TRANSCRIPT

The genre, horror, is portrayed quite vividly through the colouration of the entire sequence. Black and White connote to old, dead technology and by proxy the “unknown”.

By using mannequins in the title sequence instead of real people the mystery/psychological horror is further perpetuated. Mannequins are also quite commonly perceived as creepy imitations of human beings, this could be foreshadowing the events of the film.

The entire sequence is “frozen”, none of the objects move up until the end at which point a lone creature is focused on with an extreme close up and then the title ends with the creature lunging which is foreshadowing and reinforcing the horror genre and the possible importance of aforementioned creature.

The entire sequence blends ominous background sounds of scraping and echoing with a non diegetic soundtrack which is distorted and hard to make sense of, this puts the viewer into a state of disorientation on a sensory level. This dark atmosphere matches both the narrative and the genre of this film.

The hospital setting with mannequins dressed as nurses alludes to the narrative.

Dismemberment and violence are clearly depicted in the opening sequence which sets a dark violent atmosphere as well as giving the viewer an insight into the possible narrative.

Silent Hill Revelation

The use of neon shapes to spell out the title of the film gives the atmosphere of happiness and positivity. This is complimented by the background music “lights” by Ellie Goulding which is an up beat electronic track.

The simplicity of just showing artistically altered wording gives none of the narrative away directly however this could link to an air of secrecy between characters within the deeper storyline of the film.

Judging by the use of “Rage italics” this film is set in Miami (south beach) and focuses upon the nightlife there, this can be garnered from previous uses of this font which are usually linked to Miami and the party lifestyle popular there.

The black background and use of pink/multi-coloured font gives a slightly hypnotic, if not psychedelic effect, possibly foreshadowing parts of the narrative.

The title “Spring Breakers” gives the deepest insight into both the genre, narrative, atmosphere and characters. Spring break is a holiday often celebrated by students with excess partying, drug and alcohol abuse, independence from parents and inevitably trouble. Therefore all the information the viewer needs is given to them in an ingenious, minimalistic form.
