General DescriptionThe Mechanical Training Systems cover the installation, use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of mechanical drive components. The systems are divided into five levels, and each level is further divided into specific topics which deal with the components encountered in the industry. The learning is based on practical, hands-on tasks.

Engineered for ease of use, the systems come with a universal steel base unit on which the students prepare the setups using T-slotted extrusion bars. This innovative design allows the base to be configured as required by the task. The universal base includes a disconnecting switch, current meter, the controls required to operate the motors and the electromagnetic clutch-brake unit. It also includes a Start/Stop push-button station for local or remote operation. The universal base can be installed on a regular table as well as on other optional benches.

The learning is based on practical, hands-on tasks using industrial components such as pulleys, sprockets, gears, various types of belts, single- and multi-strand chains, several types of couplings, shafts, bearings, ball screws, clutches and brakes, and all the components required to assemble the proposed setups. Note that most of the components of the Mechanical Training System are machined using the imperial system of units.

CoursewareThe courseware consists of fully illustrated student manuals accompanied by an instructor guide. The manuals are divided into two categories: Job Sheets and Work Orders.

Job Sheets include a description of the objectives, a list of required equipment, safety procedures, and the detailed steps required to attain the objectives safely and efficiently. The topics are introduced in an Information Job Sheet. A post-test at the end of each manual allows the student to verify what was learned in the Job Sheets.

Work Orders can be used to evaluate students. They cover the same topics as the Job Sheets, but without the detailed procedures. Each Work Order includes a brief description of the task, a drawing of the equipment setup when necessary, and the general steps of the work to be done.

The instructor guides contain the measurements and calculation results as well as the answers to the post-tests.

The Mechanical Training System courseware also includes a reference textbook. Refer to the Table of Contents of the Student Manuals section for a list of the topics covered in the student manuals.

Universal Base Assembly 46603-00

The Universal Base Assembly consists of a universal base on which mechanical components are assembled, T-slotted extrusion bars, transparent safety panels, and security devices.

The universal base includes a disconnecting switch to control the power of the system, and the devices required to lock and tag the switch as

required by regulations.

Switches, knobs, power outlets, and a meter located on the control panel are used to control and monitor the universal base output power.

A Start/Stop push-button station including an emergency stop button is connected to the control panel.
