May 2016 – Volume XI, Issue 5
Walden Woods Ltd.
We’re finally back home in the renovated clubhousefor good. Small things have yet to be worked outand there are a few things to adjust to, but here weare! It’s a beautiful clubhouse that’s well furnishedand decorated.
Time to get to work. There is not a lot planned forthe next few months — I think February and Marchwore all of us out.
We are planning a Mother’s Day dance, an icecream social, Ltd Dining, and a Memorial Dayservice and cookout for May. June brings us a WiskCard game, and Father’s Day cookout. On July 4th
we’ll celebrate with a pool party and cookout.August is break time. Watch for flyers to see if wethrow in a surprise event —depending on the moodand volunteers.
In the fall we are planning a “Catch the Ace.” This isa new activity that was just presented to me andsounds like fun.
Most of the snowbirds have left us for the summerbut we’re still here, so again watch for the flyersand READ them. Our poster board is located way inthe back hallway by our library. We will try to postthe events in the clubhouse but the signup sheetsare in the back on the bulletin board. We’ll make itwork.
Our library shelving is much smaller so there will befewer books than in the past. Another thing we willwork through. We hope to make more use out ofthe stage in the fall as many ideas have beenpassed around. I’d like to take this time to thank allthe many volunteers we’ve had; from all thesnowbirds that have left, to our volunteers that arehere year around. Thanks again!
Walden Woods North
WOW! Where has the year gone?? It’s alreadyMay and it is getting very quiet in theneighborhood. Our northern friends are slowlyleaving to head back to the cool north. We willmiss them all throughout the summer.
Activities are slowing down too. We were reallysorry to have to cancel the Citrus CountyBlessings Dinner last month. Maybe it will gobetter if we reschedule it for the Fall. We do thankeveryone who contributed supplies to the donationbox. You are good people.
We did have our Spaghetti Dinner and the new“Build Your Own Burger Bar” which were wellattended. At this time we have a Taco dayscheduled for May and are working on somethingfor Mother’s Day and for a joint venture with theLimited on Memorial Day. Keep your eyes out forfurther information on the bulletin boards.
The monthly breakfast has been discontinued untilSeptember but we will be holding Coffee andDonuts meetings the 1st and 3rd Saturday eachmonth.
A beautiful quilt has been donated to the SocialClub by Ron and Joyce Hesketh. We are lookinginto the possibility of raffling it off in the nearfuture. There will be more information about it at alater date.
We hope everyone will enjoy their summer.

Happy May ! It’s hard to believe that residents are leavingalready to head North. It’s been a pleasure to meet a lot ofyou that I didn’t have a chance to meet last year. I enjoytalking the early birds as they walk their dogs while I’m on mylong commute to work !! I finally remembered to get sometreats for the dogs. What a great way to start my day!
I know some of you are discouraged that not all the issueshave been tended to at the LTD Clubhouse. I know thebiggest concern was the ladies room, I’m happy to say, therepairs room are completed. I am working on getting acouple more bookshelves for the Library and some otherthings, please be patient for a little longer. I have to workwith the vendors to get them here, it is not always an easytask. Just because you don’t see action, doesn’t mean it isn’tin the works. If you have any questions, please let me know.
I would like to give a big shout out to Terrie Lance. She hasnot only done a terrific job doing her work, but has done herbest to be maintenance also. She has had to step out of thebox and do things she has never done. We’re very lucky tohave her as part of our Team. I’m very proud of her. Thankyou Terrie. Mark is back to work as of April 21st. He wasmissed and we are very glad to have him back.
New street lights have been installed on the corner ofCastlewood and Amesbury and on the corner of Wiltshire andAmesbury. We will be working on a solution for the lightingissue in the Estates as soon as we can.
Thank you to all of you who have brought in your driver’s
licenses and Resident Information Sheets. Rememberwe need your licenses to keep our 55+ status and theinfo sheets so we have up to date info.

Take a few minutes to look at the beautiful picturescolored by the Coloring in Fellowship group.People think they are just “coloring”, but when yousee these pictures you will see that some of themcan take hours and are beautiful enough to hangon the wall. I plan on taking a lunch hour everyonce in a while and joining them. Remember allare welcome, men and women.
My current RVP (Kathy Neasham) will be leavingSun at the end of April. I had the pleasure ofmeeting the new RVP (Megan Bunting) this week.We had a really nice visit and I look forward toworking with her.

Helpful Reminders from your Community Manager “B”
Most are just common sense but sometimes we all need to be reminded.
It has been brought to my attention that some residents have rain barrels outside their homes. If you do, please find away to cover them, they are becoming a haven for nasty mosquitoes. I appreciate why you have them, but themosquitoes are affecting the community and your neighbors.
I have noticed a lot of vehicles parking on the side of the streets during the day. Temporary street parking ispermitted, but not meant for you to park there all day long, every day. If you do not have enough room in yourcarport you may need to do something to make room. Carports are made for parking cars. We need the streetsclear in case of emergencies. If the emergency vehicles can’t get through, this is a real problem that could affecteach and every one of us.
PLEASE make sure you shower before going into the pools. We have had problems lately with the pool filters gettingclogged due to tanning lotion. If the filters are clogged they can’t work properly and the pool will be cloudy. It takesquite a bit of time to get the water cleared up. Please do your part in keeping our pools looking beautiful.
It is time to get things looking good after the winter months. Lawns and weeds are growing rapidly. Please make sureyou are staying on top of these things. It can get away from you quickly and then the complaints from others startmaking their way to the office. Also, make sure you have arrangements made for lawn care and maintenancearound your home before you leave for the summer.
Residents must advise management when they wish to build, add on, landscape, or modify their home, site, orassociated structures as stipulated in the Community Rules and Regulations and must meet all current HealthDepartment Regulations. The Exterior Improvement Request must be completed by the Resident and approvedby Community Management prior to alteration.
You will need prior approval for tree removal and trimming. If a tree is alive and healthy, it is the responsibility of theresident to maintain it. If the tree is determined to be dead or diseased, then it will be the Community that isresponsibile to have it removed or trimmed. Please come to the Office if you have questions concerning tree work.We will have our Tree Company come to your home and determine what needs to be done.
If you want to have us look into an issue / complaint, remember to sign the letter / note before you drop it off at theoffice. If you are bringing something to the Office, then it must be important to you, so please sign your name.
Please make sure we have your updated information (phone #’s and address) if you leave for the summer. We have aResident Information Sheet that you can fill out. It is really important that you do this before you leave for thesummer. If you are gone for more than 5 days, we require you fill out this form. This way we know if you are nothere and know how to reach you in case of an emergency.
Residents that live in the North, please make sure your light at the end of your driveway is working. If the photo cellneeds to be replaced, please contact the Office. These lights provide safety for all residents whether walking ordriving. The streets are very dark when the lights are out. If it shines in your window, darken the side facing yourhome, the rest of the light will still illuminate the street.
Thank you, “B”

Update on the Homeless Vets Project
Hello everyone, here are some excerpts from the most recent newsletter from Mission in Citrus HomelessShelter.
"The Veteran's Shelter Grand Reopening on April 1st went well beyond my expectations. Many were able tosee that it will become the best Veteran's Shelter in Florida...
“The Mission in Citrus will be updating the public with the box truck, as they get it wrapped for their voyage. It will be their support vehicle to the Rolling Thunder Rally, and the White House. Huge two foot lettersdesigned with a much larger vision for the future. A message to be seen around America, and by Congressand President Obama. Nothing else has been successful in getting their attention.
“The Mission in Citrus would like to thank all of those who have been sending encouragement, prayers, andhelp. Veterans are now getting the help that they need. Our vets range in age from 21 to 76. We are moving
them into homes as fast as possible thanks to the United Way, HUD-VASH, and Family Endeavors.
“Our Memorial Wall is almost finished inside the front door, for those wishing to honor their lovedones. Walmart, the VFW'S, and the Elks Clubs continue to be a driving force at the shelter. We aremaking an offer on a new 100 bed facility for Veteran's permanent housing...
“The Mission in Citrus has acquired a small trailer to enable them to make pickups. Please notehowever, pickups must involve a reasonable amount of furniture to come out. Just clothes, beddingand towels are not enough to warrant a trip. Please call Mission in Citrus (352.794.3825) to makearrangements for pick up of any furnishings along with other items you would liketo donate for the set-up of the Homeless Shelter or Apartments."
Here is the total collected to date:15 boxes food - about 330 lbs.13 boxes of personal items -about 100 lbs.20 blankets9 bags of pillowcases, towels, etc.6 packages of paper products
Thank you to everyone for your generosity,Tom Brannelly and Charlotte Mixon

LTD HOA President
As summer approaches some of our residents will either be returning North or leaving onvacation. Our renovated clubhouse is now open and the changes have given the residents of WWa beautiful showplace for our community events. Along with the change come some issues thatstill need to be resolved with the clubhouse. We have met with management to discuss theseitems and most will be corrected as scheduling can be arranged. The new building constructionwill begin as soon as design plans are approved and permits are acquired.
Our last HOA meeting will be held on Tuesday May 10th and will begin again Tuesday September12th. Over the summer your HOA board will be looking into some changes in chapter 723 of theFlorida Statutes governing HOAs. We may need to have meetings concerning By-Law changes inorder to comply with the new rules. If meetings are needed everyone will be notified.
Holly and I are returning to PA for a few months or less depending on the weather there. When wereturn we'll be bringing along a new puppy to add to our family.
Wishing all of you a wonderful summer. Be safe in all your travels.

Walden Woods North Homeowners’Association - From The President
We are in the month of May and a lot of ourfriends have gone back North. We have startedour summer schedule and our next HOAmeeting is scheduled for September 13, 2016.We are going into our rainy season, we askthat everyone please remove anything thatmight hold standing water around your hometo avoid mosquito breeding.
We would like to remind everyone that eventhough there are fewer people here at this timeof the year, we still have to obey the 15 mphspeed limit and stop at all stop signs. The year-long residents still walk their dogs and ridetheir bikes. If you do walk your dog or rideyour bike before dawn and after dark, pleasehave a light on your bike or carry a flashlight.
Have a safe and fun summer. We hope to seeall of you at our many events this summer.
John Simmons HOA [email protected]

Tech Talk
This is the first of a monthly series of articles related tohelpful technology tips. If you have something you wouldlike explained, send your questions [email protected], and I will address in theorder received. This month’s article:
Should I upgrade to Windows 10?
If you are running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, you havelikely seen the pop-ups encouraging you to upgrade toWindows 10 for free. This "free" offer will last untilapproximately "one year from the time Windows 10 wasavailable," which should be just about July 29, 2016. Insummary then, PCs running XP or Vista, and after that, you will pay about $119 for an upgrade.
Microsoft rather rudely pushed me off the Windows 8.1cliff about two weeks ago. While initially upset, I did someserious compatibility checking and found that MSactually got is right this time! But the question for youremains, "should I apply the free upgrade?"
Use the following as a guide:
* If you're buying a new PC: Go ahead and get it withWindows 10. Windows 8 and 8.1 machines are about tobecome ghosts.
* If you're running real Windows 8 or 8.1 on a traditionalPC: Upgrade right away. Windows 8 and 8.1 are about tobecome forgotten to history.
* If you're running Windows 7: Unless you absolutely loveone of the Windows 10 new features (most notablyCortana or the gaming features), you should stick withWindows 7. I am not upgrading my Windows 7 machines.
* If you're running Windows RT: Toss it in the trash andbuy yourself a useful machine. There might be a chanceyou can upgrade to Windows 10, but it is notrecommended.
* If you're running Windows 8 or 8.1 on a tablet: Probablybest to stick with 8.1. If you're running Windows 8, moveto 8.1. Windows 10 might work, but it might not be worththe risk.
(continued next column)
* If you rely on Windows Media Center: Windows 10will remove it.
* If you're running XP or Vista: Find thee adumpster. Chances are you also still write on stonetablets.
Best of luck.!
