Peer & Patient Praise

The following quotations are internal and

external commendations submitted by

both Medic employees and patients.

Medic employees touch so many lives and

our patients are truly appreciative of the

care we provide. Everyone at Medic plays

a role in providing an excellent patient

experience and it is evident by the

commendations that are received. Keep

up the excellent work!

It has proven to be a complete honor and privilege to work with this talented group of

EMTs. In the two years I have been in the office, we have not encountered a better

Academy…the group has been very welcoming and polite as well. We talk about

employee standards and AIDET, this group exemplifies the attitude, passion and

personality we envision for all of our employees. — (Peer Praise)

[Patient] wanted to pass along a thank you to the woman that stayed on the phone with

her until help arrived, because she was so kind and patient, and she was very scared and

grateful to have someone stay on the line. — (Patient Praise)

For continuing to put forth their best efforts, despite having to adjust to the new

changes; while shorthanded. These ladies and gentlemen have showed that when the test

of times has come they are ready for whatever is thrown their way. They have not only

shown dedication to their jobs, but also have shown the Agency that they are willing to

work hard to complete difficult task . — (Peer Praise)

The crew initiated transport rapidly and their treatment was very aggressive. Through

their efforts they were able to deliver the patient alive and in a more stable condition

than he was on the scene. After follow up with the hospital, the patient is still alive and

suspected to survive. I am confident that this is due to the quick thinking and critical

interventions that this crew provided to the patient. They are to be commended for a

job well done. — (Peer Praise)

As a direct result of the current nationwide medication shortage, the Agency’s

limited stock of 800 mg Dopamine vials will soon be exhausted. In response,

different packaging of Dopamine will begin showing up on the units within the

coming days.

The new 400 mg Dopamine will be packaged as two – 400 mg vials in a re-

sealable Ziploc bag, marked with a neon pink label, identifying the vials as 400 mg.

The new Dopamine vials have a green lid whereas the current 800 mg vials have a yellow lid.

Crews are reminded that the correct Dopamine concentration is still 800 mg/500 mL. Please be sure to

mix both 400 mg vials into a 500 ml bag of NaCl to give the same concentration that the current 800 mg

vials provide. Your dosing and drip rates will remain unchanged. The adjusted Dopamine vials will soon appear in the

restock box as well as inside the green equipment bags.

Please be cognizant of this change and ensure you have the correct vials. Please contact a member of Medical Services or

an Operations Supervisor if you have any questions about the 400 mg Dopamine vials.

A new feature has been added to the Service Desk Ticket System to address service-related needs for Philips Cardiac

Monitors. The addition of work tickets for the Philips Cardiac Monitors allows the IT department to better diagnose

problems and/or issues that may arise and process repairs in a timely, systematic manner.

Field crews are advised to submit a work ticket for any problems they experience with the monitors by

logging onto the Service Desk Ticketing system from the computers located in the Employee Crew Lounge.

Please look for the icon to the left on the desktop screen to access the Service Desk Ticketing System.

Enter your username, password , select Medic from the Log on to

dropdown menu and click Login

Click on New Incident in the upper left portion of the home screen

Under the Change Template section, please select Support

Services and provide a brief description of the Philips issue or

problem. Please be sure to complete all required fields and click on

the Add request button to submit.

Please contact Bryan Edwards at [email protected] or Steve

Vandeventer at [email protected] if you have questions about entering in a Service Desk Ticket for the Philips monitors.

Medic is eagerly preparing for this year’s EMS Week, which will occur the week of

May 20th – May 24th. The Agency has another packed week lined up to help

celebrate the hard work and dedication of Medic’s employees.

Over the last three years, follow up surveys have been collected to gather

employee feedback related to Medic’s EMS Week activities. One of the most

consistent pieces of feedback has been a desire to see healthier menu options at

the breakfast and cookout. We heard you and couldn’t agree more. We are

excited to announce that you will see this and other changes to the week’s

activities, all as a direct result of your feedback:

Medic’s Ice Cream Social event will feature an assortment of frozen yogurt

flavors and fresh fruit toppings from Pinkberry.

The EMS Week Cookout has been revamped as Medic Family Fun Day.

The menu for Medic’s Family Fun Day will feature an array of healthy food options including a taco/tortilla bar with an

assortment of meat, vegetable and side item selections.

Many new games and activities will be found in the Medic Arcade.

The Medic Dodgeball Tournament has been added as the final EMS Week closeout activity for Friday, May 24th (please

be sure to visit the Extranet for rules and to register your team in the tournament).

Medic is a growing Agency that boasts more than 500 employees. As we grow, the cost of putting on EMS Week each

year follows suit. As a county agency it is imperative that we manage our resources very wisely. It is for this reason that

we ask each of you to limit participation in the Medic Family Fun Day to your immediate family members only

(i.e., significant other, children). There will be a sign in sheet at the food tent so we can track attendance; we appreciate

everyone adhering to this request.

The Lead Team would like to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication to the community we serve. We hope

you will take advantage of everything that has been pulled together to make this year’s EMS Week one of the best yet.

Do you know an employee who goes above and beyond the duties of their position at Medic? Do you know someone who

has a positive attitude about their job and loves being a member of this Agency?

Nominations will be accepted for employees from across the Agency that represent what it means to be an Unsung Hero.

Nominees should consist of those employees who lift up their peers and coworkers, love working for Medic and their

position, are excited to do their work and are very patient/community driven. The Unsung Hero is a humble employee who

leads by example; a silent leader. Nominees can be from any department across the entire Agency.

The Quarterly Employee Satisfaction Survey launched, May 1st, 2013.

Half of the Agency received the electronic survey via their Medic email account

from our survey administrator. Please check your email to see if you have

received an email correspondence from John Sadlemyer at PRC (our survey

administrator).

Employees can take the survey from any computer, anywhere. You do not need

to access a Medic computer at Post 100, you can simply take the survey from

your personal computer. The survey takes approximately 5-10 minutes to

complete and it is COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS.

Your feedback is extremely important and it will help shape future improvements at Medic. Make sure your voice is

heard! If you have any questions, please contact Deputy Directory Jeff Keith at [email protected].

The City of Charlotte is continuing in its efforts to widen Statesville Road from two lanes to

four. Employees are asked to make note of the following important changes that will affect

access to Building #1 and Building #2 of Post 100:

Access to Hutchinson McDonald Road from Statesville Road will be closed

within a month for approximately one month (exact start date to be announced soon).

Shortly after the close of Hutchinson McDonald, front entrances and exits to Post 100 will

be closed but not at the same time.

Construction will also take place toward the Learning & Development end of Post 100 within the next 30 days (exact

start date to be announced soon). As a result, employees will lose the ability to park near this end of Post 100. The final

result of the construction process will be an additional entrance onto Hutchinson McDonald Road from Post 100.

No plans for water/electrical/sewer interruptions have been communicated at this time.

Please be on the lookout for exact construction start dates for Post 100 and Hutchinson McDonald Road. Contact

Operations Manager Bryan Edwards at [email protected] for questions about the ongoing Statesville Road Widening

Project.
