2011 Kentucky Equine Research Top Team Trophy Horse Trials

We have a website up and running http://tttht2011.webs.com/ and a dedicated email address for me the Event Secretary tttht2011@gmail.com

Administratively, Sharyn and I are overseeing a few things such as the trophies and rugs, along with lots of odd bod things. Another member Sue Symonds, via her new business Valley Horse Wear has been able to source some fantastic rugs from Overseas and it looks like we’ll be offering a rug and hood set for every section winner and the team winners which is absolutely fantastic!

Entries will open Mid May and Close on July 1st so still a few months till things really get fired up. The only thing that we are lacking on which would free up Sharyn would be a Volunteer coordinator. If anyone within the club would be inter-ested in helping out, it’s a job that really only comes in to effect in the last month and on the weekend, so a brief but can be intense period juggling people around riding times etc to ensure all helper duties are covered.

Closer to the weekend we will be putting a call out to members to confirm whether they will be able to attend Werribee to help on the weekend be it for 1 or both days. The office will also be opening Friday afternoon for competitors getting there early to hand cards in etc.

There are a number of jobs, mostly in the lovely warm office that we will need some help with. If any of you guys have any queries or might be interested in helping out just let Shaz or I know.

Hi to all our members,

Now if you didn’t know we were running TTT Horse Trials 2011 you must have been hiding under a rock somewhere as this I think has got to be one of the biggest things Wandin ARC has done in a while.

As I sit here and write this we are 22 ¾ weeks away from kick off, 159 days, 228,960 minutes away!!! It’s starting to become very real now and we are well on our way to pulling off a fabulous event.

We have secured a major sponsor, being

Kentucky Equine Research.

This is a huge weight off our shoulders as the major sponsor is the “big get” and really nothing moves forward without it. Kerryn Swaine and Katie Classon, our sponsorship dynamic duo, are doing a fabulous job with other sponsors who have come on board as well.

Each of our sub committees are moving along well, catching up together for their own little mini meetings to attack their list of jobs.

The XC team have been in contact with the course designer and accreditor.

We are lucky that the XC will be walk in walk out, already flagged and numbered, we don’t even have to pack it up! They are busy getting quotes on nifty little run about Gaitors to make the job of picking up score sheets etc much easier.

The SJ committee are in the process of working out the best $ value for judges, there are a couple of different options in regards to how our judges and designers are structured.

The dressage committee have most of the required judges booked and thinking of ways to spruce up the arena’s with plants etc. They have also decided to implement the addition of a prize system for the dressage phase within the Horse Trials to offer a 1st, 2nd and 3rd for each level, giving people that extra bit of opportunity to win something.

We have some great Saturday night entertainment with Will and Emily putting on an Eventing Masterclass for us. This should be a super opportunity for some great training tips to be passed on in a real time environment with Showjumps and XC setup for them to train over whilst teaching the crowd. There will also be dinner on offer, most likely a roast type of spread, ensuring the crowd’s aren’t left hungry.

Our Ad for Chaff Chat should be completed soon and will now go in the April, May and June Chaff Chat’s, so keep an eye out for it as I’m sure many of you are thinking about competing. Let’s see if we can have Wandin retain the almighty HT winning crown!!

Can you believe we are already at the end of February…….What Summer?!? I hope this month’s newsletter finds you and your fur family all really well, and rearing (pardon the pun) and ready to go with your horse(s) for the rest of the year and that you’ve recovered from the madness that is Christmas & New Year’s for so many! More importantly, I hope Santa came through with the goods!!

I’m sure there are many of you whom have already hit the competition campaign trail in a major way and coming away from competitions with ribbons and pretty bows!! Speaking of winning, my sincere Congratulations go out to both Sue Symonds and her lovely horse Harvey as you will see their wonderful achievement on Page 3 of this Newsletter. You can ask for Sue’s autograph when you see her next.

Like me, no doubt, I’m sure your heart has gone out to ALL of those people around Victoria and of course in Queen-sland & NSW who have been directly affected by the full force of Mother Nature with the floods, cyclones (bushfires in Perth & this week the earthquake in Christchurch) and particularly those who have unfortunately lost their beloved horses or found themselves not in a position to be able to save them. While the human cost of the devastating floods is almost impossible to evaluate, the heartbreak suffered by the owners of thousands of drowned horses is felt by horse lovers around Australia and the rest of the world.

Horse Deals First Aid Flood Appeal was launched and I am sure that they are still gratefully accepting any and all donations (please see back page of this newsletter for further details if you would like to donate ANYTHING).

Thanks also to both Barbara Geoffrey, Lisa Artridge and Mark Phillips whom have all supplied photos of the flooding that occurred recently in our own backyards (per se) from the huge deluge of rain that arrived on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th February – the day before our Feb Rally.

Many Thanks to Katie Classon and Narelle Walker for completing the Member’s Profiles and 20 Random Questions and also to the contribution for your reading pleasure by Peta Elstrek whom attended an “invite only” Megan Jones Clinic run over the same weekend our rally was held. Meg Stafford and Narelle Walker were also lucky to attend. Look out – Meg might in fact jump something and leave the dressage ring far far behind... and I might be the Queen of England as well...

Hope all you lovers out there also celebrated Valentine’s Day earlier this month. If you are like me, I’m sure some of you would have preferred a new horse “any-thing” (ie rug, saddle, bridle, saddleblanket, WPARC uniform) rather than a night out at some restaurant canoodling with your partner.

Once again, the Newsletter is a bit “light on” for content again guys... so if you want to say something – don’t be shy!! Luckily I can come with plenty of “BS” and loads of pretty pictures for you to look at!!

As I’ve already established, many of our regular rally goers have comps and clinics to attend for the March Rally – so good luck with your endeavours. I’m really proud and excited to have one of my best mates Danielle Marwood coming to take our members through their paces over the XC and Show Jumping forums. Unfortunately, our originally advertised flat instructor Matthew Archibald had “double booked” himself and one of Meg’s new instructors, Ant Bartlett has kindly stepped up to fill his shoes. Hopefully Matthew will be in a position to come to the Club at some stage throughout the year.

It is a large job, although only really comes into effect a few weeks before the event as well as both days of the competition. It could certainly be taken on by more than one person if a few members want to get together and take it on. Please, if you think that you might be inter-ested, give Sharyn or Nic a call.

On my front, I have had a busy month. Clinics and competitions have filled up most weekends. I have a new instructor, Antony Bartlett who you will get to try out also at the Feb rally as he has kindly stepped in to replace the dressage instructor who had to cancel. I hope you all like him as much as me.

If two really consistent scores at the last EA comp are anything to go by, the few changes he has made to my riding are changes for the better.

I have 4 orphaned kittens that I am hand rearing (what was I thinking – 4 hourly feeds!?!) so they are taking up a lot of my time. The kids are back at school again so life is returning to normality. I do have to admit I have enjoyed having them home though.

R ain, rain, rain pretty much sums up the past month. I have never seen so much of the wet stuff in a Summer before.

The Saturday before our last rally, most of the State had flooding of some kind or another. I was attending the Megan Jones Clinic with Narelle and Peta organized by Logan floats (the company I bought my new float off).

It was held in Bangholme and the entire drive down there I could hardly see out of the wind-screen the rain was so heavy. Luckily the clinic was in an indoor on a slight hill, but the rest of the property was pretty much fences in a lake!!!

We had an absolute ball despite the conditions. Although I am a “non jumper”, I picked up so many things that I could carry through to dressage.

For all the success that Megan has had, there was not a hint of arrogance. She was a perfect communicator and filled us all with confidence that we could achieve pretty much anything.

The Kentucky Equine Research 2011 TTT HT is really gathering momentum now.

Everyone helping to organize the event is doing a superb job.

There is one job that has become vacant however and that is Volunteer Co-ordinator.

I decided to purchase a new horse after my previous OTT TB had an injury in the paddock after a fall, fracturing a vertebrae in his neck and my other horse and I just weren’t a match together. I

was unsure of what breed I would buy but I was partial to the Thoroughbreds for their versatility, however I hadn’t ruled out a cross breed or warmblood. The next 6 months were spent traveling around the state in search of the right horse.

Believe me I looked at many, ranging from $20,000 down to $1000. A few were vetted but none passed and hence the search continued. A friend of mine new that I was having a tough time finding a suitable horse and that I was becoming disheartened with the whole thing. (There is nothing worse than traveling miles to get there and view an obviously lame horse!!!)

As I had a young baby of my own temperament played an important role in my selection of a suitable horse as self preservation and safety had become a higher priority than in previous years of riding.

Finally the call came to say……..”think I’ve found you one”.

My first impressions were ok but I wasn’t over the moon, but we loaded him on the float and brought him home to a welcoming committee of friends and family who by the looks on there faces thought “what is she doing she is bloody mad”. He looked like he was in need of a good feed and some TLC.

Over the next few weeks I worked with Harvey as he is affectionately known and a partnership began to form and I was enjoying his layed back attitude, so I made the decision to vet him and if he passed I would buy him.

I wasn’t that hopeful he would pass as 4 other horses I had thought suitable were given the thumbs down by the vet……..but to my surprise he did.

Since he had a microchip tracing his racing history was easy. Harvey raced 6 times under the name of “More Cash” for trainer Austy Coffey. Thankfully for me with not much success.

For 7 months we have now been together and Harvey has only competed in a handful of competitions nearly always coming home with a ribbon.

By far my biggest thrill ever in my riding career was winning the Highpoint Award in my level at the 2011 Royal Melbourne Show.

This achievement will live with me for the rest of my life.

Harvey and I will continue to grow as a partnership but all I can say is my Off the Track Thoroughbred was well “Worth the Wait” and appropriately named so!!

MEGAN JONES CLINIC 5TH & 6TH FEBRUARY 2011 DAY 1

WW ell after weeks of anticipation the weekend finally arrived. The week

before I’d been thinking “should I really be doing this or not” as the

thought of having a lesson from an elite rider can be daunting as a few of us

experienced sitting in on the George Morris clinic recently. Meg, Narelle, Jacqueline & I

were all in the same group which was great at 9am on both Saturday & Sunday.

DAY 1 Continued

TT he night before the heavens decided to open up and unleash it’s fury as mother nature had been doing over

most of the country in the past few weeks with over 100mm of rain falling over night. There were a few txt

messages being shared amongst us but the main concern was “really, really hoping there is an indoor at

this place”. My husband Ross was trying to talk me out of going and Narelle thought the same but said to herself “to

toughen up”!! Poor Meg lost power over night so slept through her alarm and Narelle has some storm damage to fix up

before her & Jacq’s left & I, somehow, managed to leave on time – an amazing feet as I generally run late or under-

estimate the travel time to some venues. It was a very hairy trip down and poor Jimmy probably had motion sickness y

the time I got there. I was the first to arrive bright and early turned into a long driveway that was about a foot under

water, followed it all the way to the end to find a lovely big indoor- HOORAY!!!!

We even struggled to find somewhere to pull up in the parking area that wasn’t under water as well. Meg, Narelle &

Jacqueline arrived within ½ an hour of me & before too long we were all in the saddle & heading to the indoor to warm

up & escape the rain.

After 15minutes or so trotting & cantering around warming up, Megan arrived, so after initial introductions she asked us

to trot & canter large around the arena so she could have a look at us. We then come back into the centre for more

“theory”. She asked us to all stand up in our stirrups to give us the feeling of our upper inner calve muscles firmly on the

horses side explaining that these our seat belts in a emergency. Megan also told us to shorten our reins quite a bit as

said that if they are already at the wither and you need to sit up, your hands end up being passed your hips and become

useless. Having short reins also helped with our balance when we were standing in our stirrups and in a 3 point position.

She then made us go back onto a circle as a group & trot then canter standing up our stirrups – easier said than done!!!

When we had mastered this and she could see that we were secure in our lower calves we come back into 2 point

position with our hands still high though. We went on to do more transitions including trot/canter, canter/trot and also

into halt with our high hands as this gives the horse a clear indication of the ½ halt, then after a few of more of them the

horse sits and listens when you sit up with your leg on the horse thinks you want to halt. As well as all these transactions

we did quite a few 10metre circles on the circle & also trotted over trot poles on the circle which also helped getting the

horse soft through the rib cage & around our inside leg & into the outside rein.

Next exercise was to go down the longside & up the centreline over some trot poles. As soon as I turned Jimmy at “A”

to go up the centreline he stiffened, his head come up and he grabbed the bit & took over & become incredibly strong –

which is a problem I seem to have a lot with him. Megan suggested to come up the centreline over the trot poles just

like I was going down the longside – in “shoulder in!! It worked he stayed soft and obedient so we did one more time

and stopped for a walk break. Well it was nearly time for the lesson to finish up, the last exercise we did was a pole, 2

strides, small fence, 2 strides to another pole on a curve.

So we went through 1 at a time while the others cantered around to keep warm, Jimmy did this exercise quite well and

he felt great. Meg, Narelle & Jacqueline also did this like professionals so before too long our lesson was finished and we

were standing around in our group having a short discussion about individual issues we had & we all headed off out of

the arena to our floats with most enormous grins on our faces!!! We were all so happy with how our ponies went and the

way Megan delivered the lesson.

There was much anticipation in coming back the next day for the second lesson!!

II woke again bright & early Sunday morning for our second lesson and wondered what the trip down to

Keysborough would be like. Amazing pictures of the floods graced Facebook pages, the news & the papers. The

Clubs rally was also looking as though it may have been cancelled which I am told has never happened in the

history of the Club but after Meg & Jenelle C called up to Wandin Park to check out the footing etc it was decided to go

ahead and there was no real danger issues & the property had drained really well. So the trip to Keysborough wasn’t as bad

as I had anticipated.

Meg, Narelle & Jacqueline arrived shortly after, there seem to be a hint of excitement about us and we warmed up while

Megan finished up a private flat lesson with a regular pupil. When she had finished, we had another group chat & Megan

adjusted some new equipment a couple of us had changed to, on Megan’s advice the previous day, before we started up

our lesson.

Firstly Megan had us just walking quietly over 2 extremely narrow poles to simulate an arrowhead & making sure the horse

is obedient to the leg aid. Sounds easy but for some reason we all kept straight & stayed to the centre of the first pole but

drifted off the second one.

Megan said to break it down treat the 2 poles as separate exercises & almost halt between to 2 poles then at the last

minute, if the horse stayed straight, keep going over the 2nd pole but halt & straighten the horse if they drifted. After we

mastered the walk we then moved onto trot them & all the horses finished the exercise perfectly. After a short walk break

we then popped over the exercise we finished on the day before, pole – 2 strides – upright – 2 strides – pole all on a

curving line. We did this a couple times each on each rein, it a really good exercise to do to get them around your leg,

listening & waiting because if they rush through your hand they will end up punching the pole of the upright out, then the

next time they jump through they are a lot more careful.

After that, onto another 2 uprights on a circle with 2 strides between them. We could do this exercise all together on a 30

metre circle and it really seemed to get the horses jumping in the air & round over the back. Our lesson was drawing to a

close as I saw out of the corner of my eye the next group waiting near gate to enter the indoor to warm – up!!!

One last course Megan had us do was an Apex, 4 (or 5) strides to an Arrowhead and we just popped over an oxer a couple

of times just so the horses had jumped a spread then we went through the Apex/Arrowhead a few times each one at a

time. This concluded the lesson (& the clinic) we stood around for another chat as she is such a lovely girl to talk to &

extremely approachable.

I asked her if she thought we were “Olympians in making” and she laughed and said that

absolutely everyone is and said to watch a lot of high level riders and see if you can

understand what they must be feeling and try to feel what they look like they are

feeling!!!

It was one the most fantastic clinics I have ever attended and it wasn’t rocket since what

Megan was teaching us but her way of delivering her lesson was really easy to

understand.

We are all very keen to go over & spend a week with her if we can and also to enjoy some of

the local cuisine & wineries!!!!

For the newer members of our Club, please see the Club’s Website to view or download a copy of the Member’s Guideline’s document. This document was put together to specifically assist members with the more frequently asked questions that you may have regarding many aspects of the Club.

Please take the time to familiarise yourself with this document and the Club‘s going ons.

Due to the unprecedented amount of wet weather that was experienced on the Friday evening and through to the Saturday afternoon prior to our February 6th Rally, I would just like to reiterate to ALL MEMBERS that unless Cyclone Yasi was actually touching down at our Rally Venue, we are not in a habit of cancelling a rally.

The only reason why Meg and I decided to go for a drive to Wandin Park on the Saturday afternoon was brought about by the huge amount of flooding throughout the local roads and to evaluate whether if in fact it would be safe to park floats without Members getting bogged and to make an absolute definitive decision as to the conditions of BOTH arenas and whether or not, they were safe for horses and riders. I suppose being situated on a ‗hill‘ certainly has its advantages in wet weather!!

John Anker had already advised that we were not to use the XC. As indicated in the email sent out very late on the Saturday night before the rally, both of our Instructors (Will & Emily) were happy to go ahead no matter the weather, and Will was happy to put his skills of setting up ―XC‖ fences in the ―SJ‖ forum and do a 1.5hr cross country—show jumping style!!

I do believe that there were people out using Little Wandin. These people were not members of our Club. We as a Club can only do the right thing when directed by the Owner of the property. I‘m not sure if those riders had spoken to John.

As stipulated within the Member’s Guidelines document – Rallies go ahead!! Rail, hail, shine, sleet, snow, floods, cyclones, earthquakes,

El Niño and their cousin La Niña.... in my time with the Club, NO rally has ever been cancelled – and let‘s hope they never have to be!!

So the Equine Chia Top Teams Trophy Combined Training 2011

this year is being hosted by Beveridge Riding Club held at

Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre

Saturday 30th April and Sunday 1st May 2011

For those of you who are laymen and are sitting there wanting to ask the question.......

What is “Combined Training”. Unlike its name suggests, “Combined Training” is actually a competition which

consists of completing a nominated Dressage Test and Show Jumping round. (Some of us thought it was just that a.... A training day....)

Each Competitor completes a Dressage Test and a Showjumping round where the penalties incurred in each

phase are added together. Combined Training is always scored in penalty points therefore the Competitor with

the LOWEST score has the highest placing.

How Do I Enter?

Teams of 3 or 4 riders from the same club may enter TTT events. You are required to send a completed a

HRCAV Standard Entry Form and pay the fees to the Club before the closing date as nominated. Depending

upon numbers of members who wish to compete - teams are then organised.

So if you have some club friends that you would really like to team up with, or go into a “draw your name out of

hat” ballot to see who will be your “team” mates, please send your enquiries to Meg Stafford via email to

After Meg’s “eventing” master clinic with Megan Jones, I will be terribly disappointed if her and Archie aren’t

jumping for joy and have their names pencilled down for a spot in a team. When numbers are ascertained as

to how many of our Members wish to compete, the Club then completes a HRCAV Team Entry Form, pays all

fees and provides proof of each combination’s qualifications. Most importantly, each team is required to

I‟d like to give a “shout out” to one of our Members, Mark Phillips who hasn‟t

had a „fun time‟ at all in the past month with his indoor arena flooding, half of his driveway being washed away (see photos on page 22) and to top things off, someone recently smashed his car window and stole his wallet…. I hope your run of bad luck is done with now for the year.

Sue Symonds went to the assist of her sister, Sharyn Symonds and had a

very long and nervous wait to see if the flood levy they had built would hold and wouldn‟t swamp Sharyn‟s property. Thankfully – it did!!

Waterwheel…. What an understatement!

Thanks to Lisa Artridge for her assistance in moving horses to “higher ground”

that weekend from the aptly named “Waterwheel Agistment” property in Victoria Road. The front paddocks became engulfed with a torrent of raging water (as you will see from the photos on page 15) that thankfully no horses on the property had to have their “floaties” inflated.

Valley Floods —Shout Outs

R ather disappointingly, due to the serious lack of interest from Members to come

along and kick off 2011 with a planned social / get together / fund raising Trivia Night that was to be held in January. Numbers weren’t inspiring enough to run the night.

Melissa Cox had also planned a trail ride for members during January as well – which was also cancelled due to many of the members who had originally said yes – pulling the pin.

So please - if you guys have ANY suggestions of things our Club can get together to do – outside of riding at a rally – we are all ears!!

Have a think and please – if you have any suggestions / ideas –please let one of the Committee Members know!!

Maybe a movie night? Maybe a lunch at a winery? Maybe a weekend away? Maybe a rug party?

Allofasudden on the second element of the Sharknet Splash at the

2010 International 3 Day Event but proved at how outstanding

both herself and her horse were to make it look easy and continue on!!

Megan Jones is an elite three-day event rider.

Megan competed as a team member in the Australian eventing team at the Beijing Olympics winning a team silver medal. Megan was the best performed team member finishing individually third in

the teams' competition and, but for rolling a rail on the last show

jump, Megan would have also won an individual silver medal.

Megan is currently ranked number three rider in the world in the FEI’s event rider rankings (an outstanding achievement for an Australian-based rider) and first in the Oceania group. She has also recently won the HSBC World Cup Qualifiers in both Australia and New Zealand. Megan’s Olympic horse, Kirby Park Irish Jester, is the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses’ top-ranked horse for

2008.

Our March Rally Show Jumping &

Cross Country Instructor is Danielle Marwood

Dani is currently competing in CCI** events and is aiming towards 3* later this year with her horse Bumble Bee.

Dan has been riding and competing for about 25 years. She is also married to Seumas Marwood the founder of Equine Health Sci-ence & SHARK NET and a very accomplished eventer and rider.

Photos are of Dani & Bumble competing at 2* level at last year’s Melbourne Interna-tional 3 Day Event held at Werribee Park Equestrian Centre in June 2010 and at the Wandin CIC Event in March. Dani & Bumble won the CCI**Lakes & Cra-ters in December 2010. This class proved the most challenged on cross-country day. Of the 19 horses that started the cross-country there were only 5 clear rounds, with 8 horses either eliminated or retired on course.

Wrap Up

I t was looking a little bit cold and wet on Sunday of the

Feb rally but mother nature seemed to hold out for us with only

small bits of rain and some cold blasts of wind! My friend Laura

McMahon, a new member to Wandin, and I put our two new

baby ESB mares (irish sport horse) in my pink truck and headed

to Wandin. I was feeling a bit more relaxed for the day as my

chestnut mare, Alla, I had taken out of two lessons, so instead of

doing the planned five I was doing three!?!

First up I had a CC (show jump style) lesson with Will Enzinger.

He is a fantastic instructor who I have trained with for over 10

years now and I always look forward to lessons with him. I was

honestly a bit worried for the first lesson as it was a level 3-1 class

and as Alla wasn’t there I had my new bay mare Viv who had

jumped once, with someone on her!?! There were a few of us in

the lesson, Julie Hassen on the unflapable Dougie, Nicole Gilbert

& Tremayne, Lisa Artridge on Bones and Bethany Paris on Smy

an eager bay gelding.

The lesson was great, with Will setting up a lot of technical style

fences such as apexs, serpentines and narrow fences. All of the

riders enjoyed the challenge and by the end we were all

cantering around tight corners and changing leads. I was

wrapped as my little mare ended up jumping around 70cm

fences and even cantered a few jumps minus the frustrating

bucks that she does whilst trying to organise her legs to canter!

My second lesson was a flat lesson with Emily Anker, who is

another fantastic and talented rider based in Wandin. The lesson

started well, with Kirstie Thomas on her big bay gelding Patrick,

Elise Coulson on her bay mare Denni, and myself.

Emily was great, asking for lots of transitions and getting all of us

positively encouraging our horses to carry themselves and go

forward. I was wrapped with her instruction and Viv really came

out of the lesson having learnt a lot, travelling straighter and nicely

forward with almost no disorganised bucking! Kirstie's gelding

was a little slow for Emily's liking and worked with Kirstie until she

had the pair working forward and softly together-even in the

canter, which looked great. Elise was told to get a dressage whip

and Emily showed Elise how to get her mare more responsive to

her leg and hand aids.

My last lesson for the day was another SJ lesson with Will. I

thought Viv might be exhausted by now but as soon as the bridle

was on she was keen to see where we were

going next! Joining us was Laura on the grey mare Gloria along

with Elise & Denni and Jenna Halls.

Once again, Will did not disappoint and he helped both Laura

and I on our greener horses to encourage them to travel straight

and forward, confident over all styles of fences. I think Laura and I

were both amazed at how well our girls took up the knack of sj,

with confident and happy jumps around the whole course. Elise's

mare confidently tackled everything Will put up with ease and

Jenna Hall’s gelding Mac was very keen to show that he could

get around the fastest!!

All in all it was a fabulous rally day that I thoroughly

enjoyed. It was definitely a challenging environment that Viv took

in and dealt with very well.

As did Laura's mare Gloria and also my friend Kerryn's gelding

Ace who is rising 4 and was up at Wandin to get graded level 4

for showing and dressage...and did!!

Congratulations Kerryn and Ace!! I know the competition season

is starting to kick off now so I want to wish everyone good luck in

their chosen disciplines!!

These are some photos of the recent floods @ our place that Kim took with

her phone.The photos on the opposite page on Victoria Road, normally it goes

under the road into Little Stringybark Creek that runs through our place.

It is the 1st time in the 26 years that we have been here ,that it has gone over

the road .We got 120 ml O/N 1129, 1241 & 1242 are of our back paddocks,

which 2 weeks before we were cutting for hay!! Two years ago nearly to the

day we were having bush fires !!

The sound of the water rushing through was rather eerie ,must have been a

nightmare for those poor buggars up in Queensland !!.

PS our wooden bridge that normally goes over our creek ,was 1/2 washed

away so Frank is going to build a new one! Another job to add to the never

ending list !!,don't know when he can get to ride his Horse again!! Last 2 photos were taken at Carlton Lodge in Coldstream

I had a great lesson with Will & Frank & I had a ball @ the

INXS concert!

Freshmans XC

at their event which is on Sunday 3rd

April 2011

(after all competitors have completed their rounds)

We will only need about

4-6 Members on the day

to run this to collect money

for ANYONE going out onto

Little Wandin to have a play!!

All money raised is donated to Yooralla.

So if you are like me, and will not be travelling

to Werribee in July to assist at the TTT HT

Here is an opportunity to put some time in

for receiving the Club’s Working Bee Levy

(for next seasons WPARC Membership)

Attended a HRCAV show at Hurstbridge on Sunday 13 February 2011. Had a pretty good day and most of all my horse (well actually he is Mum's, but we really share both our horses) was such a good boy - did not put a foot wrong. They achieved the following results: Hurstbridge District Adult Riding Club Official Show Cait Doyle - Musician - Level 3 Smartest on Parade - 5th Ridden Mount - 3rd Rider - 1st

Australia Day - Phoenix Dressage Day at Wesburn I am pleased with how I went. My boy was so well behaved I couldn‘t fault him. I on the other hand still need to re-gain my strength in my seat and leg which is coming along week by week, but is still not back to the strength that it was at previously. So our trot work was nice, but our canter work really needs some more work. But I will get there with time, can‘t rush these things. I think we ended up about 7th or 8th or something both tests out of 16 level 2 riders, so I am quite happy with that.

Mum took her new boy out and came 5th in her second test in level 4, so she bought home her first ribbon on her first outing on him!

Champion Club Member Championship Points The Green Book

Members please remember to complete the ‘Green Book’ at each rally to ensure you accrue points throughout the year towards a free chaff chat or free entry to a TTT event/s the following year.

The person with the most points at the end of the financial year (October) will re-ceive a trophy and a free WPRCA Membership for the following year as well as the ‘Champion Member’ title.

You can earn points by just attending club rally days (either mounted / un-mounted), helping at rallies, writing for the newsletter, competing at official HRCAV competitions, or helping at our competitions, attending the AGM and General Meeting during the year.

At the end of the year, Members who earn:

h300-399 points will entitle the member to either a chaff chat or a TTT entry;

h400 points plus 2 x TTT entries paid for;

The Club Champion will receive free WPRCA Membership for the following season.

This rule is assessed annually.

Committee Members DO NOT receive points for the committee jobs they do. Any member can earn the same amount of points as each other.
