COUNSELLOR’S CORNER

Scholarship Reminders:

Students in grade 12 who receive scholarships and bursaries are reminded to bring the letter of notification to the School Counsellor. Not only do we want to congratulate you, but we also need this information for the graduation ceremony.

Also, new scholarships come into the Student Services office daily. Please continue to check in the Scholar-ship Information folder in the outer office and on the school website. Be sure to listen to morning announce-ments for developments.

Student Loan Presentation

A representative from Student Loans will be at MRHS on the evening of Monday, May 15 to give a presenta-tion about Nova Scotia and Canada Student Loans. The presentation will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the MRHS Library. Students, parents and guardians welcome.

If you are a grade 11 or 12 student, make sure you have filled in your Student Profile form and passed it into the main office. This information is used to award local bursaries and scholarships. Copies can be found in the Student Services office.

Acceptance into Post-Secondary Programs

Grade 12 students—when you receive letters of acceptance into post-secondary programs, please let Stu-dent Services know. This will help staff with awards, as well as for our records.

To contact Mrs. Arthur: [email protected] (902-825-5357) or at the Student Services office by chance or appointment.

GRADE 6 NEWS

ART PROJECT: The 6th grade would like to thank Denise Noonan and Karen Bruce for coming in to help out with a pointillism art project (using only dots). The students used different sized dow-els dipped in paint to create the effect. The students were very pleased with their results.

RECIPE BOOK FUNDRAISER: The 6th grade will be taking orders for the annual Recipe Book fundraiser. Recipes books will be on sale for $7.00 each. The book is a compilation of recipes from the food the grade 6 students brought into school in December for their Culture Fair.

ENCOUNTERS WITH CANADA is a unique opportunity for Canadian teens to meet other young people from across the country and spend an adventure-filled week in the nation’s capital! Students will have the opportunity to check out future career options, discover their country, and share hopes and dreams. Each year, two grade 11 students are selected to attend - the students chosen this year are Drew Hudson and Morgan Thurber. Each week is a different theme and Drew and Morgan will have the opportunity to choose which week they want to attend during the next school year.

STUDENT ADDRESS INFORMATION REQUEST FOR BUSING PURPOSES

As a rule, AVRSB assigns bus stops to students based on their HOME address only. However, it is realized that not every student is bused to and from their “home” address. In situations that this is not the address the student is to be bused to and from, it is to everyone’s benefit if the Transportation Division has this alternate address information.

Alternate home—refers to cases of more than one legal guardian.

Please note that in the case of alternate transportation, a bus stop will only be ADDED if a CARE PROVIDER is the ONLY address where busing is required. Otherwise, courtesy busing may be provided on a space available basis to the nearest current bus stop.

If you require busing for your child for an address that is DIFFERENT from their HOME address on file with the school, please contact the school and we will provide a form to you to be filled in and returned to the school.
