Return to Church It was great to see everyone who was able to attend last week-end. We have been settling nicely into our new normal con-ditions, and
thank you for following the directives and remaining patient and flexible as we navigate these unusual circum-stances. Thanks especially to our staff and volunteers who made the transi-tion to attending Mass in-person possi-ble, both the outdoor Masses as well as Masses in our church building.
Though I know we all wish we could all be together under one roof, it defi-nitely feels like we’re much closer to that day. Remember, the ability to re-ceive the Eucharist is also available eve-ry day Monday through Saturday if you believe it is best for you to receive Holy Communion in an environment with less people. Also, please do your best to come with your family as one group to help maximize the space re-served for seating. Larger families will be directed to sit at each end of the pews in the nave, while smaller fami-lies and individuals will be directed to the pews in the transepts. Again, thank
you for your cooperation and patience with St. Pius X’s staff, volunteers and each other. It has really been wonder-ful to worship God as an assembly in His beautiful church!
Graduations The graduation season would typically be celebrated in full with ceremonies and receptions this time of year. Even though those formalities will not be in place as they had been in previous years, we can still congratulate all of our high school graduates of the Class of 2020 from St. Thomas More, Teurlings, John Paul the Great, Comeaux High School and our home schools! We especially celebrate the graduates of St. Pius Elementary School, our parish school, which held its Send Forth Mass and end of year awards in our church Friday night. College students are also gradu-ating, and we congratulate all of them as well.
May God Bless all of you as you move into the next phase of your lives. Our hope is that you always remember and appreciate the gift that God and your families have given to you in your edu-cation, and that you always use that gift for the good of yourselves in grow-ing closer to God, and for the good of others in your service to them. Jesus expects no less!
First Communion & Confirmations We are finalizing the details for this year’s First Communion and Confirma-tion classes, both some 100 in number. The reception of these two sacraments was postponed due to the pandemic, and we hope to reschedule the sacra-ments for both classes in the coming month or so. The candidates of both classes have been preparing since last Fall for this day, and it will soon ar-rive. As many of you know, First Com-munion is my favorite day of the year. To see the reverence and awe with which the first communicants re-ceive The Holy Eucharist reminds me of the special moment it can be for each of us every day and certainly renews and refreshes my faith. Also, our young adults preparing to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation are inspir-ing, both in their zeal for and knowledge of the faith that they have exhibited over the course of their prep-aration. If these young men and wom-en continue to grow in their faith and become the leaders of our Church in the future, then our Church will be in great shape! Please pray for the chil-dren, young adults and their families, and of course we should all renew our appreciation for the gift of The Holy Eucharist and The Holy Spirit that Je-sus gave us as a perpetual strengthen-ing of our life in Him.

all of our children are welcome. Masks are recommended, but not required (we will
have a limited number for distribution at Mass if you forget to bring one).

prior to arrival. For emergency bathroom needs, the only available bathrooms with be those in the hallway by the covered drop off.
ARRIVAL PROCEDURE Parking is available campus wide. The church will be opened at least 30 minutes before
Mass time. Enter through the center door on the plaza where you
will be directed to your seat. Due to the current situation, you will not be able to
choose your seats. Larger families will sit in the nave, smaller families in
the transepts. All seating will be from the aisle on each side of the pew
inward with a 6 foot marking for the space between families.

sheets, bulletins, etc.). Unfortunately, visiting with clergy after Mass is not
possible at this time.

Continued Prayers for the COVID-19 Pandemic This simple, three-part format for prayer is offered for those who wish to pray about the COVID-19 pandemic. It is important to remember that we are always united as members of the Body of Christ, especially when we pray, and in communion with the saints, who continue to intercede on our behalf.
The order of prayer includes: an invitation to prayer, scrip-ture reading, litany of inter-cession, and a concluding prayer.
1. Invitation to Prayer (in these or similar words....) During times of crisis, in moments of doubt, during periods of isolation, through seasons of uncertainty… we place our trust in our loving God.
Let us open our hearts to God’s word. In communion with the saints, in soli-darity with the suffering, and united with all people of good will, we pray for all whose lives have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
2. Scripture 1 John 3: 14,16 Beloved: We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our broth-ers and sisters. Whoever does not love remains in death.
The way we came to know love was that he laid down his life for us; so we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
If someone who has worldly means sees a brother or sister in need and re-fuses to offer compassion, how can the love of God remain in that person?
Children, let us love not in word or speech, but in deed and truth. Readings are taken from Lectionary for Mass, Volume IV, © 2001, 1998, 1992, 1986, 1970, Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. All rights reserved. Used with permission.
3. Litany • Litany of Intercession For researchers working to develop effective treatments and vaccines; For administrators, staff, and medical per-sonnel working in hospitals; For para-medics, ambulance drivers, and all first responders; For active-duty service men and women, and for reservists called to serve; For all who care for nursing home residents; For psycholo-gists, counselors, therapists, social workers, and hospital chaplains.
For people who are sick with COVID-19, especially those who are seriously ill; For seniors and people with under-lying conditions, who are especially vulnerable; For people in countries lacking sufficient resources to respond effectively to the crisis.
For friends and loved ones who are unable to be together; For people who are feeling isolated, alone, or anxious; For troubled families who find extend-ed time at home especially difficult; For federal, state, and local leaders of government; For the staff of FEMA & other emergency response agencies; For public health officials at the national, state, and local levels; For those charged with communicating official information to the public; For journal-ists, writers, reporters, broadcasters, and online news services;
For families and individuals struggling with financial hardship; For small busi-nesses struggling to stay afloat; For teachers and professors, school admin-istrators, and staff members; For ele-mentary, high school, and college stu-
dents at home; For parents who are working and caring for children at home; For em-ployees who are finding new ways to work remotely.
For people who continue to work in essential positions; For mail carriers, delivery services, package handlers, and drivers; For staff who clean and sanitize buildings; For retail employees who are working longer shifts and additional days; For cooks,
bakers, and servers who continue to provide meals; For volunteers who serve in food pantries, in homeless shelters, and at blood drives; For peo-ple with resources who are sharing them generously; For poets, composers, artists, and musicians; For pastors, par-ish coordinators, and parish staff mem-bers; For all who are finding innovative ways to provide pastoral care.
For those who are not following social distancing or “stay at home” directives; For those whose behavior puts them-selves and others at risk; For patience during fast-changing circumstances and long stays at home; For the courage to focus on long-term goals rather than short-term inconveniences; For greater faith during this time of uncertainty and doubt; For greater hope as we face an unknown future; For greater love as we share the burdens of the corona-virus pandemic.
4. Concluding Prayer • The Prayers of All
Eternal God, You alone created us. You alone sustain us. You alone give us life and breath each day. Hear our prayers and those of the saints, as well as the cries of peo-ple everywhere who are suffering and afraid. Give us the heart to see beyond our own desires and needs, and to do whatever we can to foster the good of all. We pray through Christ our Lord. Provided by J.S. Paluch; Steve Janco, Program for Music and Liturgy, Alverno College

A Perfect Gift Read the full version at usccb.org/perfect-gift.
Soon after the birth of my son Charlie,* who has Down syndrome, a visitor asked whether he was “mild, moderate, or se-vere”—referring to his lev-el of cognitive impairment. I was shocked. In my arms I held my beautiful baby boy, who defied easy categorization.
It’s like looking at stained glass from the outside: the colors look dark, and you can’t see the figures. But inside, with the sun shining through, the effect can be brilliant. From inside our family, love illuminates our life with Charlie. What may seem dreary to others, perhaps even unbearable, is actually filled with beauty and color. Our love has nothing to do with his abilities. We love him simply because of who he is, and understanding this teaches us a fundamental truth: every life is a good and perfect gift.

First Mass Celebrations
Sunday, June 7th 8:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. (Mass of Thanksgiving) Fr. Andrew Killeen will be available after both Masses to give blessings.
Hello St. Pius X parishioners! On June 6, 2020, Bishop Douglas De-shotel will ordain myself and Dcn. John Joseph of Jesus Crucified to the order of the priesthood.
Ever since I was young, I have always felt this call. Many of you can testify because so many of you and your prayers have helped me with this journey. I vividly remember watching the late Msgr. Mouton celebrate mass and saying to myself, “I could do that.” It is humbling to know that I will soon be able to follow in the footsteps of so many priests who helped formed me.
First and foremost, I thank my parents, Daniel, and Lisa Killeen, for their constant love and support. I also thank the faculty and staff of the church and school where my voca-tion to the priesthood was fostered and nourished. Finally, I thank all of you, the parishioners of St. Pius, who have helped me through these many years.
I would not be where I am today if it was not for this church parish. Please know that everyone here will always hold a special place in my heart. Also, I am scheduled to celebrate the 8 am and 10:30 am Sunday masses on June 7th. I hope to see many of you there. Please continue to keep me in your prayers as I begin this new chapter of my life.
