Pennsylvania Dutch Council Camporee

Scouts,

I am pleased and excited to announce our 2017 Council Camporee. It will be held on May 5-7 when we are expecting over 1500 Scouts and leaders to converge on Long Park in Lancaster, PA. This is a great opportunity to participate and see Scouting in action. It is sure to be a fun, interesting and a memorable scouting experi-ence. The theme of the Camporee is TIME TRAVEL- Facts, Theories, Paradoxes, and Possibilities.

Proposed activities being planned are, Building a Pyramid, Competing in a Chariot Race, Make a Mummy, Shoe a Horse, Build a Viking Ship, Play in a Rock N Roll Band, Milk a Cow, Build a Cabin or a Hovercraft and other fun activities. More information on the entire event can be found in this Guidebook. In addition, we are going to have a very entertaining camp wide program on Saturday night and each of you will be a participant.

On behalf of the PA Dutch Council, I would like to thank the Camporee Committees, The Long Park staff, and the City of Lancaster for their assistance in helping organize, plan and coordinate this event. It is my hope and the hope of the Camporee Committees that each Scout will encounter a meaningful experience this weekend.

TIME TRAVEL,

Facts, Theories, Paradoxes, Possibilities.

There will be a lot of events and stations to see and do. We’ve broken it down into 4 main areas, each

focusing on one Era of TIME. Era’s are named Mummies, Toga’s & Firecrackers - King of Thrones - Hear & Now

- Return to the Future. In each area there will be events for scouts to do. Some stations may only be for Boy

Scouts/Venturers, others just for Cubs, and others will be for scouts of all ages. To keep a balance in the num-

ber of stations in each area, there may be some crossing over of some Era’s into other areas. This will help to

keep an even ratio of scouts to activities, giving scouts a full day of activities to keep them engaged.

Following is a list of some of the activities and programs that we plan on having at the event. As we work

through the list of events, we will drop some, and add others in their place. We are constantly looking for ideas

that can improve or add to what we already have. A final list of stations and corresponding map will be

published closer to the camporee date.

The stations/activities listed may or may not be the actual stations at the camporee, as well as many ad-

ditional stations being added as we move forward

Trash & Recycling Trash and recycling bins will be provided by Long’s Park and will be located through-

out the park. It is the responsibility of every Scout and Scouter to leave the park

cleaner then we found it.

At the time of this guidebook being published Long’s Park has instructed us that all

“grey water” from dishes and cooking, be poured into the sinks or toilets in the public

restrooms. It is important to note that it SHOULD NOT be poured in any of the Porta-

Potties on site.

Drinking Water The City of Lancaster will attach fixtures to fire hydrants to make water available to

everyone. There are also faucets available outside of each restroom.

Troop Trailers & Tarps/Canopies Parking of troop trailers WILL NOT be allowed on the grass, and probably WILL NOT

be close to your campsite. Camporee Security & Parking Staff will instruct you, when

you arrive at the Camporee, where troop trailers will be permitted to park. Vehicles

may not remain attached to trailers. Vehicles will be parked at a different location.

(this is a Longs Park Rule)

Tents with sides may not exceed 100 square feet. Tarps/canopies/carports without

sides do not have size restrictions.

Security

This Camporee will be held at Long’s Park, which is a public park owned by the City of

Lancaster. We have rented the entire park, BUT, since it is a public park it will be

opened to the public. As with most public places there are problems from time to time,

and Long’s Park is no exception. Because of this, it is important that we establish cer-

tain SECURITY rules, and that we must insist that these rules be adhered to by every-

one.

1. Any and all directions given by Camporee Staff, Camporee Security Staff, Long’s Park

Staff or Lancaster City Police must be followed. Failure to follow these directions

could result in dismissal from the Camporee. If anyone is dismissed for this reason,

NO REFUND WILL BE GIVEN.

2. All youth must follow the BUDDY system.

3. DO NOT bring valuable personal items.

4. Suspicious activity must be reported to Camporee Security Staff as soon as possible.

5. Youth should not leave Long’s Park, unless asked to do so by their unit leader. (There

should be no reason for youth to be at the Park City Mall.)

6. Vehicle traffic must be allowed to travel through the park during normal park hours.

Extreme care must be taken when youth are crossing any roadways.

7. The Camporee Security Staff will have roving patrols all day and all night. Again, if

you have any concerns please share them with the Camporee Security Staff.

On the following page is a “Souvenir Pre-Order Form”. Prices have not been set as of January

30, 2017. We included this page now, so you could see what souvenir items may be available.

This list could change. As soon as we receive all pricing from vendors we will publish a final

list of available items with prices. There will not be a trading post at the Camporee. If

you desire a souvenir from the 2017 Time Travel Camporee it must be pre-ordered.

BOY SCOUT TROOPS

How would you like to grow the size of your troop?

It’s fairly simple, and the Camporee can help you.

Invite a pack that is attending the camporee on Satur-

day, to have Lunch and Dinner with you. Let the Cubs

and their parents meet the Scouts & Adult leaders. It’s

up to each unit whether to charge the Cubs & parents.

Or just treat them to two meals.
