I hope you are all managing to fit rides amongst the darkness

and wet weather. No daylight savings can make things a little

tricky at times!

TTT Combined Training is over for another year. It was a really

fun day with some highs and lows for our members – all the gos-

sip and results are in the report further along in the newslet-

ter.

The last rally ran smoothly. It was a lovely day weather wise,

with the sun coming out to play. To add a little chaos, Hurst-

bridge Pony Club was holding their annual camp so Wandin was

overrun with little people and fluffy ponies. Certainly made

Cross country quite interesting with groups of honing ponies

passing by from time to time!

Entries for TTT Horse Trials open on the 20th of May, so get

your logs filled or cards verified and get your entries into me

asap. Send to 70 Harberts Road Don Valley 3139. The actual

competition is on the weekend of 30th and 31st of July. The

competition will run over TWO days so make sure you mark

them both off on your calendar. Now is the time to be getting

our horses fit, not just arena fit either!! Do some gallop work

and endurance work to give them a fighting chance on the day.

On my front, I have now completed two horse trials events with

Archie in the last month. He placed 7th and 6th which is a huge

achievement seeing as these are the only horse trials either of

us have done in our lives!!!! I think he is really enjoying the

jumping side of things.

Andy has been training solidly and I am feeling confident that

he is finally mentally maturing. Still a few little bumps to iron

out here and there, but on the whole looking good!!

The recent General meeting was a fairly poor show of numbers

from our members which was a shame. We discussed some im-

portant issues some of which will be brought to the table again

at the AGM in October. Please try to attend that meeting.

Until next time happy riding,

Meg

Rally Day

9th May 2011

Jenny Parlevliet was my in-structor for my showjump-ing lesson in the April Rally, the others in my lesson were Katie Classon and Kendal Etches. It is only my second Rally and i haven't done showjumping properly for quite a while so I was excited. We started off with a warm-up and trotted over a few x-rails. It was the end of the day so Sooky was feeling very lazy and lethargic along with the other two horses. Sooky likes to do a few little bucks at the beginning of a lesson just after I've saddled up so after he got his bucks

out Jenny popped the fences up a little higher. All three of us were jumping really well and after a while we started doing little courses. It was really great to be jumping well and I was feeling pretty confident, Jenny was a great instructor and we all finished on a good note. I need to work on a few things like not pulling Sooky up so much before a fence and being more confi-dent when approaching the fence. Overall I had a good lesson jumping and want to thank Jenny for her help!

TTT COMBINED TRAINING WRAP UP REPORT by MEG STAFFORD THE CHEERS AND THE TEARS!!! In the lead up to the event, we had 3 teams of 4 competitors, but 2 weeks out from the event Sharyn Symonds was laid up in hospital with an infected leg, so we ended up with one of our teams 1 man down. Kris Allsop and Sky blink did a great dressage test; however had 10 penalties and a lit-tle time in the show jumping. They finished in 6th place – what a great start to the day! Anita Nathan and Baron were 6th after dressage. Although I personally did not see the test, one comment from an onlooker was “it was a pleasure to watch” – the judge obvi-ously agreed! One rail show jumping and they crept up to 5th. Barb and Shelly again did a super dressage test, finishing 4th after that discipline. The common sound of the day, 1 rail and unfortunately they dropped to 7th place. Sue and Harvey did a blinder of a dressage test with the judge agreeing sitting them in 2nd place (yep I think you can confidently say that you have dressage licked with this horse Sue). Clear sj meant they got to stay there! Greg and his big chestnut hunter were sitting midfield after dressage, but a clear round saw them climb to 8th place – well done. Archie and I did an ok dressage test, sitting midfield, but again one damn sj rail and we popped down to 12th place. In the dressage warm up, Peta’s horse Jimmy looked fit, and dare I say it, a tad hot? He got his mind on the job though and put together a really nice test. The judge, however, was a little stingy with her marks and had them sitting mid field after dressage. After a super clear round though, they finished in 4th place! Ian and the whore (as she is affectionately known!) did a superb test, but unfortunately were eliminated in the show jumping. Lucy was midfield after dressage and picked up some time penalties and a rail show jumping which pushed them to 13th place. Nicole and Tremayne started the day well sitting in 7th place after dressage. A show jumping round that they would both prefer to forget I am sure and 6 rails down put them down to 14th place. Julie and Dougie also didn’t have the best day. They were sitting midfield after dres-sage and then were eliminated in the show jumping after a mishap with a jump. The end results for our teams were The Russian and her Dolls were eliminated, The Wandin Park Late Great Ones were 36th and Spot the Odd One Out were 8th. Well done to everyone who competed. The day was a fun one and you all did the club

proud!

H O O F P R I N T S

We all take great care with our health and our animals health, we have our cars serviced regularly but how

many of us check the health and safety of the float that we regularly ask our trusting friends to travel in. I would

like to share a little story with you all if I may.

I am married to a very pedantic Dutchman who often drives me to distraction but who I love and wouldn ’ t be

without, his name is “ Alex ” , this story involves him.

Many years ago I took delivery of my first pre-loved float, much excitement on my part and head shaking on his.

It was sound but had seen better days cosmetically. Alex arrived to do an inspection and make up a list of work

required to bring it up to scratch. First and foremost on his list was a ride in the float, I was sure he was having

me on but no this man who knows nothing about horses insisted that if I intended putting horses in “ that

thing ” he needed to make sure it was comfortable for them. There were to be no rattles, squeaks, gales blow-

ing in or any strange noises of any sort along with a good solid floor so that they would feel safe.

So of I drove with Alex hanging on to the centre divider, well he certainly had a list after that trip, short though it

was, I must mention he drew the line at wearing the tail bandage, the float boots were as far as he was pre-

pared to go. I couldn ’ t resist a bit of fun either, so had him hanging on for dear life on a couple of occasions,

but made sure I was on a nice quiet road, I didn ’ t want to kill him after all, who would fix the float then!

Alex ’ s comment after his trip “ I couldn ’ t stand it in there for any more than 5 mins how can you expect a

horse to cope with that! ” , how many of you actually know what your horses have to cope with when they are in

their float often for quite long trips.

No horse was going anywhere till that float was draught free, rattle free and squeak free, thank god for Clark

Rubber they have a great range of rubber thingy ’ s that are great for this.

Trust me that was the first of many trips for him to see how his handy work was going, I soon got over the ex-

citement of having a float, hearing that familiar yell from the garage ” Jules come on let ’ s go ” but my horses

must have thanked him every time they got in it.

So come on guys and check out your float for the comfort and sanity of your trusty steed and ask yourself

would I like to travel around in that, would I feel safe and secure, or would I feel like the floor was going to col-

lapse at any moment or that I was going to get blown away by the gale force wind coming in through broken

windows or side panels.

OUR HORSES GIVE SO MUCH TO US,

LET ’ S GIVE BACK A LITTLE.

HAPPY RIDING

Subcommittee Report

As you read this edition of the newsletter entries for this event have now opened. Last month I asked you to advise us if you are going to ride at the event and to date there have only been a few responses. If you are planning on riding can you advise us ASAP as we need to advise Werribee of our own club numbers so that we can set an area aside before they start allocating yards to other competitors. The other thing we would like from all members is a prize of some sort to go in the lucky envelope competition. Rather than a traditional raffle we are going to have 400 envelopes each with a prize inside. The cost of each envelope will be $10, so this competition will raise $4000 in funds for our club. Just bring your contribution to the rally and we will have a box for you to put your item in. Please don’t just ig-nore this request. It is $$ in the bank that will help to keep your lesson costs at rally to a minimum so if everyone contributes we would be very appreciative. Since the last report we have secured further sponsorship. See the official website for a complete list of sponsors. Money from sponsors is hard to get but we have se-cured some fantastic products for prizes and the lucky envelope comp. Given the huge amount of sponsorship to date the showbags for competitors will have plenty to go into them. We have organized a showbag packing night up at the clubrooms (woolshed at Wandin park) for Friday 22nd July. This is the only opportu-nity for members to get the $25 working bee levy back if you are not planning on coming to werribee to help run this event. More details in the next newsletter but pencil it in your diaries so you don’t double book. If you are planning on coming to the event and staying down there Nic has got onto some great accommodation for around $50 per night. If interested contact Nic by email or phone. Well that’s about it for now…….if you are still wanting to get on board and give us a hand to help run the event just let us know, the more the merrier!! Look forward to hearing from you all with your contributions to the lucky envelope comp and entries to the event. Happy riding and training Sharyn & Nic

Dirty Laundry any-

one?? Apparently his name is now Goblin.

Wonder how long that

will last??

With the wet weather now upon us, I have heard a few rumors of members quitting riding?? Have you heard of an indoor?? Or perhaps a Jacket,

thick socks?? A stiff drink after the ride, or maybe before??

I know its cold, wet windy, short daylight hours. Really? Quit riding because of a bit of winter

weather? Disappointed.

What happened to being hardy.. Nikes slogan.. ‘Just Do It”. Or maybe ‘Suck it up Princess”

At least we cant complain about it being too hot.

When the root veges are lovely and tender, throw in about 300g of

Serve with beautiful bread rolls...with lashings of butter.

Oh and you'll need to eat this with a fork, not a spoon....perfect rainy
