The School Liaison Program is coordinating with other Marine and Family Programs to facilitate various educational classes designed to support local home-schooling families. These classes include college information and preparation, personal �nancial management, stress manage-ment, health and �tness educa-tion, physical education and library resources. These e�ective and engaging educational classes directly support the children of our mobile military families.

All home school students of active duty parents are eligible. Please register for classes in advance at 252-466-7648. For more information or questions, please contact Leafa Palmer, School Liaison, at 252-466-7648.

This introductory class will focus on an overview of the library. We will have a discussion about classi�cation systems and go on a tour of the Marine Warrior Library. The librarian will guide the class through searching the catalog for items by title, author, subject, year of publication, and more. We will close with hands on practice of �nding some desired books!

This class will focus on non-books in the library and see examples of other things the library has to o�er. We will also learn how to �nd knowledge through databases. We will discuss the many uses of databases, where you can �nd them, and how to use them. Throughout the class, we will also learn about evaluating sources and how to know if what we have is best for information or entertainment. We will close with a hands-on activity!

An Education Specialist will teach you how to navigate resources and discuss topics such as online research resourc-es, selecting the right school, online degrees, and vocation-al-technical opportunities. Other topics will include institutional and specialized accreditations, college entrance exams, and �nancial aid (federal, state, scholarships).

An Education Specialist will provide general tips and sugges-tions appropriate to the age group. Subjects will include time management, general study skills, and how to best prepare for a test.

This interactive workshop introduces teens to the essential components of personal �nancial management. They will be educated on budgeting basics, the importance of savings, understanding needs versus wants, wise uses of credit, and �nancial institutions. Teens will work together to create budgets, learn tips and challenges , and share lessons learned.

This workshop introduces teens to the procedures to obtain a work permit and provides hands on practice for completing work applications. Information on certi�cations and volunteer opportunities that could lead to employment will be discussed. Job announcements and applications for summer employment will also be provided.

YOUNGER CHILDRENThis class will teach you why activity is important. You’ll learn some fun ways of participating in physical activity using Captain 5 A Days song games.

OLDER CHILDRENThis class will teach the basics of physical �tness to include how to learn what frequency, intensity, time and type of exercise is best for certain goals. You will learn why rest is important and what makes your body function to its full capacity.

YOUNGER CHILDRENStudents will learn the basic food groups and how important it is to consume fruits and vegeta-bles each day. We will complete a hands-on activity throughout the class!

OLDER CHILDRENThis class will teach you about what macronutrients and micro-nutrients are, why they are important and how to determine the amount you need. You will learn about your resting metabolic rate as well as what food groups help with what activities.

YOUNGER CHILDRENJoin us and learn about your muscle �bers and how food a�ects the muscle �bers in an interactive class.

OLDER CHILDRENYou will learn the small details of how the body breaks down food and how it is used to make your muscles move and groove. You will learn what helps with digestion and what helps with midday fatigue.

You will learn the basics of First Aid and CPR but will not receive a certi�cation card. This will help you understand how to handle a situation that requires immedi-ate attention while waiting for EMS and what the legal aspect is in regards to First Aid/CPR.
