A Message from Pastor Helga Jansons

May 1, 2020

interconnected we are; we breathe the same air that

someone had exhaled moments ago, we touch the

same things, and we can transfer all manner of

things from one person to another across the world,

including love.

As people of faith we know that God is the God of

the whole world and that every part of God’s

creation matters to God. There is more than our

planet that is in the mind of God, but enough for us

to be concerned about people in all circumstances

across the globe.

Our peripheral vision has expanded and we are made

new when we enter into the heart of God. We join

with God, who so loves this world that he gave his

son Jesus Christ so that whoever believes in him

might have eternal life. Eternal life in Christ is in

every moment. Our peripheral vision allows us to see

our lives in light of eternity, now. When we are

aware of that, we are entering the mind of God.

Just as the disciples were empowered and

emboldened to live out their faith because they

knew the risen Lord, so can we. As we enter the

heart and mind of God, our fears of the threat to our

lives and those we love can be transformed. We can

courageously share the love of God and the

presence of Christ with people who are more

receptive than ever.

Filled with the breath of the Holy Spirit which we

inhale as people of faith we pray to Jesus Christ, we

communicate with God on behalf of those we know

and don’t know and for God’s world. Stretching our

peripheral vision is easier with a list so I share mine

on the next page. …..continued

This is the season of Easter – the season of new life.

There is no question that everything is “new”!

This was true for the disciples also. After they saw

that Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, their lives

would never be the same. Now they knew that

everything that Jesus had said and done was of God.

They knew the power of God and that God acts. Their

lives were changed not just by knowing what was pos-

sible with God, they themselves were

transformed and made totally new.

But that did not make life easier for them. With the

stunning realization that God brings life out of death,

and with the presence of the risen Christ right

alongside them, they had the courage to act in spite

of all the threats to their lives. Empowered and

emboldened by the Spirit of Christ, they proclaimed

the resurrection of Jesus to all, in the face of death

and persecution.

This new life in Christ is ours too. The power of the

resurrection is ours to hold onto for dear life. It

changes how we see the world and how we see our

lives. The promises of Easter mean more now than

ever: forgiveness, the presence and love of God in

Christ, the triumph of love over hate, good over evil,

new life, life over death and eternal life. A life lived

with the risen Jesus Christ is ours, centered in the

power and love of God.

These days we are staying in place rather than busily

running around. We are connecting more deeply with

ourselves and life, and likely with God. We are facing

life and death decisions in everyday life, like going

shopping! We are aware how

Gracious God, we join with you in your love and care

for:

The elderly who live in fear across the world and in

senior care centers

Those who are sick, dying from or have been

diagnosed with the Coronavirus.

We pray for family members of those who have the

virus, are in hospital or have died. We pray for those

who cannot bury their loved ones or have had to put

memorial services on hold.

We pray for those with other illnesses or other

medical, mental health and dental needs who cannot

receive treatment and therapy now.

Those who do not have health insurance, adequate

medical care or even access to health care.

All health care and emergency service workers.

May they maintain their health, and continue their

work with compassion with the strength and the

peace of the Lord

All who are anxious about going to work each day in

stores, gas stations, factories and packaging houses,

food processing plants, the media and all others work-

ing in essential services

Business leaders making difficult decisions that affect

the lives of their employees

Those who have no work, or who have lost their work

and are anxious about every aspect of their future

For the homeless and others who have no way to

keep social distance, those in crowded living

situations and refugees

We pray for the scientific community and all who are

funding and supporting medical breakthroughs and

we pray for a Coronavirus vaccine

We pray for local, state and federal elected officials

and workers in their discernment about next steps

and in their allocation of funds to help all in need

For families and couples who are staying at home

together. For those who are mistreated at home God

we ask for your protection and love. We pray for

families where parents cannot stay at home and need

childcare.

We pray for all students who cannot learn, and miss

their friends and for those who are graduating this

year without closure from high schools and colleges.

We pray for all who are alone and struggling with

deep loneliness and depression

We pray for all in religious and faith communities

around the world who are not able to worship and

be in fellowship together. May you be praised and

worshiped in new ways O, God.

O God we pray for all your people and all your

creation knowing that you love everyone across the

whole world in every place more than we could

possibly imagine. Give us faith and strength in you.

Help us to speak of you to those who need to know of

your love for them. Remind us constantly that you are

with each of us until the end of the age and in every

moment in the presence of Jesus Christ our risen

Lord!

Lord in your mercy. Hear our prayer. Amen.

FINANCIAL GIVING OPTIONS IN THESE TIMES

Thank you for supporting this vital ongoing ministry. The church is ministering in new ways and staying

connected. Your financial giving is ensuring that we can do all that we can in these hard times.

Here are the different ways you can continue to give financially:

1. Mail your offering to the church. The mail is checked twice a week and checks are deposited. Address is 530 W. Bonneville St. Pasco WA 99301

2. Drop your offering into the church office Mail slot. On Bonneville Ave. up the steps there is a mail slot in the door.

3. Give online by going to www.flcpasco.org Click on the Tab called ONLINE GIVING. Then click on the link to Vanco link (below)

https://gp.vancopayments.com/gpo/#/9558cc4ce95fd866235a83489f659fba It is simplest to make a One Time offering each time. To give regularly, create an account & password so that you can Sign In in the future.

After you select your choices and press Give/ Donate it allows you two options. a. Pay using a credit card – one time or on a regular basis (it is your choice whether you pay

the 2.75% processing fee. The church will pay it.) b. Automatic withdrawal from your bank account (no fee) If you click Email receipt and type in your email address, you will get the receipt immediately

If the Next button doesn’t work just check the way you entered the information.

4. Give on your Cell phone:

Downloading the App in the App Store called Give+ or Give Plus. Once you download it onto your phone you can fill in the following:

a. First Lutheran Church b. WA when it asks for the state c. Pasco (when it asks for which of the First Lutherans you want – there are several in WA)

If you need help with any of this – feel free to call the church office 509 547 4622 (it goes straight to Pastor Helga’s phone) or email the church office [email protected] where Desiree or the Pastor can answer questions, or call Linda or Paul who are our financial secretaries.

CHURCH ACTIVITIES

Book Discussion Group

A book discussion group meeting… of some kind, will be announced later for mid-June time frame.

The Noticer by Andy Andrews

The Noticer is an inspiring tale part fiction and part autobiographical filled with simple wisdom and the importance of new perspectives.

Meet Jones, a mysterious old man who has a miraculous way of showing up at just the right moment to communicate “a little perspective” and has a gift of noticing things that others miss.

Set in a small beach town in Alabama we follow Jones as he helps various locals through their personal difficulties by offering a new perspective and a way to change their view of the world.

An easy read of 156 pages this book is available electronically through some local libraries or $10 on Amazon.

“Life is a little like dessert. Keep your fork; the best is yet to come.”

“In desperate times, much more than anything else, folks need perspective.” -Jones

CONFIRMATION CLASSES

will be offered online.
