EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE CANDIDATES The following biographical information about those running for the Buffalo Chapter AGO Executive Committee should help you in making your choices. You should vote for three members whose term will run for three years. Use the enclosed ballot, and PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE -- in person at the Annual Meeting or by mail: ALEX BENESTELLI is Minister of Music at Calvary Episcopal in Williamsville, New York where he directs the choirs, plays the organ for the church’s three weekend liturgies, and coordinates a comprehensive program of sacred music for the parish. Before coming to Calvary in 2012, Alex was most recently Assistant Organist at Pasadena Presbyterian Church in California where he served as principal accompanist for the adult and children’s choirs and shared service playing responsibilities with music director Timothy Howard on the church’s historic 113-rank Aeolian-Skinner organ. Alex graduated with honors from Westminster Choir College and the University of Southern California. He studied organ with Ken Cowan and conducting with Donald Brinegar and Sharon Lavery. In addition to his work at the keyboard, Alex has performed choral/symphonic works with the New York Philharmonic, The Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony and others, including syndicated radio broadcast and recordings for commercial release. Alex is a member of the American Guild of Organists, American Choral Directors’ Association, Royal School of Church Music in America, and the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honors Society. He also serves on the commission on liturgy for the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York. KEVIN DURKIN (Buffalo native) recently returned to his hometown as the Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Canisius High School, after holding church music positions in Washington, DC (Director of Music and the Arts, Mount Vernon Place UMC) and Boston, MA (Director of Music, St. Charles Borromeo Church). At Canisius High School, Kevin directs three choral ensembles and teaches Piano I and Piano II. He holds a master's degree in organ performance from SUNY at Buffalo where his principal teacher was Roland E. Martin, and he studied choral conducting, voice, and vocal pedagogy with Robert McIver (The Eastman School of Music) and Sharon Christman (The Catholic University of America). Kevin is licensed as a music educator in Massachusetts, and is passionate about introducing young people to art music and the pipe organ. TIMOTHY DYKSTRA became an AGO member 10 years ago while he was organist at Forest Avenue Christian Church in Buffalo upon receiving (in the mail) an invitation letter to join. The church has since then closed, and Timothy is currently participating in the music program under the direction of Dr. Carole Harris at the Church of the Nativity UCC, Kenmore where he has been a long time member. Tim received a M.Div. at Lancaster Theological Seminary in Lancaster, PA. He has served pastorates in New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.   PETER GONCIARZ is currently Director of Music at Our Lady of Pompeii RC Church in Lancaster, NY and is in the Master of Music Performance Program at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he studies both organ and harpsichord with Roland Martin. Peter earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Villa Maria College of Buffalo where he studied organ with James Flood. Peter has also served as organist at St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr RC Church, and the former Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament RC Church in Depew (now St. Martha). JEANNE SUSKI was born and raised in Buffalo and graduated from SUNY Buffalo with a BFA in Organ Performance (and a J.D.) –– where she studied organ with Michael Burke and briefly with Barbara Harbach, and voice and choral conducting with Dr. Harriet Simons. Her experience as a church musician began at age 13, when her parish organist took ill and her father volunteered her to fill in. She has been playing for worship services ever since. Past employers have included First Church of Christ Scientist (Elmwood and North), Temple Sinai (Amherst) and St. Benedict's (Amherst). In 1999, she resigned her full-time music position to more aggressively pursue another interest. During this period she worked as a substitute and part-time organist at St. Stephen's (Grand Island). Her latest church position has been Music Director at Church of the Good Shepherd (Episcopal), Buffalo. She balances church music duties with her 'day job' as a corporate pilot. She has been a member of the AGO for thirty years. DAVID WERTH is a native of Wheatfield, New York. He began playing the organ and accompanying the choirs at his home congregation, St. John Lutheran Church, as an elementary school student, and became the organist at Hope Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls while in high school. He received his undergraduate education at Niagara University, New York, earning the Bachelor of Business Arts degree in accounting in 1981. In 1984 he received the juris doctorate degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has served as full time organist at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church since April 7th, 1991 and also directs the Adult Choir, Bell Choir and the Brass Ensemble there. He has been a coordinator for numerous worship and music workshops for the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod – Eastern District and the Holy Ghost Lutheran Hymn Festival series. He also regularly participates in worship conferences at Concordia University, River Forest, Illinois; Concordia University, Seward, Nebraska; and St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota. In 2001, David became a tax partner at Ernst & Young, a global leader in professional services. In 2004 he became a tax partner at Tronconi Segarra & Associates, one of the region’s largest public accounting and professional services firms. David has commissioned a dozen works for various combinations of organ, choir, brass and handbells –– all have been published by Concordia Publishing House. In 2012, David began writing for the “Creative Worship” series published by Concordia Publishing House. He resides at home in Bergholz (Wheatfield) with his wife, Jan, and daughter, Kaitlin.

COMING EVENT Our next event will be in September –– the first of our next

season’s events –– a recital at St. Joseph Cathedral by this year’s Buffalo Chapter AGO Competition winner, Jillian Gardner. All of the information about this event will be in the September Bombarde.
