Over the past 60 years, the importance of flow and level measure-ment has grown particularly because of their widespread use in accounting purposes, such as the custody transfer of fluid from supplier to consumer. Throughout this period, performance requirements have become more stringent with unrelenting pressure for improved reliability, accuracy, linearity, repeatability and rangeability.
These pressures have been caused by major changes in manufac-turing processes and because of several dramatic circumstantial changes such as the increase in the cost of fuel and raw materi-als, the need to minimise pollution, and the increasing pressures being brought to bear in order to adhere to the requirements for health and safety.
This course, Measurement uncertainty, custody transfer and loss control is designed to acquaint users with the problems and solutions associated with the need for high accuracy transfer of liquid petroleum products from supplier to customer.

Michael A. Crabtree (Mick) is a recognized instrumentation and process control expert by his peers. With over 45 years of indus-trial experience, he has spent the recent twelve years mentoring industrial workshops throughout the world in the petroleum industries, especially on the topic of Process Control and Instrumentation, Data Communications, Fieldbus Systems and Emergency Shut-down Systems. He has written relevant industrial technical handbooks on that. Furthermore, he has extensive experience and knowledge on Project Management and On-Line Analysis. He has led more than 5000 engineers, technicians and scientists on through-out the world, ranging from as far afield as Namibia, Alaska, Canada, USA, UK, the Middle East, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Trinidad.
In the early days of his dedicated career, Mick was in the Royal Air Force (RAF), trained in aircraft instrumentation and guided missiles with military precision. He completed his service career seconded to the Ministry of Defense responsible for ensuring the reliability, maintainability and functional usefulness of specific equipment entering the RAF. With this, Mick demonstrates high precision and criticality in his later career.degree from the University of Huddersfield, UK.
Whilst in the managerial position for a manufacturing and systems integration company, Mick adopted a hands-on approach working at the forefront of industrial control & instrumentation technology implementing and programming the first PLC-based system in South Africa. During this period he was also involved in a project implementing a DCS/SCADA/PLC interface system for the largest oil-from-gas project in the world. For several years he was also involved with a SCADA system hosted on the first ever Windows NT-based platform in the petrochemical industries.
Mick has received excellent reviews and positive feedback for all his courses. His down-to-earth, practical, and entertaining approach makes him a sought-after speaker and lecturer in a wide variety of disciplines.
Since1989, he has been actively involved in consultancy assignment with international corporations, specializing in industrial process control and instrumentation sector. Mick holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Huddersfield, UK.
