NEW YORK

GALERIE NEGROPONTES - STAND B5

The Gallery continues to celebrate its fifth anniversary, taking advantage of the unmissable contemporary art fair to showcase its novelties on the other side of the Atlantic. Rediscover the sculptural and iconic pieces signed by Hervé Langlais, but also exquisite glass pieces by French sculptors duo Perrin & Perrin. On particular highlight is the "Storyboard" installation, mixing "build in glass" and Corten steel. Variety and dexterity that once again place the Gallery at the heart of the renewal of the French Decorative Arts.

POUENAT - STAND A1

The artisan ironworker has earned a strong reptutation worldwide, not only for its legendary restoration work but also for its high-end contemporary furniture editions. Featuring prestigious handpicked collaborations, the Pouenat House has a thing for great architects and interior designers. In New-York, new pieces by the internationally acclaimed Jean-Louis Deniot will be introduced for a full-on French Touch effect. Success guaranteed.

REDA AMALOU DESIGN - STAND 2141

Counterpart of the AW2 architecture studio, Reda Amadou Design will be exhibiting its elegant and functional pieces - the Lanka armchair with its mahogany and burnt oak veneer structure contrasted against its steel bars. The Link collection, encompassing benches, stools and coffee tables of such apparent simplicity one easily forgets the elements work as well together as they do separately. Or the Dot a sidetable contemporary re-interpretation of the traditional Asian stool.

May 2017 - 4

Pouenat was first recognized for its traditional

craftsmanship as an art ironworker. From there,

how does one become an editor of limited edition

contemporary furniture?

Jacques Rayet: In the late 1990s and early 2000s, sales

of classical style Pouenat products, created twenty or

thirty years earlier by Henri Pouenat, were not developing

anymore. At the same time, we were making custom-

made furniture pieces, at the request of creator architects,

in addition to our activity of ironwork and locksmithery.

They were beautiful products, created for hospitality or

private residence projects. It soon became obvious to turn

to these creators to imagine contemporary products that

we could manufacture and sell, and thus compensate for

the weak sales of more traditional products.

You have new pieces signed by Sybille de Margerie,

Tristan Auer, Damien Langlois-Meurinne. Others by

François Champsaur or Jean-Louis Deniot. How are

these collaborations born?

J.R.: Collaborations with creators are born of a relationship

built on projects, either of building ironwork-locksmith

or around interior layout or bespoke furniture. Architects

understand our varied savoir-faire of metal and assimilate

the various finishes implemented in our workshops. We

then grant them carte blanche to design their very own

universe of metal furniture, by initially drawing five to eight

pieces. Our idea is to beautifully manufacture an elegant

design, delivering a high-end result.

Among your novelties, there are many alabaster pieces

but also LED ones. How are exceptional materials

combined with the latest technological developments?

J. R.: The combination of different materials with metal

is a constant challenge for our design office. They have to

transform the artistic drawing into a technological plan

while respecting its original aesthetics. This transformation

- one of our added values - makes the product feasible

for our construction and finishing workshops. These

associations are therefore made by knowing the

manufacturing technologies, and the different materials

or components. But foremost, thanks to the creativity

of the technicians in our design office demonstrate to

assemble these numerous elements, all while respecting

the design and finishes provided by the designer.

D'DAYS

RÉVÉLATIONS

Musée des Arts Décoratifs 107, rue de Rivoli, Paris 1st

From May 3rd to 14th.

Grand Palais3, avenue du Général Eisenhower, Paris 8th

Wednesday May 3rd, 15:00 - 18:00 : Press preview. From May 3rd to 8th

KARTELL

As we know, the Italian editor likes to multiply the sources of inspiration and always pull one step further away from itself to nourish its creativity. This year, it is a project born from the collaboration with New-Zealand artist of Maori culture George Nuku that will be presented at D’Days. Nuku masterfully reinterprets some of the most iconic products of the brand through sculpture techniques and traditional Maori shapes. The furniture pieces revisited by Nuku combine the Rococo and Maori styles creating a harmonious ensemble, transcending the transparent material and sublimating it with forms inspired by nature.

POUENAT - STAND I5

Since 2003, the French ironworker established in Moulins, in Allier center of France’s region, has been creating lighting fixtures and furniture pieces hand in hand with the greatest architects and designers. Steel, stainless steel, brass, aluminium, copper, or bronze, as well as precious metals here paired with glass, wood, ceramic, stones, staff or fabrics for exceptional pieces. This year, it is Isabelle Stanislas, yet another star of French architecture, who enters the editor’s catalogue. In addition to a spectacular sconce, Pouenat also unveils a coffee table and the Line-Stream 01 and 02 sofa and armchair, all suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

Tailor made pieces and rare materials, your approach

seems very close to Couture?

Stéphanie Coutas: Each project is made up of encounters.

With a place first, which exudes an architectural history, an

emotion, a particular light. Then with our clients, all unique,

often exciting by their culture and personality. These

encounters mark the beginning of an adventure. I love the

idea of Haute-Couture which expresses the very essence

of beauty, of a liberated creativity under the direction

of a creator. My job: to seek only the best, to sublimate

materials and to always look out for new finishes, with the

goal of delivering unique and refined places. Comfort, joie

de vivre and charm, those are essential characteristics of

luxury in my eyes.

From collaborations with great Houses to hospitality,

what is your red thread?

S.C: Each development calls for a result that is both

useful and beautiful. The Paris chandelier, for the House

of Baccarat, was a challenge because I wanted it to be

colossal (1.80m in diameter) without it requiring a ceiling

height of 4m. After months of research, we managed to

produce it. Very Baccarat in its DNA, yet it resembles us as

well. In May, we will present a pair of XXL rugs developed

with the House of Tai Ping. Their embroideries required

months of work and a mix of ancestral and contemporary

techniques. The hospitality industry requires a much more

supervised frame of work because its technical constraints

are more demanding. Creativity is guided by many criteria,

which must never distort the essence of the place. It is

interesting to imagine public places where very different

people will pass. I put myself in their place, in a way, they

are my clients.

You make the work of many art artisans radiate around

the world and are also fond of art. Are those aspects keys

to the understanding of the Stéphanie Coutas style?

S.C: Yes, art holds an important place in my work. It is

omnipresent, it is a different, personal outlook, that I carry

on the world surrounding me. I have very eclectic tastes:

I can buy a magnificent and expensive piece at a trade

show, or transform an object brought back from one of

my travels. Most of the time, I develop my projects with our

partners. Artists, painters, embroiderers, cabinetmakers,

ceramists, people of great talent, that the whole world

envies us! I am very proud of our country and fight

modestly to make this French specificity radiate in the

world of international luxury.

FRAME BRASSERIE28, rue Jean Rey, Paris 15th

HOTEL MONTALEMBERT

Food TruckEvery day from May to October, from 10:00 to 19:00.

The Terrace3, rue Montalembert, Paris 7th

The Californian brasserie puts its vegetable garden at the disposal of yogi Fabrice Tyack for a course of Vinyasa yoga. On the program, an hour and a half of dynamic yoga in music, covering the most basic postures to the most advanced ones. Thus, beginners or advanced, everyone will enjoy participating in this re-energizing journey. And at 12:45, rendez-vous at the restaurant for a brunch as copious as it is healthy.

Always willing to put conviviality at the heart of the experience it offers, Frame brasserie takes its cuisine to the street. Thanks to its Food Truck, ideally located in front of the restaurant just a few steps away from the Eiffel Tower, the daily delicacies of the Californian chef Andrew Wigger are always at hand. On the menu, burritos, hot dogs, bao paps and poke bowls in the purest West Coast tradition.

Founded in 1926, the Montalembert has just finished its gentle renovation. In the beginning of 2016, suites, rooms, the lobby, bar and restaurant were undergoing a rejuvenation engineered by architect Pascal Allaman, with an essential feminine touch by Géraldine Prieur. Since its reopening in September, its mythical terrace has unfortunately remained inaccessible. Good news though as with Spring upon us, this Rive Fauche must reopens its doors. The perfect opportunity to (re)discover the wellness cuisine of chef David Maroleau or the explosive cocktails of mixologist David Bréard, all while enjoying the most Parisian of panoramas.

ALEXANDRA PUBLIC RELATIONS CHANGES OFFICES

Serving her prestigious brands and personalities for 15 years, Alexandra Poster Bennaim has always had heart the concern of meeting the expecations of her clients. Attentive to the evolution of the profession, Alexandra has observed for several years the growing importance of image, both in the face of traditional media and social networks. But, paradoxically, she noticed that there are only a few photographic studios in Paris. Thus the desire to found her own studio was born, going even further in the accompaniment of her clients and also opening to other facets of creation. A desire that Alexandra finally achieved in her new offices at 14 rue Léonard de Vinci. On the lower floor, a spacious, fully equipped and adaptable set, opens today and welcomes you for all your photographic needs, from the simplest one to the most complex.
