This week the Pope’s twitter page ( Pontifex.com) surpassed 6 million, and people’s enthusiasm for him shows no sign of dying down. 100 thousand faithful crammed into St. Pius XI Square - which is adjacent to St. Peter’s Square – to hear his Wednesday General Audience. Wearing his signature black scuffed shoes, Jorge Mario Bergoglio ( Pope Francis 1) gave his usual kisses to a number of children who were passed to him by the Vatican police, and rode through the crowd that soon flooded St. Peter’s Square, in the usual open white jeep. Often he jumped down to greet the faithful and bless the people. In his customary morning mass Ferverino at St Martha’s house dormitory (where he lives) he said: “When a Christian community’s disciples grow & multiply this is a good thing, but we must work to attract more members to help in these efforts. He explained in depth at his Wednesday audience , “The Church, grows slowly from below. The path Jesus chose for his Church is a different one: he chose the difficult path, the path of the Cross, the path of perse- cution.” This makes us stop and think, “What is this Church? Our Church? Because it seems like it isn’t a human doing.” The Church is indeed something quite different: it is not the disciples that made the Church what it is—they were envoys sent by Jesus. It is this Jesus Christ, the beloved Son, who is sent to us by the lover our Father”. Continued inside page 3 The SFO / Secular Franciscan Order meets on the 2nd Saturday’s. Pope Francis Continued :

“The Church begins there, “in the heart of the

Father, who had this idea . . . of love. So this love

story began, a story that has gone on for so long,

and is not yet ended!

We, the women and men of the Church, we are in

the middle of a love story — each of us is a link in

this chain of love. And if we do not understand this,

we have understood nothing of what the

Church is." “But how does it increase?

Jesus said simply: ‘like the mustard seed!’ Yes, it

grows like yeast in the flour, without noise. When

the Church boasts about its size, creating organiza-

tions & offices - a bureaucracy — she loses her key

substance and runs the risk of turning into a

Non-Government Corporation.

Our Church is not this! It's a love story ...

But there are those who say, “ ... excuse me, eh?

Now some things are necessary, offices are re-

quired!” OK, they are necessary up to a certain

point: as an aid to this love story. But when organi-

zation and legalistic demands take

first place, love falls down and the

Church, poor thing, becomes

entrenched in this legalism —

wounding the loving heart. This is

not the way forward!" Vatican news
