Clint Allemand

Anyone who’s been to a PCA Finals rodeo would recognize the voice ofClint Allemand, announcer for many of the PCA’s Southeastern events. TheLouisiana horse farrier and experienced calf-roper has called the plays atrodeo events for over eight years, keeping the arena crowd on top of allthe action.

Allemand grew up around the rodeo, finding both a sport and a tradeworking with horses. As time passed, he developed his skills as a rider andhorseshoer. In the ’90s, he participated in pro rodeos. “I’ve been withthe PCA and have had a great time,” says Allemand. “I was a calf-roperbefore taking up announcing.” In ’98, he made it to the PCA Finals, anevent he now covers every year. Allemand credits his mentor Ernie Theriot for help during his time in the arena.

There’s no denying the enthusiasm and humor Allemand adds to the rodeo. Beyond calling the scores and stand-ings, the PCA announcer provides commentary on the riders and their performance. He’s quick to congratulate arecord breaking time and first to offer a word of encouragement if a rider is bucked. His banter with rodeo clownslike Reggie Purvis keeps the audience entertained between events. Allemand’s wife Kristine joins him to worksound, providing music and other audio during each ride. After eight years of announcing, Allemand has becomean expert at addressing the crowd and getting them worked up for the show.

The leap from arena to microphone was a seamless transition for Allemand. “It just happened over time,” hesays. “The curiosity to do it was always there, so when opportunities came up, I took them and enjoyed it.” Alle-mand’s influences include PCA announcers Dick Coorey (who announced rodeos in the ’90s when he was riding)and Jim Poole.

Outside of the arena, Allemand is a professional farrier, taking expert care of horse hooves applying horseshoes,and fashioning and repairing tack. “The two jobs work hand-in-hand,” he says. “They’re different sides of rodeolife, working right with the horses. It’s good to see all sides of it.”

While Allemand now spends his rodeo time at the sound booth, the family continues the riding tradition. Histwo daughters Whitley and Rachel both rope in the PCA. His fondest moment from the rodeo calls back to twoyears ago when both daughters won rounds at the PCA Finals. “Seeing them ride is the best part to me,” he says.“It means a lot to have the family together there. That’s the most important thing- our family and faith thatbrings it together.”
