HOW WIEGEL WORKS

INSPECTIONquality is guaranteed because inspection is built into everything we do. Our numerous automated sensor and vision technologies analyze part tolerances across various dimensions and test for defects such as blemishes and dimensional imperfections.

ENGINEERINGWTW engineers teamed with software developers to create the most sophisticated 3D modeling system in order to develop the best designs, ensure manufacturing efficiency, and cut tooling costs.

PROTOTYPINGWTW engineers use robust prototyping practices to prove out part designs and manufacturability.

PRODUCTIONWith our wide range press tonnage capabilities (30 – 450 tons), WTW can tackle high-speed and heavy stamping projects.

TOOLINGAll our tooling is designed and built in-house, cutting lead times and ensuring quality. We can cut the highest precision custom tool components. We also invest in the latest wire EDM technology, a CNC optical profile grinder, and waterjet and CNC machining.

AARON WIEGEL - PRESIDENT

[email protected]

877.943.8665

Aaron Wiegel was born into manufacturing. His grandfather founded Wiegel Tool Works (WTW) in 1941, and the company has lived on through three Wiegel generations, all passionate about manufacturing. Aaron first started working at WTW back in grade school, helping his father with packaging parts. In the following years, Aaron learned the ins and outs of the family business and has now worked in every WTW department — both on the shop floor and in the office.

In pursuit of taking over the family business, Aaron attended Purdue University to study Mechanical Engineering. He later transferred to Northern Illinois University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Technology.

Aaron officially joined WTW in January 2001. He launched his full-time manufacturing career as manager of the CNC machining department. He was later promoted as Production Scheduler, then as Production Director of the stamping division, and shortly thereafter, became the Vice President of the stamping division.

In 2010, Aaron became Co-Owner and President of Wiegel Tool Works. In partnership with his sister Erica and his brother Ryan, Aaron has grown the business, tripling revenues and preparing the company for future growth.

Industry AssociationsAaron is actively involved in the Technology & Manufacturing Association (TMA). He has served on the TMA-BSI Board of

Directors, as Treasurer on the main Board of Directors and is currently serving a term as the Vice Chairman of the TMA. Aaron is also a member of the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA), and the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association (IMA).

Special InterestsPassionate about workforce development, Aaron is an expert source and speaker on the skills gap crisis. WTW has a Department of Labor certified apprenticeship program and an active intern program in conjunction with high schools and colleges. Aaron encourages manufacturers to band together and open up their plants for tours to educators, guidance counselors, students and parents to proactively reshape attitudes about careers in manufacturing.

Speaking EngagementsAaron was the keynote speaker at the Schaumburg Business Association 2016 Manufacturers’ Summit, “A Call to Action! Being Proactive and Creative with Training, Recruitment and Marketing.” He participated in the 2015 Wintrust Bank “Tackling Manufacturing Challenges” panel discussion.

Aaron was a featured panelist at the “Digital Manufacturing and Workforce: Looking at our Local Industry’s Future” event in 2015, co-hosted by the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute and the World Business Chicago 1000 Jobs for Chicagoland Manufacturing campaign.

I n d u s t r y We e k OCTOBER 18, 2016 – INDUSTRYWEEK BEST PLANTS FINALISTS ANNOUNCEDThirteen manufacturing facilities have been named finalists in the 2016 IndustryWeek Best Plants competition, IW’s annual search for and salute to manufacturing excellence across North America. IW congratulates their ongoing efforts to improve their processes, their people and their profitability. These manufacturing plants share several common traits: excellent and improving manufacturing performance metrics, engaged leadership and workforces, and a belief that better performances are still to be had. C ra i n ’s C h i c a g o B u s i n e s s AUGUST 27, 2016 – WHY THIS CHICAGO MANUFACTURER WANTS TO SET UP SHOP IN MEXICOWiegel Tool Works looks like the archetype for all-American manufacturing: The current president’s grandfather founded the company the day before Pearl Harbor was bombed. The founder’s son took over after three tours in Vietnam. And since Aaron Wiegel assumed the helm in 2011, the third-generation company has tripled revenue to $50 million and nearly quintupled payroll. Now Wiegel, 38, really wants to open a factory in Mexico. READ THE ARTICLE >

In order to stand out and be on top, companies need to be highly technical and innovative. That proves why this family-run company is a world leader in manufacturing! world, we don’t just require labor, we require skilled labor...STEM skills are essential to have a good and successful career in manufacturing. C ra i n ’s C h i c a g o B u s i n e s s APRIL 23, 2016 – TAKING A RISK ON A ROBOT…not every manufacturer is willing to do what Aaron Wiegel, president of Wiegel Tool Works, did. His Wood Dale-based company does a lot of work for the auto industry, and in 2006, he paid $2.2 million for a 450-ton press without knowing precisely how he’d use it. In real estate terms, that’s akin to building property on speculation, without tenants lined up. It’s risky. Yet Wiegel says he had enough of a read on the market to make the bet, which paid off. But failure would not have sunk the firm. “We’ve always made sure we had more assets to debt,” he says. READ THE ARTICLE >

M e t a l Fo r m i n g M a g a z i n e MARCH 2016 – TRANSPARENCY: A NEW AGE IN MANUFACTURINGIn this age of automated shopfloor-data collection and delivery, there’s no reason for metalforming-plant managers to not know exactly what’s going on at their production lines—anytime, anywhere. The ability to collect real-time statistics from equipment allows metalformers to leverage modernized information-technology systems as the foundation of a data-quality program. Then, they can use the collected data to help govern the dozens of critical decisions made by shop managers, day in and day out, to ensure the optimization of overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)…. Case in point: The data-quality program in place at precision metal stamper and tool-and-die shop Wiegel Tool Works (WTW), in Wood Dale, IL.READ THE ARTICLE >

Its continuous growth has been accompanied by a lot of change; but there are a lot of traditions around the shop too, most notably, the family that’s guided the company since 1941. Another tradition—for nearly 40 years now—is the EDM technology the company has relied on to cut its high-precision stamping tools.READ THE ARTICLE >

M e t a l Fo r m i n g M a g a z i n eMARCH 2012 – ROBOTIC EDM AND HARD MILLING PROMOTE PRESSDie complexity and size, and the quest for prolonged life of die components, are some of the issues keeping the toolroom at Wiegel Tool Works, Wood Dale, IL, on its toes these days. All the while, the company’s pressroom continues to require its dies to run at faster speeds and provide a higher degree of accuracy. With the acquisition in 2006 of a new 450-ton variable-stroke press—with a 120-in.-long bed—the firm now finds itself quoting numerous projects requiring more complex and larger dies.READ THE ARTCLE >
