Definition Flash- is a dual source dual energy, 256 slice, CT scanner with tremendous

clinical and research capabilities, which has revolutionized the CT industry. It performs

high quality CT studies and angiographies at a much lesser radiation doses and contrast

volume. This is the first scanner of its kind in India and amongst the only few in the

world. The Definition Flash Mode completes a CT Coronary Angiography in about 1/3rd

of a second at less than 1mSv of radiation dose.

At Medanta Heart Institute, (Division of Cardiology) we have an integrated healthcare centre with a dedicated team of Cardiac surgeons and cardiologists who work in tandem to provide comprehensive, multidisciplinary care to patients suffering from heart ailments. Our team of doctors, nurses, technicians and other heart experts are there to ensure unparalleled excellence in patient care, education and research.

The Division of Cardiology is determined to provide compassionate, state of the art, proficient care to heart patients at an affordable cost. Our Interventional team is available round the clock to help patients with cardiac emergencies with primary and complex Coronary Angioplasties and Stinting. Percutaneous Valvular interventions including aortic valve replacement need a special mention.

Our dedicated Electrophysiology team has enormous experience in all kinds of electrophysiology studies, radiofrequency ablations, pacemaker and device implantations and resynchronization therapy. Three dimensional cardiac mapping using Carto technique and myocardial scar identification by NOGA enable our electrophysiologists to perform the most complicated RF ablations with ease.

Our Clinical Cardiology team consists of dedicated cardiologists capable to handle any cardiac emergency in the Heart command centre. Besides, early heart disease detection program and community outreach program have been designed to catch the disease before it can harm the individual. BRaIn SuIte is an advanced operating theatre with capability of intra-operative

MR imaging and MR guided surgery. Surgeon can perform a high resolution MRI

during the surgery to assess the degree of tumor removal as well as to avoid normal

The lipotripsy Machine uses an externally-applied, focused, high- intensity

acoustic pulse to break a urinary or kidney stone into small pieces that can more

easily travelthrough the urinary tract and pass out with urine in a few days or weeks.

It is usually an outpatient procedure and takes about an hour to do. Sedatives or

anaesthetics may be used for patient comfort. ESWL is a safe procedure and may be

used on children and on individuals with only one working kidney.

The introduction of VMAT (volumetric arc therapy) on Infinity Linear accelerator- The first in India will reduce the radiation delivery time to 2 minutes even for the most complex Intensity Modulated RadioTherapy (IMRT). The frameless Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) from Elekta is being established for the first time in the country and is capable of treating Lung and Liver tumours in less than 20 minutes.

An Integrated Brachytherapy Unit (IBU) for intra operative and per operative treatments along with prostate seed implants is being commissioned to extend the ultimate conformal radiation for early tumours or as a boost along with external beam treatment.

A protocol based approach for management of Brain tumours, Head and Neck cancers, Breast cancer, Gynaecological cancers, Urological malignancies, Soft tissue sarcomas, Lymphomas, Paediatric tumours, Gastro intestinal and Lung cancer is being established to ensure an international standard of care.

The innovative techniques being introduced include Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT) with X-Ray Volume Imaging(XVI)giving a virtual CT scan on the Linear accelerator in real time. The availability of molecular imaging in the form of PET-CT for fusion with MRI(3.0 Tesla) ,CT Scan(256 slice) and CT –Simulation (32 slice) will reduce the chances of a geographic miss as well as optimize the tumour coverage.

The philosophy of ‘Holistic Care’ and protocol based management will ensure a transparent evaluation of treatment outcomes and will transpire into an academic milieu to build bridges across internationally renowned Health Care Institutions.

While encompassing the overall mission of Medanta, the particular goals of the Department of Medical/Paediatric Oncology and Haemato Oncology are to deliver advanced oncology care in a supportive and compassionate way to all our patients, and to advance the treatment and prevention of cancers through innovative research. Our mission shall be to achieve excellence in clinical and basic research, and cancer treatment through multidisciplinary collaboration with surgical and radiation oncology specialists as well as psychosocial specialists and volunteer faculty.

With greater need for the individual to be treated both as a patient and a person, evidence-based oncology therapeutics shall be the focus of clinical

The Medanta Institute of Liver Transplantation and Regenerative Medicine is Asia’s first of its kind, dedicated Institute offering liver transplantation [LT] and all other levels of treatment for liver and biliary diseases including cancer, both in adults and children.

Medanta’s team has experience of more than 1300 liver transplants and are the pioneers of Liver transplants in India, we are the world’s second largest and the India’s largest and most successful live donor liver transplant [LDLT] program. Medanta performs around 250 LDLT’s every year. Our program also being India’s largest and most successful paediatric liver transplant program with the highest experience in children weighing less than 10 kg. Our Liver Transplant program boasts of one of the world’s highest success rates (95%) and lowest infection rates (<10%) in LT, with a rigorous liver donor safety protocol. An additional layer of safety in testing called nuclear amplification technology (nat) is used to make blood components safer. This is a very

sophisticated technology used by very few blood centres in the country.

Transfusion Medicine Specialists deal with the transfer of blood or blood products from one person (the donor) into another person’s (the recipient’s) bloodstream. Transfusion of your own blood (autologous) is the safest method but requires planning and not all patients are eligible. Directed donor blood allows the patient to receive blood from known donors. Volunteer donor blood is the safest.

The endeavour of the department is to supply safest possible blood components. The safety begins with diligent check of donor’s medical history and physical examination. The tests for HIV 1 & 2, Hepatitis B & C, Malaria and Syphilis are done using best of technology

and methods. There is an additional layer of safety in testing called Nuclear Amplification Technology (NAT). There are few blood centres in the country which use this testing technology. There are advance technologies like Universal Leucodepletion, Irregular Antibody Screen, etc to reduce the chances of adverse reactions to the patient.

We perform therapeutic apheresis procedures in patients suffering from certain neurological disorders like Myasthenia gravis, G B Syndrome, etc. The department is also part of stem cell harvest, their cryopreservation and infusion as part of the stem cell therapy for variety of disorders.

In our Emergency & Trauma facility with 45 beds in emergency & trauma care area, critically ill or injured patients with life-threatening conditions, are immediately taken under the care of a team of specialized emergency doctors and the patient is evaluated, resuscitated and stabilized as per protocols.

The Trauma Centre in Medanta-The Medicity is “Level I,” which means it provides the highest level of specialty expertise and meets strict standards.

There are 2 operating rooms dedicated solely to trauma patients with 24x7 availability of specialists in trauma surgery, orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, surgical critical care,

rehabilitation medicine and emergency medicine to adequately respond and care for the various forms of trauma.

Medanta- The Medicity provides pre-hospital care (road & air evacuation of critically ill patient), following the GOLDEN HOUR concept. The rescue team consists of critical care physician, technician and rescue nurse along with additional specialists if required. Patient evacuation is done by surface ambulance or by air ambulance. The ambulances are fully equipped mobile ICUs with advanced cardiac life support systems. We have successfully carried out several air evacuations from various parts of the country.
