CLA 23 Child Nursing Dollin natural size.The doll, with a length of 90 cm and weighting 6 kg,corresponds to a small childapproximately 3 years old.This realistic training doll of-fers the facility for numerousnursing procedures for training paediatric nurses.
This doll, made of plastic, incorporates durable, newstyle joint mechanisms whichpermit most natural move-ments. As a result trainingand nursing procedures canbe carried out in most prac-tical situations. This smallchild phantom is available as both a female and malemodel because of the inter-changeable chest and abdo-minal wall. The abdominalwalls incorporate applicationpoints for S.C. injections andtreatment of wounds (femaleabdominal wall - OP woundafter appendectomy, maleabdominal wall - wound treatment after hernia). Upper arms and upper thighs are provided with injection pads. The right armcan be exchanged for an I.V.injection arm. The abdominal walls areequipped with - anus-praeter- openings for PEG and

CLA 8/58Intubation Phantom ofNew-Born BabyWith the co-operation ofProf. Dr. Chr. Fusch, we havedeveloped a life-size modelfor orotracheal and naso-tracheal intubation. In addition to a moveable lower jaw, great importancehas been placed on faithfullycopying the nasal, oral andpharyngeal cavities.
To practise nasotrachealintubation, a tube is carefullyintroduced into the nostriland carefully pushed alongthe inferior meatus and theback wall of the throat to the7cm mark, to ensure that thepoint of the tube stops short-ly before the epiglottis. With-out any pressure being ex-terted on the upper jaw, thebase of the tongue is gentlyraised using a laryngoscopespatula held in the left hand,until the entrance to the oes-ophagus and the glottis arevisible. Holding the Magillforceps in the right hand, the point of the tube is thentaken and inserted approxi-mately 1.5cm into the trachea via the glottis.
We recommend that to prevent the tube from accidentally slipping, thethumb and index finger ofthe left hand hold the tube atthe nasal vestibule, and theremaining fingers and palmof the hand are placed on theleft side of the temple and forehead of the new-bornbaby. The tube can then beattached to the skin as usual(e.g. using adhesive tape).
The tube can be introducedthrough the mouth directlyinto the trachea, when thetrachea is visible for orotracheal intubation.

The number of pediatricbronchoscopy proceduresgrew steadily in the 1990s,leading to increased demandfor a child intubation manne-quin. Four years of collabora-tion between CLA and Professor Nakhosteen resulted in the final proto-type, Broncho Junior.
New designs and materialshad to be conceived and developed for constructionof upper airway anatomy. Theguiding principle was tomeet requirements for tea-ching rigid and f lexiblebronchocopy, manipulatinginstruments within the confi-nes of pediatric anatomy, and using the laryngoscopeand f lexible fiberoptic bronchoscope (FFB) as intubation aids.
The result of this undertakingis Broncho Junior, a multi-functional trainer with normalhead movement, nasal passa-ges wide enough to admit a4.5 mm naso-tracheal tube,tracheo-bronchial anatomywith tracheal lumen able toaccommodate a 5 mm rigidbronchoscope, and acousticalmembrances in the thoracicwalls for auscultation. For oral intubation the vocal cords can be visualized laryn-goscopically.
Broncho Junior is the first dedicated intubation trainerdesigned specifically for pediatric bronchology. It isessential for teaching the eyeto recognize upper airwayanatomy, and the hand to manoeuvre thin FFBs and rigid tubes and instruments in a confined space. Its usecan be enhanced by following recommendations givenbelow.

Henche,natural size, in synthetic material.The model is made of asmooth cutaneous and muscular cover in which thebones of the knee-joint areembedded. The anterior outer cover has four accesspoints to the articular internal area, two lateral, one central and one medialopening. Moreover the arthroscopy model has one lateral and one medial accessto the posterior recess. TheHoffa's fat body is shown and can be taken off and replaced by an adhesivecatch. The internal and ex-ternal menisci are anchoredby plug-in threads and canbe easily exchanged and replaced. The ligamentousapparatus i.e. the lateral ligaments and the cruciate ligaments are representednearly true-to-nature. Easyexchange of the ligaments is possible because of theprovided screw and plug-injoints. The patellar ligamentis shown and the patella canbe exchanged. After removalof the cutaneous-muscularcovers one can use the bones with the ligaments as a functional knee-jointmodel. The mounting sup-port at the thigh is suitablefor mounting in an operationvice. Removing the skin and the deltoid muscle reveals a complete view of the bone structure.
For better orientation in the spatial representation, thehumeral head together withthe glenoid cavity can be removed from the model.
The transparent capsule ofthe joint covers the humerusand the glenoid cavity andmay be detached separately.
