MAY MONTHLY NEWSLETTER RECEPTION CLASS Reception class this month have been looking at the topic of Toys and Leisure Time. ENGLISH In English, the children have been working on the letter sounds and names of Hh, Ii, Jj and Kk. We have learnt the correct formation of Hh, Ii, Jj and Kk. We have introduced the sight words he, I, it, is and in. We have read stories related to toys and leisure time. We made posters of the letters Hh, Ii, Jj and Kk. In show and tell sessions the class have brought in their favorite toys. They have asked questions about the toys and talked about the materials they are made from, how they move and if they make a sound. We have made books about jeans and jackets for the letter Jj and drawn four items beginning with the letter Kk such as king, key, kid and kite. We are developing and improving the formation of the letters in our name and surname. The children are also trying to copy some simple words from the whiteboard. MATHEMATICS In Maths lessons, reception have sorted toys according to shape, size and made sets of toys. We have made animals using 2D shapes, such as a triangle dog and a rectangle snail. We made clocks and have practised telling the o´clock times. We have also looked at different pictures and identified the difference between day time and night time. Reception have had a go at playing and learning the rules to games such as bingo and ludo. We have continued to learn the correct formation of numbers 7, 8, 9 and 10. We have made groups and counted unifix cube towers to 7, 8, 9 and 10. The children have written what number comes after each number from 1 to 20.

MAY MONTHLY NEWSLETTER RECEPTION CLASS

Reception class this month have been looking at the topic of Toys and Leisure Time.

ENGLISH

In English, the children have been working on the letter sounds and names of Hh, Ii, Jj and Kk. We have learnt the correct formation of Hh, Ii, Jj and Kk. We have introduced the sight words he, I, it, is and in. We have read stories related to toys and leisure time. We made posters of the letters Hh, Ii, Jj and Kk. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD

The class have made moveable teddy bears using paper fasteners. Also we have made horses for the letter Hh, dragonfly (insect) for the letter Ii, out of recycled materials, jellyfish for the letter Jj and kites for the letter K. We have investigated the materials used to make toys such as fur, wood, plastic, stuffing, pellets and polystyrene. We have studied how toys move, talk and make sounds. We have learnt that wood comes from trees and wool comes from sheep. We have identified old and new toys. We compared old and new dolls, teddy bears and skipping ropes.

MUSIC

In class we have learnt songs such as Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear touch your nose, touch your toes, turn around, touch the ground and Happy Mother´s Day using actions. We have practiced the Jolly Phonics alphabet songs for letters Hh, Ii, Jj and Kk.

ART

In art classes with Miss Jeanette the class has learnt the colors of the rainbow and painted a rainbow. They also observed the school sheep and molded sheep out of plasticine. With Miss Sandra we have made an owl puppet using a brown paper bag and paper.

Reception class have thoroughly enjoyed the topic of toys this month and we are looking forward to learning from our topic of Dinosaurs in June.
