ForewordHellooooo! And welcome to our Summer Season at The Quay Theatre.Additional to our programme this year is live streaming from Glyndebourne of ‘Madama Butterfly’, ‘Saul’ and ‘Vanessa’. We also have Sunday Cinema once a month in collaboration with $10 Chimp who previously brought us our Saturday Sudbury Cinema for a Day. These show pre-DVD popular films just after they have finished on general release from the chain cinemas.

A new short drama course for 7-10 year olds arrives in August from Newfangled Theatre which captures the age-group not covered by our regular Summer School for Performing Arts (10-16).

As ever, we are constantly seeking to improve your experience of our multi-faceted venue and as such, large refurbishment ideas are being investigated, more on which at a later date.

Shows are constantly being added to our schedule so for up-to-date information, please visit our website or join our email list for updates.Enjoy your Spring/Summer and we hope to see you some time soon!

JEREMY NICHOLAS: STORIES FROM MY DISASTROUS BROADCASTING CAREERSat 30th Jun 8:00pm Tickets: £8

Based on true-life stories from Jeremy’s 27 years in broadcasting, mainly with the BBC. It’s like a stand-up comedy show, except all the stories are true.He tells how he learnt to do great on-air pauses at the BBC World Service, but not always in the right place. There’s the time he was ambushed live on radio by an armed gunman who claimed to be Jesus. And there’s the massive mistake he made to a global TV audience at London 2012 when commentating on the Paralympics. This is a not to be missed show, packed with laugh out loud moments. If you have children who play the FIFA video games you’ll know this man’s voice,

George prepares a breakfast, a lunch and a dinner using the most unconventional of methods.Expect power tools, gardening equipment and office supplies to be re-purposed and abused. Expect lots of laughs. Expect to learn something new. And you get to taste the food at the end!

as he’s been the stadium announcer on eleven consecutive FIFA games. An insightful and highly entertaining look at 27 years of trying not to get fired in broadcasting. Jeremy is an award-winning public speaker with over 10k followers, this hour promises to be razor sharp, witty and jam-packed with very funny anecdotes. An expert publicspeaker, you are definitely in safe hands with Jeremy Nicholas’ debut show.Jeremy also originates from Sudbury.

OH, WHAT A CARRY ON!Fri 6th Jul 7:30pm Tickets: £13 (Friends £12)

In the March of 1958 cameras started rolling on a cheap and cheerful black and white comedy about the madcap exploits of a bunch of hapless National Service recruits. The film was Carry On Sergeant and its popularity kick-started British film's most endearing franchise. The flaring nostrils of Kenneth Williams, the crumpled leer of Sid James, the cheeky giggle of Barbara Windsor, and the bespectacled high camp of Charles Hawtrey remain a vital part of the national bloodstream.

Now comedy historian and author of The Carry On Companion Robert Ross takes you behind the scenes of a comedy institution. This is the Carry On story. Naughty but nice... "Robert is a one-man encyclopaedia of the very best of British comedy."Jim Dale MBE

We will be running Dementia Friendly screenings of classical musical films at the Quay once a month from

May through to August.

These will usually be on a Monday and we will be publicising them nearer the time, online and in the Sudbury Mercury. The seats will be free to book for dementia

sufferers and their carers and we anticipate that most spaces will be taken up by local care homes. We are looking also to fund transportation from these homes.

We would like to say a huge thank you to the Sudbury Flower Club,

Sudbury McColls, The Arts Society Sudbury, and all those individuals who donated in order for us to set up these screenings.

If you would like to donate to the continued support of this venture, please go to

https://mydonate.bt.com/charities/dementia-friendlyscreenings or contact the Box Office.

Many thanks!

As a registered charity AND a business we are constantly striving to be self-sufficient, whilst offering volunteering opportunities and subsidised events/courses for young people and families.

However, even with the help of Sudbury Town Council and Babergh & Mid Suffolk District Council, there are still essential works and maintenance that we have to pay for on a rolling basis.

Last year we obtained grants and received sponsorship for work such as refurbishing the auditorium and re-laying the car park. Our next projects for which we need to raise funds, are just as fundamental to the continued success of The Quay. When booking for a show a £1.00 flat donation is added to the transaction. Customers can opt out of this when making a booking as they wish. We do not charge booking fees or credit card fees.

We have a small merry band of volunteer fundraisers who run the Quay Pool, the raffles and the Gallery, who are invaluable in aiding financially with both small and large projects, but we are always looking for new ideas.

If you would like to be of immediate support to us (apart from buying tickets to shows!), you can become a Friend of The Quay. This is an annual payment of £20 which allows you money off certain shows and films. You can also receive a free tea / coffee or specified soft drink before a performance you are seeing.

Even more enticing is The Quay Pool. For £5.00 a month you are entered into a monthly draw where there are prizes of £100, and two prizes of £25.00. There is also a Christmas draw with amounts of £1,000, £250.00 and £125.00. Your odds are better than the National Lottery and you’ll know exactly where your money is going – to support your local theatre!

Just call the Box Office or email [email protected] for more information or to apply to be a Friend or to join The Quay Pool.
