Since 2000, the Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation has provided more than $4 million in urgent financial assistance to 11,300 family members of children with catastrophic illness. Your contributions go directly to family support while the ASRL endowment covers administrative costs.

This year’s Mother’s Day campaign, For This Mom, focuses on Linda and Dylan. Their family is representative of the hundreds of families that ASRL provides aid to each year.

The Mom & Our Mission

The  Andre  Sobel  River   of   Life  Foundation  was  created   in   the  wake  of   founder  Valerie  Sobel’s  loss   of   her   teenage   son   Andre   from   an  inoperable  brain  tumor.  She  realized  that  it  had  been  a  blessing  that  she  was  able  to  care  for  her  son   and   not   worry   about   finances   and   other  resources.   Upon   discovering   that   many   single  parents  with   critically-­‐ill   children  are   forced   to  chose  between  working  to  provide  basic  needs  and   staying   with   their   terminally   ill   child,   she  created  the   foundation  to   relieve   this  financial  and  emotional  burden.

Buy Groceries for a Family $100

By buying groceries for a sick child’s family for a week, your gift will soften a family's burden and let mom or dad focus on caring for the child with a life threatening illness. Just knowing that children back home are well fed can help a parent cope better during an extremely stressful time.

Pay a Families Utilities for a Month $45

Your gift will pay a month of utilities -- electric, gas, water, phone, cable, cellphone -- for a family whose lives are shattered by the dual tragedies of their child's catastrophic illness and severe financial distress. Your gift gives a family the "breathing room" not to be overwhelmed by unpaid bills, but to focus on treating the sick child and caring for the siblings back home.

Pay Rent for a Family in Need $500

Your generous gift will help a single parent family stay stable and in their home while their child is in treatment for a catastrophic illness. By paying a month's rent, you relieve a family's immediate financial burden and give mom or dad breathing room. Now they can focus on helping their child heal.

When a child is diagnosed with a terminal or catastrophic illness, life changes in an instant. Dad might quit his job to be at the child's hospital bedside in a far away city, while Mom stays at home to care for the patient's young siblings.

The family's finances can quickly shatter, making the most routine household activities -- like paying monthly bills -- increasingly difficult. Within months, the power is threatened to be shut off...and soon enough, the family may face an eviction notice.
