ing since these booklets appeared. Thank
you Jody and group.
During our “once every five year” safety
inspection by a Diocesan representative
from Church Insurance, it was recom-
mended we have visual records of our as-
sets. A video or photographs need to be
taken and these records stored offsite in a
safe place. Could you help? Do you have a
video camera? Is photography maybe your
hobby? This could by done by anyone –
young, old, short, tall. It could be done
during the early summer. Sounds like a
good project. If you are interested, please
call me at the office any Monday, Tuesday
or Thursday.
Well it’s time for another Junior Warden’s
report…..Which I’ve been told I’m late
again. (Our Senior Warden seems to not
have a problem reminding me of that….)
(Oh come on, I have to blame someone).
We’ve had kind of a slow month. You may
have noticed some of the bumps on the
walkways have been smoothed out, but
there are still a couple more we have to
take care of. We may have had a slow
month....but we had a GREAT day April
27th. Our spring clean-up was a huge suc-
cess. A very heart felt thanks to everyone
who helped: John Gurza, Ciarra German,
Thomaz Bamef, L. Wallan, Craig Gates,
Glee Gates, Susan Villnow, Victor Whuy-
man, Mike Farthing, Joseph Balcolm,
James Walls, Jane Soares, Pat Trama,

ster, Jackson Webster, Lauren Houghton,

area of the church if you are one with a
green thumb. Lay Eucharist Visitors bring
Holy Communion to those parishioners
who are homebound or in the hospital. You
could be part of this ministry or a Lay Eu-
charistic Minister who serves in the wor-
ship service by reading and serving during
Holy Communion. If you love to sing and
have a great voice, you can serve in the
choir. We have parishioners who serve as
receptionists during the week too! Is there
a place for YOU to serve? Absolutely! In
fact, God has given you gifts and interests
and expects you to serve! The compelling
fact about service is that we need to serve
God and in order for the church to function
the church needs people to serve! If you
need more information on where you can
fit in and serve—talk to me! See you in
church!
Warmly in Christ,
Fr. Lance
Have you noticed the songbooks in the
pews? Note on the back all the persons

lieve I have heard more parishioners sing-
Dear Friends,
We DID have a glorious Easter week and
now we are well into the Easter season!
The emphasis of Easter season is the res-
urrected Jesus. For forty days after his
resurrection Jesus appeared to his disci-
ples and continued to teach and guide
them and then he ascended into heaven. It
was an exciting time for the disciples as
they began the transition of being disci-
ples (followers) to becoming apostles
(sent ones).
It is an exciting time here at St. Andrew’s
too! We are finishing our study of the
epistle of James. After James we will be-
gin the study of the first epistle to the
Thessalonians which was the 2nd New
Testament book written according to most
New Testament scholars. This is the first
letter written by St. Paul. This too will be
an enjoyable book to study. The study will
last between 4 and 6 weeks. In our adult
education classes on Saturdays and Sun-
day mornings we are going through Epis-
copal traditions and discovering what our
tradition believes and has taught and to
what we hold and why.
The church has more than educational
opportunities though! We have opportuni-
ties for ministry to others too! If you are
not currently serving anywhere, you have
a number of choices! The Thrift Stop is in
need of your help; you can serve on the
altar guild or as an usher or greeter! You
can volunteer to help in the bread ministry
or the back-pack ministry, or the youth
ministry and Sunday school. There are
parishioners who keep the garden area in

Home Visits with
Father Lance
Father Lance is in the process of trying
to visit all our parishioners. He is eager
to meet each and every one of you in
your own home. Office volunteers are
calling to make appointments.
If you do not already have an appoint-
ment, Fr. Lance will catch you in the
fall.

Some gave their professional talents – like
with electrical repairs – some their back
aching talent – pulling weeds. Some gave
with seeing talents – cleaning windows.
Some gave with a talent that will help St.
Andrew’s be noticed by cleaning our sign.
The thing I’m most thankful for is that eve-
rybody gave with the talent of a loving
heart. “Thank you” hardly begins to ex-
press how much you all mean to St. An-
drew’s.
There is one person I would like to take a
special moment to recognize: our Sexton
Tom Beem. Tom donated his time on Sat-
urday, as we all did, but he started at
6 am setting up & coordinating who would
be best suited for each task. He did a great
job!!! So next time you see Tom...tip your
hat…but be careful…if he tips his to you
…the glare off his head could cause retinal
damage…You have been forwarned.
Thank you to all !!!!!!!!!!!!
In God’s love,

YOUTH GROUP The Youth group had a surprise Thank You
dinner for Jody Bowes at the beach on
April17. They each gave Jody a flower and
something they had made for her.
Britany Traudt began it with her poem in
rap and Sarah Lillpopp and Lauren Hough-
ton ended it with a song! Jody has done so
much for our young people.
We are planning our last meeting until Fall.
It will be an overnight in Krysher Hall - we
hope!

FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
The friends of the Library meeting on
April 9th was the last until October 8th.
The book club will also be in recess until
October 8th. The books for next year will
be decided at that time. The members of
the library are working hard to organize
our library to make it more user friendly.
It is still a work in progress and we hope to
have it finished in the near future.
For all our church members who like to
keep their hands and fingers busy don’t
forget about the Arts & Crafts section of
the library. There are books on knitting,
needlepoint, cross-stitch and instruction
books on art technique.
Those of you who like to listen to your
reading material, we have you covered
with books on tape and CDs, so please
come in and take a browse Sundays and
during the week—the library is never
locked. —Deb Wilks
OPPORTUNITY
FOR
SERVICE
Our wonderful Thrift Shop is a ministry
that serves God, the church and visitors.
With the coming of Spring and Summer,
many volunteers who faithfully serve God
by working in the Thrift Shop, go to other
locations leaving many hours when the
Thrift Shop may not be staffed. Please
consider filling some of these hours to
serve God and meet wonderful people. To
serve contact Fr. Lance or Rich Kovacs at
the Thrift Shop 352-686-1114.
ALTAR GUILD Thank you for all you hard work at Easter.
Summer is almost here, and I need to
know when you are going to be away so I
can make up the new schedule.
Call me 686 0808 or email me.
Till next month—Gail Niedurny
MUSIC NOTES After May, our Sanctuary choir takes a
well-deserved break until resuming re-
hearsals at the end of August. This is
YOUR opportunity to participate as a
“Summer Soloist!” If you would like to
plan an instrument or sing (by yourself or
with a small group of friends), contact me
and we’ll set the date! St. Andrew’s is
blessed with many creative souls. We
would love to hear from you.
Our Cantata Choir will continue periodic
rehearsals over the summer. If you sing,
read music and love a challenge, contact
me about an audition for this small but
powerful group.

Pink Envelopes
As most of you know, St. Andrew’s
Pre-School is closing at the end of 40
years.
There is no way to really say “Thank
You” to our dedicated staff, but we
would like to in some small way show
them our appreciation for all their past
efforts.
There will be a “purse” to show our
appreciation for each of our teachers.
You may place your donation in the
pink envelopes found at the back of the
church for this purpose.
Thank you for your generosity.
Thank you to all the families who made
the delicious soups for dinner on Maundy
Thursday. All of the soups I tasted were
scrumptious, and the buns were abso-
lutely wonderful ... actually spectacular.
How lucky the families are who have
these talented cooks in their folds and
how lucky for St. Andrew’s that they
shared these talents with us for the dinner.
Thank you to the people who put in their
time and hard worked in the set up and
clearing of the hall. The meal was so en-
joyable and so delicious.
Sincerely,
Nancy Koehle

Dear St. Andrew’s Family;
My family and I would like to thank you
all for the heart-felt compassion on the
passing of our Mother: Dorothy Foli.
Your concern and sympathy were greatly
appreciated.
Thank You,

ORDER OF
ST. LUKE
Are you looking for a good way to start
your day? A good breakfast and exer-
cise is what we hear all the time, but I
have a better way!
For many years the Episcopal Church
has published a manual of daily Bible
readings and devotions.
Some of us cannot imagine starting our
day without reading the daily message.
The message is short, but meaningful.
You can use it more extensively if you
choose. At the bottom of each page it
gives you the Psalm of the day and
other Bible readings if you choose to
look them up.
The new Forward Day By Day cover-
ing the months of May, June and July,
are in the tract racks now.
The cost to the church for this publication
is $.90.
There is a box at each tract rack. No one
is there to make change, so a dollar would
be helpful if you do not have the change.
If the cost is a problem, just take one.
Start you day the best way possible, a few
minutes in the presence of God.
Online Humor: Acts 3:28 A woman returned to her home from
an evening of church services, when
she was startled by an intruder. She
caught the man in the act of robbing
her home of its valuables and yelled:
“Stop! Acts 2:38!” (Repent and be Bap-
tized, in the name of Jesus Christ, so
that your sins may be forgiven.)
The burglar stopped in his tracks. The
woman calmly called the police and ex-
plained what she had done.
As the officer cuffed the man to take him
in, he asked the burglar:
“Why did you just stand there? All the old
lady did was yell a scripture to you.”
“Scripture?” replied the burglar, “She said
she had an Ax and Two 38s!”
Knowing scripture can save your life - in
more ways than one!

Experts at Parish Renewal Will Lead Annual Vestry Retreat
From BRIDGES Diocese Newsletter
Needlepoint Kneelers of
St. Andrew’s Church
The needlepoint kneelers at the altar rail
tell the story of St. Andrew’s life with
symbols. These kneelers were the work
of Evelyn Bacon, Meg Beeley, Margaret
Chase, Shirlee Deese, Lois Everard,
Alberta Gee, Kate MacDonald, Helen
Nouza, Ruth Rubino, Edith Hutton,
Helen Wison and Ruth Atwood.
Each kneeler contains a St. Andrew’s
cross in the center with a symbol on
each side. There is a repeat of one sym-
bol on the adjacent kneeler for continu-
ity. The story begins at the upper left
side of the altar rail. In addition to the
15 kneelers, there is a dedicated one for
Easter and one for a wedding. The box-
ing pieces across the front and on the
exposed sides are decorated with Greek

PARRISH – Two experts at rein-
venting parish church life will
lead the annual Vestry Retreat of
the Diocese of Southwest Florida
set for Saturday, May 11, 2013.
Consultants Robert Gallagher and
Michelle Heyne will address gath-
ered Episcopal members of ves-
tries from across Southwest Flor-
ida at the day-long conference at
DaySpring Episcopal Center.
Gallagher and Heyne’s focus is
on the parish church, offering
help so that the parish church
may “more fully live what it is --
an expression of the Body of
Christ, the People of God.”
The Washington Post calls Gal-
lagher a “professional church sav-
ior.” A former parish priest, Gal-
lagher has been a consultant and
trainer in religious systems, non-
profit organizations and small
businesses since 1970. He has
been on the staff and/or consult-
ant to ecumenical training organi-
zations, an industrial mission and
metropolitan and state councils of
churches, and served as the con-
gregational development officer
for the Episcopal Diocese of Con-
necticut from 1981-88.
Heyne has been as part of the
training team in the Church De-
velopment Institute and Shaping
the Parish of the Diocese of
Washington and in the national
programs of each. She is has
worked in the financial industry
for many years as a compliance
officer and is currently part of
Precedent Consulting.
Their work is centered around
the idea that the parish church
exists to glorify God, live in the
community of the Holy Trinity,
and form people Christ so they
may be instruments of God's
love in their families, with
friends, in the workplace, and in
civic life. The Post described it as
resuscitating houses of worship
that are losing people and pas-
sion.
In accomplishing this, they be-
lieve in bridging ancient and tra-
ditional ways in the service of
contemporary life.
The retreat is free to vestry
members in The Episcopal Dio-
cese of Southwest Florida. The
Vestry Retreat will be held at the
DaySpring Episcopal Conference
Center. Registration and break-
fast begins at 8 a.m.; the work-
shop starts at 9 a.m. and will
conclude by 4 p.m. Lunch is in-
cluded.
Please register by email to Con-
nie Salyers at
call (941) 556-0315.
