New Ordinances- Controlled substances

SUBJECT: An Ordinance Providing For Enforcement Of Additional Remedies For

Maintaining A Public Nuisance In Violation Of The Illinois Controlled Substances

Act, The Methamphetamine Control And Community Protection Act, Or The

Cannabis Control Act

SUMMARY AND BACKGROUND OF SUBJECT MATTER:

This amendment to the Centralia Municipal Code will allow the Police Chief to declare a

building used in the commission of a drug offense a public nuisance. This will allow the

Chief of Police to secure the building and prohibit it from being occupied until it has been

inspected by the Centralia Police Department or any other law enforcement agency in

addition to the Centralia Code Enforcement Department for compliance of building codes.

This will also allow a lien to be placed on the property for the costs incurred by the City in

order for the law enforcement officers and the code enforcement officers to perform their

duties while enforcing and declaring the building a public nuisance.
