MD 28 over the Monocacy River Bridge Rehabilitation Project PROJECT ANNOUNCEMENT SUMMER 2017 The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) has scheduled the rehabilitation of the bridge on MD 28 (Dickerson Road) over the Monocacy River in Frederick County. The project will replace the riding surface and make structural repairs to improve safety. Bridge work will last approximately eight months, with traffic maintained on the bridge utilizing one alternating lane controlled by a temporary traffic signal. However, there will be short periods (limited to weekends, nights and off peak day time hours) when MD 28 will be closed and traffic detoured in order to complete certain tasks such as pouring the concrete deck. For additional information, you are invited to attend a public meeting scheduled for September, 26, 2017 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (see back for meeting details).The purpose of the meeting is to acquaint the public with the project and provide attendees an opportunity to discuss project details. Displays will depict the expected traffic impacts and the proposed improvements to the bridge, and MDOT SHA representatives will be available to answer questions. No formal presentation will be given. You may arrive at any time during meeting hours and walk through the display area at your own pace. Constructed in 1931, the bridge on MD 28 is safe for the traveling public, but requires repairs to extend the life of the bridge. The work to be performed will include: Replacement of the concrete riding surface on the bridge Repairs to the steel frame and the bridge supports Painting the steel framework Removal of debris under the bridge Rehabilitating the bridge will reduce maintenance costs and support the safety and mobility of motorists. The project is part of MDOT SHA’s bridge system preservation program, which provides reliable bridges in a timely manner. How will traffic be impacted during construction? For a majority of the project duration, both directions of traffic will be maintained utilizing one alternating lane controlled by a traffic signal, however, MDOT SHA will close MD 28 for short periods (limited to weekends, nights and off peak day time hours) and detour traffic as needed during construction to complete construction activities in a safe manner. What are the proposed detour routes?
