ARE YOU STILL GETTING CALLS FROM SCAMMERS?
We have received many calls this past month regarding telephone scams. They seem to be unrelenting in their pursuit of your money and will only continue. Our last phone caller stated that she received a call from a Kevin Mason who stated he was from the Treasury Department. There are numerous accounts on the internet of a Kevin Mason conducting this scam. If you were wanted by the IRS, or any other official government agency, you would receive a letter from them and not an harassing phone call. When you receive a call, and you don’t recognize the phone number, you can always let it go to voice mail so that you are not stuck in an intimidating conversation with thieves. According to the Attorney General’s office, scammers will call you to get personal info to scam you in the following ways:
• to conduct a survey on your satisfaction after purchasing or receiving a government service;
• to protect the call recipient from becoming the victim of fraud; • to claim a shopping spree or valuable gasoline coupons in return for a
minimal processing charge to be debited directly from your bank account or a pre-paid credit card;
• to qualify for a new government program or to continue in a current government program like Medicare or Social Security;
• to claim a prize or to be eligible for a pre-approved credit card, loan, or government grant;
• to dispute the victim's failure to report for jury duty, the consequence of which is being arrested;
• to qualify for discount programs; • to promote a program or charity tied to recent news events or
tragedies; • to pay to help a loved one in a medical or legal emergency; • to pay off a (bogus) past due payday loan debt, or face threatened
legal action; • to obtain an auto warranty or lower credit card interest rates.
Please report these calls to the Attorney General’s office or at least your local Sheriff’s office so they know how prevalent these scams are in Mecosta County. Cynthia

March News From The Senior Center…
Hello Friends!
An Irish Blessing to all of you: May your troubles be
less, your blessings be more, and nothing but
happiness come through your door!
Is Spring on its way? I hope so, I don’t mind a little of
the snow and dreary days but I am always ready for
Spring! Did you know that March is the National
Meals on Wheels Association’s “March For Meals
Hunger Awareness Month.” We are planning a week
long awareness campaign, most of you will recognize it as “Celebrity Server
Week.” To kick start the campaign we will be at Currie’s BP in Big Rapids on
Friday March 18th from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm having a Pie Eating Contest. We
will have special guest servers and also entertainment each day starting on
Monday March 21st thru Thursday March 24th. We hope you will join us as we
celebrate and help out our homebound seniors.
Just want to give you a reminder we will be closing at noon on Friday March
25th in observation of Good Friday! We will only be having our EnhanceFitness®
class and Line Dance class on that day.
There is a registration form for the Health Conference inside this newsletter, it is a
wonderful day filled with tons of information. I do hope you will come join us!
There is so much going on and I have only touched on a few things, so please
read your Keyhole cover to cover! We wouldn’t want you to miss out on a
great opportunity to enrich your lives. I am inviting all of you to come out to the
Senior Center, have some lunch and share some laughs. Hope to see you soon!
~Beth~

the nearest hospital, grocery store, senior center or pizza delivery? As we get older we’ll be less and less inclined to take longer trips and our definition of longer trips will get shorter and shorter. Don’t assume you will be able to drive forever. You may have to rely on public transportation, family or friends to get you where you need to go. Make sure that wherever you choose to live has the things you need to live a full, rich and healthy life so that you're not discouraged from utilizing them.
Does your current home allow you to have a social life and companionship? Aging in place sounds warm and fuzzy if you have a good support system of friends and neighbors but for some it can lead to a feeling of isola-tion.
How close are you to potential caregivers? If you think that you may have to rely on your children to assist in caregiving one day, then you should be close to them. Remote caregiving is difficult, if not impossible when children are working and raising their own children from far away. Moving out of the big city and heading north to the country to retire sounded like a great idea until you have a health crisis and are on your way to the ER.
There are many options to choose from, the trick is being open to new possibilities. Aging in place with a little bit of help (Meals on Wheels, in home help with cleaning or personal care, medical transportation, etc.) might be the way to go. Or checking into alternative options like apartment or condo living, adult foster care homes, assisted living in our area or moving closer to family and support. What worked for you at age 65 may not work for you at age 85.
Retirement living should be a joy. With thoughtful planning about where you will live, your home can also contribute to the joy of your retirement living and you can avoid it turning into a burden as you age.
In Home Services
March 2016
Aging in Place The choice many seniors are facing is to “age in place,” that is, remain in your home among familiar surroundings; or would it be better to move into an en-vironment that provides the ongoing resources and services you need to live a happy, secure and fulfilling life.
Every person and situation is unique but here are some things to consider when deciding if aging in place is right for you:
How accessible will your current home be as you lose mobility? Having that home on the lake with the beau-tiful views seemed like a great idea but climbing the flight of stairs to get to your front door while using a walker can be quite a challenge. A single story home or apartment with an elevator might make it easier to come and go as you please.
How much maintenance does your home need? Many seniors mow their own lawn and plow their own snow all winter. At some point though the yard may become a burden instead of a joy. Plan ahead and consider whether or not you can hire someone to as-sist you or consider other options like apartment or condo living.
How much house and stuff do you really need? Are you still living in the home you raised your children in? Downsizing may be a good option. A larger home means extra cleaning, extra furniture, extra utilities, extra repairs and extra stuff. If you’re storing heir-looms for the children, then give them to the children. Have a frank discussion with them about your plans and what heirlooms they actually want. Take a good look around your home to determine the things you use and what’s most important to hold on to. How close is your home to key facilities? How far is

May there always be work for your hands to do.
May your purse always hold a coin or two.
May the sun always shine warm on your windowpane.
May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain.
May the hand of a friend always be near you.
And may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
Irish Blessings
