also arranged in Punjab Economic Research Ins�tute (PERI) at Lahore. His visit to UAF was very produc�ve and learned. He explained a wide range of topics, stages of epistemic construc�on of model of S-S model, input output in fixed and dynamic coefficient model, mathema�cal deriva�ons of model equa�ons, Double log model of agricultural and other sectors of na�onal income., Generalized i/o results of Oman, Spa�al domain analysis (SDA), representa�on of simula�on results, Input-output coefficient model for agricultural sector within the na�onal planning in Islamic formal system, Data considera�on and collec�on: how the Islamic

formalism is constructed in general and applied to agricultural sector development. He le� for Canada on April 29, 2016. The contribu�on of ORIC to make this visit a success story was commendable.

Visi�ng Scholar Program at UAF

Dr. Neil Forrester's visit to UAF

Dr. Neil Forrster, a renowned co�on scien�st, experienced business strategist and policy adviser with a deep commitment to Pakistan is visi�ng Pakistan in May 2016. ORIC has planned to organize a seminar on Pakistan’s Co�on Emergency on May 23, 2016. The event will jointly be organized by University of Agriculture, Faisalabad and Pakistan Agricultural Coali�on (PAC) with a view to provide a pla�orm to the scien�sts and progressive growers for discussing the challenges and op�ons to co�on crop in Pakistan. A detailed program will follow.

ORIC organized capacity building workshops for the faculty members “How to write a winning proposal for HEC under NRPU” as per following schedule:

The faculty members joined these sessions as per their convenience. They were provided basic informa�on about project formali�es, milestones adjustment and budget under the guidelines of HEC. Dr. Abdul Rashid Ex. Member Monitoring & Evalua�on PARB, Ex Director Vegetables/oil seeds AARI very precisely presented the key points for a winning proposal. He also interacted with the par�cipants.Deadline for submission of research proposals under NRPU to HEC is May 10, 2016. ORIC has to ini�ally scru�nize the research proposals, it has therefore, planned to receive project proposals date now extended �ll May 05, 2016

The Higher Educa�on Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has invited Research Grant applica�ons to finance research proposals under NRPU from researchers/ faculty members. The Principal Inves�gator has to submit Six (6) sets of hard copies of the proposals along with so� copy (in CD form) of duly filled applica�on form through ORIC. HEC has mandated ORICs to scru�nize and get plagiarism report(s) of the submi�ed projects at ins�tu�onal level. For submission of research proposals as per HEC requirements, the following commi�ee has been approved by the Vice Chancellor to scru�nize the research proposals:

RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATIONS UNDER NRPU 2016

A Seed Produc�on Training under the auspices of UC DAVIS is going to be held from May 9-11, 2016 in collabora�on with ORIC followed by a day's tour to Pioneer Seed (Pvt) Ltd and Sohni Dhar� Seeds, Sahiwal. The par�cipants of this workshop are nominated by the primary partners of Agriculture Innova�on Program (AIP).

Seed Produc�on Training at UAF from May 9-11, 2016

The Government of Pakistan, Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordina�on has ini�ated Na�onal Internship Program (NIP) “Prime Minister's Youth Training Scheme” to provide handson training to the young degree/diploma holders with the aim to enhance employability to educated youth. More than 200 intern(s) have joined UAF through ORIC. The intern(s) have been placed in the relevant department/ ins�tutes. Monthly s�pend @ Rs. 12000/- per month will be paid to intern(s) by the Govt. of Pakistan.

Prime Minister's Youth Training Scheme

Prof. Dr. Qamar uz Zaman, Program Chair Precision Agriculture, Dalhousie University, Canada is visi�ng UAF from March 23 to May 04, 2016 under “President Program for Care of Highly Qualified Overseas Pakistanis (PPQP)”. During his visit, he delivered series of lectures on Precision Agriculture and related technologies for faculty /students. He also spoke in Farmer's Conven�ons that were organized at UAF Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Agricultural University-Multan and PMAS Arid Agriculture University-Rawalpindi. Dr. Zaman was key note speaker in 2nd Na�onal Conference on Precision Agriculture, organized by Precision Agriculture Program of USPCAS-AFS UAF on April 16, 2016. He emphasized to develop and use indigenous technologies that can reduce input cost and enhance crop yield.

Dr. Zaman also visited farmer's field in Sumandri and inaugurated an Outreach Center established by USPCAS-AFS.

Sukkur IBA in collabora�on with Sindh Enterprise Development Fund (SEDF), University of Agriculture Faisalabad and Pakistan Agricultural Coali�on (PAC) organized an Agri-Business Seminar focusing the prospects, challenges and opportuni�es in the Agri-business industry on 25 April 2016. Chairperson Sindh Board of Investment Ms. Naheed Memon presided the seminar chair. Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad Prof. Dr. Iqrar Ahmad graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The seminar was a�ended by officials from Agro-based industry, Banking sector, Progressive Farmers, Government

Visit of H.E Ambassador of Kingdom of the Netherlands to UAF on April 28, 2016

H.E. Ms. Jeanne�e Seppen, Ambassador of Kingdom of the Netherlands visited, UAF on April 28, 2016. During her visit She discussed the issues of Bilateral Trade, R&D ac�vi�es, Faculty/ Student Exchange Programs and urged to strengthen the linkages with UAF in the upcoming years. She appreciated the progress made by UAF during the tenure of visionary leadership to ensure food security in the country. She floated different ideas to be materialized in future to strengthen the �es between two countries.

A Public lecture on 'Professionalism'

Faculty of Agri Engineering and Technology organized a Public Lecture on 'Pofessionalism'. which was held at University of Agriculture Faisalabad. The session was chaired by Pakistan Engineering Council Chairman Engr. Jawed Salim Qureshi while Higher Educa�on Commission Chairman Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmad co- chaired the event and MNS Agriculture University Multan Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asif Ali also present in this event.

A WORKSHOP ON NEW APPROACHES IN

'STATISTICAL APPs'

The UC DAVIS in collabora�on with CIMMYT has developed an 'App' for sta�s�cal analysis. Dr. Mignal Macias (Master trainer for this App) will hold a workshop on 'Sta�s�cal Apps' at New Senate Hall, UAF on May 28,2016. This workshop will enable the par�cipants to use this 'App'. A Faculty member from Department of Mathema�cs and Sta�s�cs will deliver lecture on the basics of Sta�s�cs.Nomina�ons from Deans/Directors will be received and detailed program will follow.
