Out of my 60 responses, the majority are female, so I may add a female skew to the genre of my magazine through colours, fonts and images.

The target audience for my magazine will be 16-20 year olds, as the majority of respondents were in the age bracket of 11-20 years old. Also, this age group are most likely to relate to the genre of my music magazine (alternative/rock/indie).

Despite pop being the most preferred music genre, I am still choosing to go with my chosen genre of rock/alternative/indie. This is because it will be easier for me to work with this genre and it’s conventions because they are many existing examples such as Q & NME and also I personally prefer this genre and have an interest in it. Furthermore, the 3 genres combined are a shared majority of the votes, along with Pop & R’n’B.

From these results, I can see that people are drawn to magazines mostly by the free offers and info about concerts and gigs. To make my magazine more appealing, I can add these to it and possibly promote these features on the front cover to let the readers know what is included.

This shows me that the price range of £1.01-£2.00 is the most popular for a magazine and has encouraged me to price my magazine somewhere in this bracket. I was considering pricing my magazine to a similar price anyway, to suit my target audience of teenagers and young adults; these people would not usually have a lot of money so having a reasonably priced magazine would be beneficial.

These were the results from question 6. I bolded the answers that got mentioned more than once. They are all quite mainstream artists/bands, and my magazine isn’t a mainstream genre, but as they are popular, I could include them as small articles just to widen my target audience slightly. Ed Sheeran is bold and in red because he was he most popular answer, he used to be considered alternative and a bit indie before he was mainstream and well known, so if I did include him in my magazine, I could focus the article on his older material to fit it better with my genre.

As online content interests the majority of my sample, I could mention a website in my magazine or on the front cover.

This supports the results to question four, by showing that the majority enjoy going to music events, so I should involve gigs, concerts or festivals in them.

This survey shows what else I could include in my magazine, as small features that could also relate to music and my genre.

My survey has told me that my front cover is the main selling point for my magazine. Despite the contents page and double page spread also being important, the cover will be the first thing that the buyer sees.
