On behalf of Porsche AG and the entireBoard, I would like to thank you for yoursupport and tireless commitment. I hopeyou have a lot of fun, success and unfor-gettable moments at your Porsche Clubevents in 2009!

The first half of 2009 is now almost behindus. In the Porsche Club World, the firstevents have been held and I hope they pro-ceeded to your utmost satisfaction. I wishyou every success for all the Club eventson the calendar for the rest of the year, andwould like to thank you for your superblevel of commitment.

We at Porsche are reflecting on months ofturbulence and as you will no doubt beaware, from the press, not even Porschehas been able to escape the global down-swing in the automotive industry. In the firsthalf of 2008/09 financial year, revenue fellby 12.8 percent to 3.04 billion Euro. Salesdropped by 26.7 percent to 34,266 units.The altered model mix is the prime reasonfor revenue having developed better thansales. While the proportion of total salesaccounted for by the 911 model serieswas higher, the amount earned from theBoxster has slumped. Sales figures for the911 reached 13,543 (previous year:16,261), compared to 3,950 (previousyear: 9835) for the mid-engine sports car.During the period under review, theCayenne achieved sales of 16,773 (previ-ous year 20,638). In the second half of the2008/09 financial year, we are hoping tosee a surge in sales from both the newBoxster and Cayman models, which havebeen available at the dealers since Febru-ary, and also from the new 911 GT3 andCayenne Diesel models that were debutedin March at the Geneva Motor Show.

We celebrated the highly anticipated worldpremiere of our fourth model range, thePanamera, on the April 19, at Auto Shang-hai. The Panamera represents an entirelynew market segment for us, enabling us tocontinuously expand the range we offerour customers. The Panamera will be avail-able at our dealers from late summer. Ifthat seems too far away, let us wow youwith a very special driving experience. As

one of the first customers, you will havethe chance in July to experience thePanamera across Provence’s breathtakingscenery as part of an exclusive trip beingorganised by the Porsche Travel Club.

However, the launch and debut of our newPorsche models have not been the onlyhighlights of the past few months. The cer-emonial opening of the new Porsche Mu-seum at the end of January was, without ashadow of a doubt, a very special event forus. We are already looking forward to nu-merous visits by Porsche Club membersfrom all over the world. As a sign of our ap-preciation, we will be offering each persona discounted entry fee.

I am extremely proud to be reflecting onthe past year, during which – thanks toyour unwavering commitment – the world-wide Porsche Club scene once againturned the Porsche brand into a tangibleexperience at numerous events. I recallwith special fondness the Porsche EuropaParade in Sardinia during May 2008, whichmy wife and I attended.

In these difficult times, we need to closeranks and brave the sense of crisis! Andthat, my dear Porsche Club members, isexactly what you are doing with your proac-tive Porsche Club lives and all-out willing-ness to present and turn the Porschebrand into an experience at various Clubevents throughout 2009! As a result, wecan look forward to a host of interestingPorsche Club events throughout the world,including the USA Parade in Colorado, the356 Holiday in Japan, and the PorscheClub Deutschland annual meet in Hamburg,to name but a few.

Porsche showcases its new businesscard – after three years of construc-tion, the new museum was declaredopen in a ceremony on January 28,2009.

To open the new Porsche Museum,Stuttgart’s Mayor, Dr. Wolfgang Schusterbrought along a Stuttgart steed made ofporcelain. One more horsepower for themuseum. Addressing around 300 VIPs at theceremonial event, Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking,Chairman of the Porsche Board, said,“Here, we have our company’s history ofmercurial sports cars that are ready togo”. Part of that history belongs to thePorsche and Piëch families, the company’sexecutives, past and present works driv-ers, as well as numerous representativesfrom the economic and political sectors.

The new museum has been open to thepublic since the January 31, 2009. The

Stuttgart has a new place for lovers ofgood food: the exclusive ChristophorusRestaurant offers top class Porsche ga-stronomy.

The grill in the Christophorus museumrestaurant is the only one of its kind inEurope – it has been granted specificapproval. You see, it consists of twogrills, one fired by gas and one by char-coal. The completely revamped engines arethe main focus of this new generation.As with the 911 models, the Boxer en-gines also offer more performance forless consumption. The improvementsregarding consumption and drive per-formance have been facilitated by thePorsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe –PDK for short.

The 2.9 litre basic engine delivers 255BHP (188 kW) in the Boxster and 265BHP (195 kW) in the Cayman. This is 10and 20 BHP more than the respectivepredecessor models. With direct petrolinjection, the 3.4 litre engine in the Smodels now delivers 310 BHP (228 kW)in the Boxster S and 320 BHP (235 kW)in the Cayman S. This is an increase of15 and 25 BHP, respectively.

This duo has unparalleled capabilities. Porsche debuted the second generation of the Boxster and Cayman mid-engine sports cars at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2008.

Featuring the PDK double-clutch gear-box and the activated “Launch Control”from the optional Sport Chrono pack-age, the Cayman S accelerates from 0to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, while theBoxster with its standard six-speedmanual gearbox takes 5.9 seconds.The two-seaters are outwardly recog-nised by their restyled front and tailsections. The main halogen headlampswith integrated indicators are reminis-cent of the lights on the PorscheCarrera GT.

Courtesy of the PDK, the Boxster andthe Cayman now stay below the ninelitre mark – as regards consumption –for the first time: the models with thenew 2.9 litre Boxer engine consume8.9 litres per 100 kilometres (accord-ing to EU4; 26.4 mpg) – eleven percentless than their predecessor featuringthe Tiptronic S. The new models have been in show-rooms since February 2009. TheBoxster comes in at 38,600 Euro, theCayman at 41,700 Euro. The entryprice for the Boxster S is 46,700 Euro,for the Cayman S 51,500 Euro.

The Porsche Doppelkupplung(PDK)

The PDK enables gear shifting in a matterof milliseconds with no interruption inpower transmission. The PDK has a to-tal of seven gears; gears 1 to 6 aresports gears – top speed is reached in6th gear. The 7th gear is a high gearand brings the consumption valuesdown even further. In principle, the PDKcomprises two transmissions inte-grated into one housing. Two transmis-sions require two clutches – in this casefashioned as wet clutches running in anoil bath.

This dual clutch locks the two transmis-sion units with the engine in sequencevia two separate input shafts (inputshaft 1 running in the hollow-drilleddrive shaft 2). This means that the en-

gine’s power always flows over just onetransmission unit and one clutch, whilethe next gear in the second transmis-sion unit is already engaged. So a gearchange no longer involves shifting. In-stead, just one clutch is opened while

the other remains closed. The benefits:improved acceleration without havingto compromise the comfort of an auto-matic converter, plus a consumption re-duction of up to 15%, depending on themodel and the gearbox.

Trade fair paid flying visit by VIP: ArnoldSchwarzenegger made a surprise en-trance at the Geneva Motor Show. Theone-time actor and present governor ofCalifornia made a beeline for thePorsche stand. He was especially takenwith the new 911 GT3, which cele-brated its world premiere in Switzer-land alongside the Cayenne Diesel.Executive Vice-President Research andDevelopment Wolfgang Dürheimer andExecutive Vice-President Sales andMarketing Klaus Berning invitedSchwarzenegger to sit in the 435 BHPsports car and explained to him thebenefits of the model. The “Terminator”actor then took his leave true to form –“Hasta la vista – Auf Wiedersehen!”

The development of the 911 GT3 hasfocussed mainly on its two core charac-teristics — performance and driving dy-namics. The tried and tested six-cylin-der naturally-aspirated engine now de-livers 435 BHP (320 kW), 20 BHP morethan its predecessor. This is essentiallythe result of increasing the capacity by20 cubic centimetres to 3.8 litres andthe improved charge exchangeprocess; now, not only the inlet cam-shafts, but also the outlet camshaftscan be adjusted courtesy of the Vario-Cam system. Additionally, the increasedpower of the Boxer engine offers ahigher torque in the mid revs range,which is clearly noticeable during every-day driving. The new GT3 also deliverseven higher performance. It acceler-

The advanced development of the 911GT3 also focussed on improving drivingdynamics. For the first time, the vehiclefeatures a particularly sporty, tunedversion of the Porsche Stability Manage-ment (PSM). This lateral dynamic controlsystem allows Stability Control (SC) andTraction Control (TC) to be switched offgradually. To guarantee the driver unre-stricted, autonomous control over theGT3’s driving dynamics, the functionsare not automatically reactivated evenin extreme driving situations; instead abutton needs to be pressed.

The new GT3 offers even better road-holding and stability at higher speeds.Detailed aerodynamic modifications haveincreased output on both the front andback axles to such an extent that the sur-face pressure is more than twice that onthe predecessor model. The new aerody-namic package lends the GT3 a newappearance, additionally emphasised by

new Bi-Xenon headlamps, LED tail lightsand revamped air inlets and outlets.

The active PASM chassis on the 911GT3 enabled the Porsche engineers tomake the springs and stabilisers an-other touch stiffer, the result beingeven more precise handing in PASMsport mode. Nonetheless, the everydaycontinuous travel comfort in PASM nor-mal mode remains intact. New, lighterwheels in the racing sport design withcentral locking and UHP tyres (UltraHigh Performance) – now with tyre-pressure monitoring system – top offthe functional and visual advanced de-velopment of the GT3.

Along with driving dynamics, Porschehas also traditionally developed thebraking power of the 911 GT3. The brakediscs now consist of a larger friction discwith a lighter aluminium calliper. In addi-tion, the improved brake ventilationguarantees higher continuous brakingperformance. A GT3-exclusive versionof the PCCB ceramic brake is also avail-able on request.

From autumn, the new GT3 will be of-fered with another option that makes iteven more suitable for the race circuit –the new and highly innovative enginebearings PADM (Porsche Active Drive-train Mount). It detects a racing drivestyle and stiffens the usually flexibleengine mount. This means that whilethe GT3 remains comfortable for every-day use, the engine makes no disrup-tive mass impulses as it traverses thebends on the race circuit. Anotherbenefit is the improved traction whenaccelerating from a standstill. Anothernew feature is the optional lift systemfor the front axle, which is able to raiseground clearance by 30 millimetres atthe touch of a button for driving on un-

Porsche 911 GT3 Cup: 214 vehicles ready

It is the world’s most popular motor sports vehicle — no other pedigree racing carhas had as many units produced as the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Since September2008, 214 units of the 420 BHP vehicle have been produced for the worldwidePorsche Brand Cup. This car was built in Zuffenhausen alongside the GT3 Cup S forlong-distance racing, both of which conform to FIA-GT3 rules. Completely unique:Alongside the road-approved Porsche 911, three racing cars are built every day bythe same workers on the assembly line at the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen main productionfactory. The front comfort seats, supplied asstandard in the Panamera S and 4S,have a sporty design and eight electri-cal adjustment settings for outstandingride comfort. In the rear, two individualseats with folding centre arm rest offerplenty of leg and head room, even forthe taller passenger. In the PanameraTurbo, electrical seat adjustment iscombined with a comfort memorypackage comprising a seat cushionlength adjustment, lumbar supportsand an electric steering column adjust-ment. Other alternatives, including theadaptive sports seat or electric multi-adjustable rear comfort seat are alsoavailable on request.

The new Panamera is the first Porscheto offer the most supreme standard ofhigh-end audio quality – the optionalHigh-End Surround Sound-System cour-tesy of Burmester in Berlin, one of theworld’s most respected high-end audiomanufacturers. Never before has solarge an acoustically effective mem-brane surface been designed during avehicle’s concept phase and now re-alised in a standard production vehicle.Over 2400 square centimetres projectsuch sound quality that it almost feelslike you’re at a live concert. Fitted with its six-speedmanual gearbox as standard, thePanamera S retails at a price of Euro94,575, again including 19 per cent VATand all national homologation features.

This all-wheel drivesprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 sec-onds. The Turbo’s top speed is 303 km/h.The standard fuel consumption is 12.2l/100 km (19.3 mpg), CO2 emission 286g/km. The price, including country-spe-cific equipment and VAT is 135,154 Euro.

Spectacular scene in a skyscraper: Porsche takes it to the limit

No vehicle has ever made it thishigh at its world premiere! On theApril 19, a first summit meeting washeld between international journal-ists and the Panamera on the 94thfloor of the Shanghai World Finan-cial Center. Then, at “Auto Shang-hai”, the public experienced theGran Turismo with its increasedground covering performance.

Extraordinary cars deserve extraordi-nary action. For this reason, the Panamerawas unveiled to a world audience 425metres above the streets of China’smetropolis Shanghai. No other carmaker has ever been allowed to pres-ent a vehicle on the 94th floor of theShanghai World Financial Centre(SWFC). The privilege called for a logis-tical tour de force. Transporting thePanamera to these heady heights tookmillimetre precision in the express ele-vator. The vehicle was set down verti-

cally on a specially prepared platform,and additionally secured with hoists.The clearance to the side of the doorswas less than two centimetres. The pic-tures below show the car’s spectacularjourney to the highest event stage inthe world.

At 492 metres, this building, with itsstriking bottle-opener architecture, isthe tallest skyscraper in Asia and thethird tallest in the world.

With a hard-fought triumph at the 24-hour Daytona race (24 and 25 Jan., 2009),Porsche paid fresh testimony to its roleas the most successful constructor inthe history of this long-distance classic.On the Daytona International Speed-way, the 47th edition of the traditionalprelude to the Grand-Am series waswon by David Donohue, Darren Law,Buddy Rice and Antonio Garcia in thePorsche Riley by Brumos Racing, se-curing a 21st overall victory forPorsche.

Porsche was also unbeatable in the GTclass, with the 911 GT3 Cup winning aconfident hat-trick. Jörg Bergmeister,Patrick Long, Andy Lally, RJ Valentineand Justin Marks rode to victory in theTRG Team’s Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

The 911 GT3 RSR Teams had less luckin the Sebring 12-hour race. After a col-lision in the opening phase, the previ-ous year’s winner from the Flying LizardTeam lost twelve minutes during a pitstop for essential repairs. Jörg Berg-meister, Patrick Long and Marc Liebthen completed one fastest lap afteranother, wowing the spectators by sen-sationally trying to catch-up with thefrontrunners. The Porsche Teams, who will be on theblocks on the 13th and 14th of June2009 at the 24-hour Le Mans race, arenot expected to gain overall victory butare hoping to win their classes.

The two RS Spyders from the EssexTeam (Denmark) and Goh (Japan) will beattempting to repeat last-year’s LMP2double victory. Porsche Motorsport willbe providing support in the form ofworks drivers Emmanuel Collard andSascha Maassen.

Last November, Club Presidents from atotal of 25 European countries ac-cepted the invitation from the centralPorsche Club Coordination Team to at-tend the European Presidents’ Meet inStuttgart.

“This annual event is very important forus”, explained Sandra Mayr, TeamLeader of Porsche Club Coordination.“It offers us an ideal platform to be-come mutually acquainted and gives usample opportunity to exchange ideas.In various workshops, a number of is-sues are explored and potential proce-dures discussed and devised. Theseare implemented after the events to

continue to support Porsche Clubs allover the world and further improve thecooperation”.

The detailed results from the EPCC2008 workshops can be found in frompage 24 of this issue.

One particular highlight at EPCC 2008was the unplanned presence of twoBoard Members of the Porsche Club ofAmerica, the world’s largest PorscheClub, who were guests in Zuffenhausenat the time of the EPCC. The PorscheClub Coordination Team immediatelytook the initiative, inviting both BoardMembers to the workshops to swapknowledge and share thoughts withpeople from all around the world.

It goes without saying that the activitieshave to be accompanied by an appro-priate support programme. Alongsidean exclusive guided site tour by con-struction project manager ChristinaBecker (the delegates were the veryfirst group to be allowed to visit the mu-seum under construction), there was

also a plant tour and lunch in the Casinoin Zuffenhausen. On the second day, anexcursion with 29 Porsche 911 wasmade to Maulbronn. After more intenseactivities in the workshop, the day wascompleted with dinner in Stuttgart’s“Cube” restaurant looking out over thecity’s roofs.

This season, ten races will be held inthe USA and Canada. Traditionally, thehigh points are the 12 hours from Se-bring and the 1000 mile race known as“Petit Le Mans” in Road Atlanta. Most ofthe races last 2.45 hours. The ALMS isthe American counterpart to the LeMans Series (LMS) in Europe.

The starting field comprises two sportsvehicle categories: sports prototypesand standard production sports cars.

All racing cars start at the same time,though are separately rated accordingto category. This system guarantees di-verse, thrilling races packed with over-taking manoeuvres. Points are onlyawarded for being placed in the respec-

tive categories. Since the American LeMans Series was founded in 1999,Porsche has been on the starting lineevery year with racing versions of thePorsche 911 and has now won ninedriver and nine constructor champi-onships. This makes Porsche the mostsuccessful manufacturer in the ALMSby far.

The “Porscheplatz” in Sebring:The “Porscheplatz” is a successful jointproject between Porsche Cars NorthAmerica, the Porsche Club of America(PCA) and 13 Porsche dealers, in thiscase from the state of Florida. On Fri-day, March 20, and Saturday March 21,the “Porscheplatz” was fully booked.The hospitality platform not only

enables Porsche Club members andPorsche owners to park their Porschein a designated parking area andPorsche dealers to present the latestPorsche product range, but alsooffers ample space for social net-working and exchanging ideas. Clubmembers can also take a rest andfollow television broadcasts and racereports on large screens. This is also anexcellent opportunity for like-mindedpeople to socialise.

The 200 Porsche vehicles, and their en-thusiastic owners as guests, made afantastic picture. In total, more than700 Club members visited “Porsche-platz” – the highest visitor figure since“Porscheplatz” was established.

Porsche Sports CupDeutschlandThe German Porsche Sports Cup hasmarked the start the new 2009 season inthe last weekend of April. The first raceof the Porsche customer racing sportseries was held on the Formula 1 circuitat the Nürburgring. This year will alsosee six events on five different circuits– Nürburgring, Hockenheimring, Motor-sport Arena Oschersleben, EuroSpeed-way Lausitz and the Belgian Spa-Fran-corchamps. The Porsche Sports Cupcomprises a total of six licence-free se-ries, as well as other series subject tolicence conditions, which are open toboth vehicles approved for road useand those with racing modifications.

The GT3 Cup Challenge Deutschland(GT3CC), which ranks as the top seriesin the Porsche Sports Cup, will be cele-brating its premiere in 2009. The

GT3CC is to be rolled out throughoutEurope and acts as an additional link tothe Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland(PCCD). The rules for the GT3CC arebased on those for the PCCD and theraces form an independent series. Iden-tical Cup vehicles 911 GT3 Cup (model997), model year 2009, will be puttingtheir motorsport skills to the test.Other Cup vehicles from model year2008, modified to satisfy the rules, willalso be approved for the GT3CC. Thecockpits of the powerful 911 GT3 Cupvehicles won’t be occupied by profes-sionals, but by experienced amateursports drivers who hold at least a na-tional C-Licence.

The championship title in the GT3 CupChallenge Deutschland has gainedeven more kudos thanks to a specialaward — the winner can take part as aguest in the final race of the Porsche

Ice Force

Members of the Porsche Club Singapore and the Porsche ClubIstanbul are guests at “Ice Force”, the Porsche Sport DrivingSchool event in Ivalo, Finland

Porsche Club Singapore

In February 2009, seven membersof the Porsche Club Singaporetook part in the Porsche Ice Forcetraining event near Ivalo in northernFinland, an area famous for viewingthe northern lights during clearwinter nights.

The journey from Singapore (1° degreenorth of the equator) to Ivalo (69° de-grees north of the equator) presented achallenge purely from knowing what towear. Typical temperatures in Ivalo fluc-tuate between –10 °C and –25 °C! Ourgroup stayed in Saariselka and wasdriven every day to the Porsche wintertraining area, situated on a frozen lakejust a few minutes away.

The training vehicles were a 911 TurboTiptronic, a 997 C4S with PDK, a 997C2S with PDK and a manual transmis-sion Cayman S. The vehicles wereequipped with special spikes, whichpermitted better control and higherspeeds on the ice track. There wereeight different circuits, from the driftingcircuit to the slow circuits through tothe fast course with an emphasis onmaximizing driving time.

Each practice session lasted 90 min-utes and was completed by the wholegroup in the same model. There was

one vehicle for every two participants ineach case. A different model was usedfor each practice session. Our instruc-tor helped us become much better ac-quainted with each model and improveour skills on snow and ice.

This was the first chance many of ushad to explore the limits of the newelectronically controlled Porsche Trac-tion Management system in the all-wheel drive cars, even though some ofus own these cars at home. Under iceconditions the effectiveness of this sys-tem was soon very evident.

The event was organised in typicalPorsche fashion – efficient and friendlyas always.

After successfully completingCamp4 and Camp4S (4 times!),seven members of the Porsche ClubIstanbul set out for the Porsche IceForce Training.

We were able to test our limits on afrozen lake in a 911 Turbo, Carrera 4S,Carrera S and a Cayman S.

Each learning unit offered us new expe-riences and enhanced our existing skills.Brakes, load changes, course changesand side drifts – like masters of ourtrade, we drove the cars on ice wherewalking would have been difficult.

Thanks to our instructor and his expert-ise, we learned a lot about driving dy-namics and about how obedient aPorsche can be, even in the mostextreme winter conditions.

“Ice Force” was perfectly organised,offered a lot of time for driving andgave us the chance to test our skills un-der extremely diverse conditions.

Porsche Club Steiermark and Porsche Club Wien were guestsat “Camp4S”, the Porsche Travel Club event in Rovaniemi,Finland

Where is and who actually knowsRovaniemi? This is the question several members of the PorscheClub Steiermark asked themselvesbefore Christmas.

Just a few weeks later, they had theanswer and we hovered – in the truesense of the word – high above theArctic Circle in Finland.

Low temperatures of below –20 °Cguaranteed creaky, cold snow and blueglittering ice. Exactly the right condi-tions for pushing the law of drivingphysics to its limits. Vehicle control onsnow and ice is an acquired skill.

In the Arctic Driving Center, we driftedthrough the different sections in the911 Carrera 4 and the 4S with such joy.Although various winter training ses-sions and drift challenges in Austria hadtaught us well, driving in such condi-tions as these made us feel like wewere learning to drive again. For sev-eral hours, we alternated between drifttechniques such as downhill drifts, dou-ble 8 drifts and load change drifts.

Various handling courses and the“Arctic Northern Loop” then revealedour the true level of our mastery. The

training day always ended with a broadgrin. So we learned something and wenever ceased to be amazed at the per-fection and technical maturity of thesevehicles that we hold in such high es-teem. They dealt easily with the drivers’remaining weaknesses with forgivenessand tolerance.

Porsche Club Wien

A very pleasant delegation fromthe Austrian Clubs, mainly from the Porsche Club Vienna, flew toFinland, to Rovaniemi on the ArcticCircle to be precise, to learn thePorsche “drift driving” technique.

After a stop in Helsinki and about fourand a half hours travel time, wereached Europe’s largest city by sur-face area, with a population of just un-der 54,000, some of whom are worldfamous for winter sports athletes.

Nothing could outperform the partici-pants’ enthusiasm for the hospitalityand support shown by Porsche, exceptperhaps, the 997 Carrera 4 or 4S,which was placed at our disposal forthe next three days.

We have all learned a great deal. Onday three, the steering wheel becamesuperfluous and the Porsche was moreor less controlled by just the accelera-tor pedal. It is unbelievable how sensi-tive you become to the line and howprecisely and tightly the Porsche couldbe turned into the apex of a bend!

The section where we were allowed todrive the new 997 2. Generation withPDK transmission was also a fantasticexperience. This new version is ofcourse more compact and better de-signed; it simply feels quite different.

However, the drift driving technique hasto be relearnt again. We were only ableto guess, at least in the short time wehad to test it, at the potential of the newtransmission and new electronic clutch.It is incredibly precise and always goesto where the front wheels are pointing.After three days, we have everythingunder control and are on our way to dis-cover new dimensions!

A fantastic event overall, including thesupport programme. Highly recom-mended for all members – perfect!

Porsche Club Mexico

The Porsche Club Mexico awarded by the “Mexicana Federation of Sporting Cars”The Porsche Club Mexico has re-ceived the coveted “Silver Helmet”award from the Mexican Federationof Sporting Cars (FEMADAC). Theaward was conferred by the “Vin-tage National Commission”, chairedby Francisco Moreno.

It was given for the “Best DynamicEvent” category, in recognition of theexcellent organisation behind thePorsche Parade Mexico 2008. The Pa-rade was held on the October 5, andfeatured a total of 253 Porsches of var-ious years and models. The event also

registered a record number of partici-pants, for the third year in a row.

The meeting point was the inside areaof the Race Americas Course in MexicoCity. The vehicles were registered andplaced into six different categories de-pending on age and model year.

The President of the Porsche ClubMexico, Manuel Roblesgil Antillon andthe Managing Director of PorscheMexico, Fernando Flores Beristáin,welcomed the Club members and allthe enthusiastic participants who helpedsupport the event.

The 20 year anniversary of the PorscheClub Mexico was also celebrated at thisevent. The Porsche Club CoordinationTeam was represented by MathiasMenner, who gave the opening address.The Porsche Club Mexico thanked allformer presidents and founding mem-bers for their excellent organisationand enthusiasm at the 2008 Parade.

These ceremonies complete, the 253Porsches made their way to the “Her-manos Rodríguez” racing circuit, havingto cross Mexico City’s main road net-work in the process. We all reconvenedin the “S” zone for the traditional photocall of the Parade. The convoy was leadby a Rothmans Porsche 962 bearingstarting number “1”.

We then assembled in the pit lane and,in groups of 40 Porsche vehicles, alltook to the racing circuit for a sensa-tional parade.

Porsche Club United Arab Emirates

“Drive to Fujairah”

Friday March 13, 2009 saw a thrilling event held by the PorscheClub UAE.

It was a clear, sunny day with an eager72 people, including Club Committeeand members of the Porsche Club UAE,gathered in the Dome Cafe in Dubai forcheck-in, a relaxed breakfast, a brief in-troduction to the day’s route and a fewconvoy rules. At precisely 10 o’ clock,the sound of 37 Porsche engines froma vast range of models was heard andthe group moved off towards the “HiltonFujairah”. The stunning route was en-joyed by all, as the cars were serpentingtheir way through the desert, then along

the winding Hajjar Mountain roads lead-ing to the emirate of Fujairah (see map).

The group made a brief, enjoyable stopin the middle of the desert. Club mem-bers were able to mingle with wild ca-mels and enjoy the scenery of themountain range. The second scheduledstop was along the Indian Ocean, ha-ving passed through the longest tunnelin the gulf region that took us straightthrough the mountains to the Arab Emi-rate’s east coast.

Arriving at the hotel, the group receiveda warm welcome and a cold cocktail.During the elegant lunch, members

took part in a Porsche Quiz. Then theywent either to the pool or to the beachto enjoy the sunshine, which of coursewas very popular with those who hadbrought their children along.

At 4:30pm the group gathered again tohit the same roads back to Dubai andended the day with some sundownerdrinks, snacks and conversations withnew friendships resulting from theevent.

Porsche Club Great Britain

Porsche Club Great Britain at Autosport International,Birmingham, January 8 –11, 2009Porsche Club Great Britain was in-vited to take a stand in the PistonHeads Hall of this year’s AutosportInternational at the NEC.

The Club was asked to provide a dis-play showing the evolution of the 911.The plan was to show 25 cars, but inthe end 42 911s provided by Clubmembers were collected and placed onshow for the four days of the event.Given that we only perched on a cornerof a trader’s stand last year, and haddone little at all prior to that, this wassomething of a leap for the organisersin the Club. The show is the largest mo-tor sport exhibition in Europe, and at-tracts nearly 85,000 visitors.

As Club Chairman Martyn Molyneauxconfirms, it went well: “‘What a greatshow’, ‘A fantastic display of cars,’ and‘A credit to the Club’. These were allcomments that were music to the earsof the directors and all those whoworked so hard to make the AutosportInternational Show at the NEC in Janu-ary a great success. Just about everymodel of the 911 was present, goingfrom the first right-hand drive 911 im-ported into the UK through to a 997GT2 and 997 GT3 RS. A very big thankyou goes to all the members and own-ers who loaned us their cars for thefour days, and without whom our dis-play would not have been possible”

Alongside the “911 Evolution” display,the Club’s presence was focused aroundthe Race Centre, with some competitioncars from the Club Championship andCarrera Cup. Club Shop was on hand, newmembers were signed up and volun-teers served refreshments throughout.

And to complement the major exhibits,there was proof that Porsche owner-

ship doesn’t have to be expensive. AsGeoff Ives told the press, “We’ve founda 924 S for the show, well within the£1,000 budget, and it’s stunning, withonly 55,000 miles on the clock. It coststhe current owner only £80 a year forinsurance, and will average over 30mpgon a long run, so isn’t necessarily ex-pensive to run. Factor in the driving funand great Club social scene, and owninga Porsche can be hugely satisfying.”

Porsche Cars used the event to promotethe Carrera Cup Great Britain and, in

conjunction with the Club and PorscheMotorsport, formally announced theGT3 Cup Challenge, to be run by theClub next year.

There was icing on the cake too, as, atthe end of the show, Porsche CarsGreat Britain was awarded the prize for“Best Stand”.

“Porsche Junior” Project

Under the patronage of Dr. Wolf-gang Porsche, “Porsche Junior”was developed early in 2007 tobecome a success project.

The Club “Projekt Porsche Diesel e.V.”(PPD), has developed a project in col-laboration with Porsche Diesel Club Eu-ropa e.V. with the motto “From lethargyto creativity”. People of all ages are in-volved in the project, working on a tech-nical challenge – the restoration of his-torical tractors.

The “Porsche Junior” project is open toall schools and other institutions. It isnow running at 41 educational estab-lishments, one of which is in Lana,South Tyrol. We have already reachedover 600 students who learn with en-thusiasm and who “grasp” in the truestsense of the word how they can get ac-quainted with simple technology in ateam.

The organisers are also highly moti-vated and committed – “technical at-tendants”, or in other words expertsfrom among the Club members, sup-port the institutions.

As well as craftsmanship and the socialaspects between the generations, akey element of the project is that thework is documented. This is importantbecause documentation and certifi-cates help later in the search for ap-

Since the1940’s, the fictional “Red Zora” hasbeen known as a ring leader who helpsoutcast children and raises awarenessof injustices and discrimination throughself-assured and bold escapades. “Dierote Zora und ihre Bande” [The RedZora and her Gang] is now a classicamong youth literature. This is the firstproject in which only young women par-ticipate, demonstrating their talent andskill on the Porsche tractors.

prenticeships. In a number of schools,project participants gained a trainingplace by virtue of the documentation.

The project is designed to make youngpeople trainable at an early stage andto show them that learning and workingcan be fun. Every contribution made to-wards preparing for a career, even dur-ing schooling, will later prove to be asuccessful tool when starting out.

One particular project is running suc-cessfully at the “BWB (Berlin Work-shops for the Disabled”) – this is a na-tionwide pilot project. The “Porsche Ju-nior” project, started as a collaborationbetween Porsche Diesel Club Europae.V. (PDCE), the BWB, the Lions ClubBerlin Meilenwerk, the Berlin Automo-bile Guild and Gewerbesiedlungs-Gesellschaft mbH (ORGO GSG), was thefirst project of its kind in Berlin. Tenyoung people will help restore an old,broken Porsche classic tractor, aPorsche Junior, back to health.

“The interest from young people was soimmense that we could easily have de-ployed a team of 50 or more staff”, ex-plains Dr. Much, CEO of BWB. “But thework on a tractor like this and the phys-ical space are limited, so we had to de-cide on a small manageable team.Everything was geared to the momentwhen we could start work on the highlyprized object”. “In BWB, we found anoutstanding partner for the pilot projectin Berlin. Through this partnership, wewant to express our appreciation forthe welfare work being done in thisworkshop”, says Harald S. Stegen,President of Porsche Diesel Club Eu-ropa e.V.

Retro Classics Stuttgart

The organisers reported a recordnumber of visitors to the ninth RetroClassics exhibition in Stuttgart,held for the second time on the newairport exhibition ground during the weekend of the March 12 to the15, 2009. According to data from the exhibition centre, the eventattracted over 57,000 visitors, ex-ceeding last year’s result by around15 percent.

The Porsche Classic Clubs Deutschlandshared a stand and presented fiveclassic Porsche models, all in top con-dition.

As well as providing information andadvice, the Clubs also focussed onattracting and supporting members.

The Porsche Clubs exhibition team washighly satisfied with visitor interest, andis already looking forward to the tenthRetro Classics next year. International

awareness of the Classics exhibitionhas finally been raised, as evidenced byvisitors and exhibitors from some 15countries. There were new exhibitors

from the Netherlands, Hungary andBelgium and visitors were welcomedfrom neighbouring Switzerland, Austria,France and Luxembourg. The stands inthe eight exhibition halls also receivedvisitors from the Czech Republic,Russia, Poland, Britain, Portugal, Mex-ico, Indonesia and Dubai.

“The Retro Classics has without doubtestablished itself as the central meet-ing point for the classic scene in south-ern Germany, and word is getting outeven further beyond”, said UlrichHerrmann, Retro Classics Organiser.

The date for the next Retro Classics,which is the tenth and therefore an an-niversary event, has already been set.It will be held from the March 11 to the14, 2010 at the new exhibition centreat the airport, the 11th being thespecial “Preview Day” for trade visitorsand journalists.
