Chartered by Congress in 1958, the Congressional Medal of Honor Society's membership is comprised of those who wear the Medal of Honor, our nation's highest military award for valor. As individuals who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, the Medal of Honor Recipients are committed to serving our country in peace as they did in war by championing the values of courage, sacrifice, integrity, commitment, patriotism, and citizenship. That mission has become increasingly important as the number of living Medal of Honor Recipients continues to decrease. The non-profit Society preserves their stories and shares their values through Outreach and Education initiatives. By serving, remembering, supporting, and honoring the sacrifice of the Recipients, by sharing the stories and values inherent in them, we understand the responsibility and potential within each one of us to impact the world.

The Medal of Honor Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit established in 1999 to advance the mission and provide a path for financial support of the Congressional Medal of Honor Society.

Today, the Society creates a bond between Recipients while keeping their memories alive, protecting the legacy of the Medal, and promoting the values and ideals upon which our country was founded. It remains the only group chartered by Congress to take on such great responsibilities.

Programs

Character Development Program

The Medal of Honor Character Development Program (CDP) is a free resource which teaches courage,

commitment, integrity, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism to students through educationally grounded lessons

developed by teachers for teachers. These six values are embodied in the Medal of Honor and exemplified in the

actions for which it has been awarded.

The entire Medal of Honor CDP is free to educators. The curriculum includes individual and group activities,

worksheets and extended activity suggestions, and resources such as Medal of Honor citations, live and archived

webinars, and an extensive living history collection.

Veterans Outreach Program

The Veterans Outreach Program is on the frontline, targeting the resiliency and wellness challenges of the

veteran and active-duty military communities. This program connects Medal of Honor Recipients with

organizations in the public and private sector which are tackling these issues. While not trained clinicians,

Recipients use their personal experiences to engage through motivation, inspiration, and providing a positive

example.

service by engaging with public organizations which are

positively impacting their communities, and which value

the characteristics of the Medal of Honor: Courage,

Integrity, Commitment, Sacrifice, Citizenship, and

Patriotism. Recipients carry this message forward as

speakers or participants on the topics of leadership,

character-building, patriotism, legacy, and integrity.
